Celtics Reportedly Give Doc Rivers a New Deal

by Marcel Mutoni

Convincingly beat your historical arch nemesis in the championship round – as an underdog, no less – and you should be rewarded. The Celtics seem to agree with that notion; they’ve reportedly inked head coach Doc Rivers for a few more years.

From Yahoo! Sports:

The contract has not been signed, but Celtics officials and Rivers’ agent, Lonnie Cooper, are in the process of finishing up the paperwork, the source said.

When reached by text message later Tuesday, Rivers confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that he had recently come to terms but didn’t want to make “a big deal about it.”

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, a man who knows things, the deal goes through the 2010-2011 season.

Not bad at all for a guy who just two years ago, an entire fanbase was demanding be given his walking papers. Funny what can happen to your career prospects when two Hall of Fame talents (and Eddie House!) suddenly fall into your lap.
