RJ Doesn’t Like the Nets’ Chances Going Forward
Richard Jefferson had his introductory press conference as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks yesterday, and on top of saying of all the right things about his new squad, RJ had a parting message for his old one. In short: Good luck. You’re going to need it.
When pressed about his feelings on the trade, Jefferson insisted that he’s excited to play in Milwaukee, and said he’s in a much better place now. From the Bucks’ official site:
After calming down and evaluating I looked at the opportunity here. An opportunity to get back to the playoffs and I really don’t think the Nets are going to be headed there in the next couple years. They’ve voiced that with some of the moves they’ve made.
[…]
This is obviously a great situation and I don’t know that I’d want to be in New Jersey given what they’re going to be doing up until 2010 and the move to Brooklyn. I don’t know if that’s a situation that any player would want to be in. Knowing that there’s going to be that transition phase.
The Nets, as you probably noticed, did not make the postseason last year. After having just traded away their leading scorer from the previous season (mere months after getting rid of their franchise player), there is no reason to believe that things will be any different in 2008-2009.
If this LeBron-to-Brooklyn scheme doesn’t work out, someone is going to have a lot of ’splainin’ to do.

Cheryl says:
Just stopped by to say don’t sleep on New Jersey. They could surprise like New Orleans did last year. Now, now, I’m not comparing Devin to Chris, but this team’s got some real talent (in fact, Vince could be the odd man out)and Boston may have a bit of a downer next season (championship hangover–Heat anyone?) and allow NJ to sneak in. Okay, I’ve said my piece, now back to work!
Jul.8 at 1:29 pm
Eboy says:
Cheryl must be working at a sports bar today and drinking for the fu*k of it! What real talent is on this squad? Their CDR pickup is the best thing they’ve got going for them.
Jul.8 at 1:34 pm
Teddy-the-Bear says:
First. And not to mention ^^^^^^^^ that the Nets might actually not even play CDR at all, which pretty sad… The only other players that have potential to do good in the future are Yi and Harris. When LeBron James comes to Brooklyn, they need to get rid of Carter and play CDR more at the 2.
Jul.8 at 1:35 pm
WhaHuh says:
I think its a fair assesment, Yi is going to be a sophmore coming off an average 1st year. I (kinda) feel sorry for Vince because he is essentially a “stop-gap” superstar until LeBron/2010 comes.
Jul.8 at 1:36 pm
H to the izzo says:
I think CDR’s abilities are being over-estimated,he’s not close to even being a starter yet.
Jul.8 at 1:40 pm
Eboy says:
Yeah but, izzo, he’s got potential. Yi is what he is, a soft 4, playing out of position. Devin’s allright, but he’s not a game changing/season changing point guard, especially with this group. Vince is good for 20-24 pts per game, but the rest of the sh*t he DOESN’T do is what the focus should be. They should be better, but they aren’t going to smell playoffs for a couple of seasons.

Jdub says:
The Nets are rebuilding I think in 2 years when they get Lebron with B lopez yi dharris theyll be good
Jul.8 at 1:50 pm
Buffalo Brave says:
LOL @ the nets not having talent on this roster. They can run Marcus Williams (who no one seems to remember is on this team and a BALLER) and Devin in the back court together. Thats alot of speed. They have size and range with their bigs You guys are tripping, the nets will be fine. But they are NOT getting Lebron, i wish you people would stop the madness
Jul.8 at 1:51 pm
Moose says:
Jdub, dont forget that CDR might be in there at some point . . . but i agree
Jul.8 at 2:07 pm
Nique says:
Yall kill me. Yea there’s no excuse for them mising the playoff, there roster is to good but ya’ll talkin like they the Knicks and Carter’s a bum. Vince still got it, look at his numbers. I’m tired of people saying the same thing about him. Oh he’s old and doesn’t dunk, he takes to many jumpers, he doesn’t play with heart…He had to do everything from scoring boards, and dimes for his team. I can only hope he prove a lot of heads wrong.
Jul.8 at 2:10 pm
Mo Charlo says:
No. The Nets will fade into obscurity, and nobody will even remember that Robin Lopez ever had a brother.
Jul.8 at 2:17 pm
Tommy Patron says:
Yeah, Wince is gonna go all out next year, because his career has been BUILT on hard work and sticking it out in less than favorable conditions.
Jul.8 at 2:19 pm

