Chauncey last night: “Its hard to be hard on defense when youre running so fast” Riiiiiight…

  • Kevin Wilson Posted: Nov.14 at 11:47 am
That’s an excellent story. Big ups to Chauncey for opening up, and to the columnist who cared enough to see how Chauncey was doing.

Those guys played together for 6 years, which is unheard of in the era of free agency. They are family and stick together. They also just happen to play for my favorite team (or did).

  • J.Deneer Posted: Nov.14 at 12:25 pm
Great read. Feel for the guy.

    truer words never spoken:
We know this much: The same fans who cheered Iverson’s arrival would have ripped Billups for leaving. The media probably would have piled on, too. In the hypocritical world of modern sports, we expect loyalty from athletes but not from teams.

sorry forgot to quote it, that’s from the story. good read indeed.

  • Allenp Posted: Nov.14 at 1:03 pm
    I read this earlier.
Chauncey seems really salty at Joe Dumars. I wonder how Rip feels about that extension. There is a weird dynmaic on that team. Tayshaun is the only guy who goes all out all game long. The rest of them can coast a little. They also need to get more aggressive about rebounding from the guard spots.

  • sjeezy Posted: Nov.14 at 3:21 pm
no more big shot billups and rip anymore, really a great era in pistons basksetball, not hatin on ai, but character wise, he cant lead that team to a championship in one year, big ups to bill”ups” good luck in denver.

  • memyselfand9 Posted: Nov.14 at 4:13 pm
it rubs me the wrong way that AI is wearing the 1. poor choice imo.
chauncey most be really pissed about that.

  • Z Posted: Nov.14 at 4:33 pm
    That was some real talk.

  • Pro Posted: Nov.14 at 4:33 pm
Nothing but respect for Chauncey. He’s handled the situation with real class IMO

  • Juscheckin Posted: Nov.14 at 5:16 pm
Chauncy wasnt going to lead that Detroit team to a Championship this year either, so might as well shake things up…also, Stucky was going to give up his #3 for AI but the league said they have to wait for the end of the season to do that (because the league is greedy as hell and wants to make money), why Iverson chose #1..I dont know..but I also dont see it as such a big deal as some are trying to make it. No one had a problem with Stucky (a rookie) taking Ben Wallace #3 (and Ben had just as much to do with that Championship as everyone else) so I dont see why some fans would be butt hurt behing Iverson wearing Chauncys number…Iverson could be wearing it out of respect for Chauncy and the fact that Chauncy had to be traded for him in order to give him a shot to contend. So people dont know why Iversons wearing that number, quit hatin’ on that dude. Good luck to him and Chauncy.

Wow, the Piston guys in that hotel room have me crying over that story. Makes me instantly think of this:
    http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=JkQdKsqD0zo
(hope someone understands some german coz its awesome) Btw, I really wonder how can a classy guy like AI do something like that? Take No. 1 and play in it the very first nicht? Very strange. Thats something you just dont do. Never thought AI would disrespect like that.

  • Zee! Posted: Nov.14 at 6:29 pm
This article goes to show you that all pro sports are is a business…and that Joe Dumars is a cold, calculating mofo.

  • Double R Posted: Nov.14 at 6:41 pm
They could have given Iverson another number couldn’t they?

  • The Promise Posted: Nov.14 at 6:45 pm
We appreciate everthing you did for the Pistons franchise. It was a great run. Peace out Chauncey…

  • Yassi Posted: Nov.15 at 3:52 am
Uppps, make that *night* not *nicht*

  • Yassi Posted: Nov.15 at 3:54 am
@DoubleR: AI could have said something like: I dont want the #1 I take x or y. I really cant understand why AI would do that…… :?:

  • Ohpityme Posted: Nov.15 at 5:35 am
Yeah it seems pretty petty that they’d give AI the #1 jersey.
The rest(being traded, contract extensions etc) can be seen as ‘just business’ but I think its pretty shameful that they gave his jersey number away just like that.
Anyway Billups handled that with interview with class and without any bitterness.

  • JBreeze Posted: Nov.15 at 10:45 am
My god, get over the jersey number ya’ll. Like I said people dont know why Iverson is wearing #1, he could be wearing it to honar Chauncy and represent..nobody knows. The league wouldnt let Stucky give Iverson #3 untill the end of the season (they have a ton of rules behind it)..I thought it was strange at first that Iverson is wearing #1 too, but then I thought there has to be a reason behind it because of who Iverson is im sure he wouldnt wear it out of disrespect for Chauncy.

  • Candice Posted: Nov.15 at 9:06 pm
I don’t think Chauncey cares. In the past he has said that AI is one of the player’s he want’s to see win a ring. Anyway, during the press conference it looked like AI was just as shock as everyone else there.

  • jaymes Posted: Nov.16 at 6:41 pm
Surely ya’ll expected someone to leave Detroit this season. Joe D has sacked three winning coaches in the last few years, it was only a matter of time before he started shedding players….

  • Randy Brown Posted: Nov.17 at 9:27 am
Joe D’s ‘problem’ is that he already has/had a nice-guy image, so when he does something like this it seems cold and calculating. There’s plenty of exec’s who do worse and nobody bothers about the level of decency involved

  • Randy Brown Posted: Nov.17 at 9:30 am
And when Ivey’s contract is gone, Detroit will sign Lebron, Dwyane, Kobe, Bosh, Amare, Luc Longley and Billy Hoyle

  • Roxanne Posted: Nov.17 at 9:34 am
Great article. It was good to hear Chauncey’s side of it. I’m a Cleveland Cavaliers fan, so the Pistons are our rivals. Yet, I’ve always loved Chauncy Billups. I was sorry to hear he wouldn’t get to retire from the team he meant so much to.

  • Breeze Posted: Nov.17 at 10:31 am
yeah out of all player they could have let loose i would have kept him..hes the controller of the offense.

  • Dacre Posted: Nov.17 at 9:40 pm