Y’all are wrong, and no I’m not drinking the kool-aid. Let’s re-visit this in January.
Jul.8 at 2:23 pm
RV says:
both the bucks and nets have some good talent, but the last few years that hasn’t meant much and i’m not sure it will soon. they definitely can make some noise if they click, both have tough coaches as well. Mo will/Redd(Mason)/RJ(Alexander)/villanueva/Bogut…..Harris (williams)/Carter(CDR)/nachbar?/yi/Lopez…on paper the Bucks are obviously better and have a playoff team
Jul.8 at 2:25 pm
RV says:
Cheryl, NJ is extremely young and the 4 and 5 and even at the 1, the 3 spot is shaky and Boki might split. i don’t think they’ll be surprising anyone next year like the Hornets. they might sneak inton one of the last playoff spots, but in the east that’s not a surprise.

TADOne says:
Ya’ll must have forgot about Krstic. He will be back from injury and is a pretty good 5 when healthy. Yi actually played well in limited minutes last season with the Bucks. The Nets weren’t the only team who wanted Harris. He will be good. Carter is still good regardless of what anyone wants to say about his heart. Bobby Simmons can play. Oh, and they also have a kid named Sean Williams they drafted last year who I heard has a little bit of talent. Lopez won’t even smell the floor. Yes, I think they could be a sleeper team.
Jul.8 at 2:49 pm
Eboy says:
Seems like TAD’s getting ready for the impending dissapointing Pistons turn and getting ready to prime the pump of the Nets incredible core of greatness.
Jul.8 at 2:50 pm
Rasheedionics says:
Like it or not, Nets are going to be irrelevant for next couple of years as they obviously going the rebuilding route. Yea, they may surprise people and actually win 30 games which is good enough to make playoffs in the East. So what? They’re still not going anywhere unless they trade their entire team for KG.

B. Long says:
I think alot of people are under estimating Dash. He was solid in Dallas especially at penitration and defensively and alot of people kinda forgot about him because of his late season injuries. Mavs fans will be kicking themselves next year. Bet on it.
Jul.8 at 3:08 pm
B. Long says:
I just refered to Maverick fans like they still exsist. Silly me. We all know they leaped off that dead horse bandwagon about 2 playoff series ago.
Jul.8 at 3:41 pm
Dr. J-Water says:
Jefferson is going to be solid for the Bucks. They have a lot of pieces now, if they can mesh well as a team they should be a solid threat for the post season in the East next year.
Jul.8 at 3:46 pm
RV says:
Tad, no one is forgetting about those guys, but like i mentioned, they’re young guys, especially Sean and Yi, and even devin is still having his problems, simmons and Krstic need to get healthy. Playoffs is possible, but again that’s not such a great accomplishment in the east and they’re definitely not going to contend for the conference ’ship.
Jul.8 at 3:58 pm
calderon8 says:
who said the nets will get le bron in 2010??is this a rumour??
Jul.8 at 3:59 pm
TADOne says:
RV: I’m quite sure I never said they would contend for any kind of ’ship, but I do think they can be a sleeper team. Eboy: You must still be on your Beasley high.
Jul.8 at 4:07 pm
Eboy says:
Actually, TAD, Beasley is 0-10 in the summer league game today. Not thrilled, though the “superintendant” is ballin’ for real.
Jul.8 at 4:19 pm
TADOne says:
Again, it is summer league. All this really weeds out is the players who CAN’T play. Teams already have a good indication of who can, but it is nice to let them get in some early work. Chalmers is looking like he could be a steal for your team.
Jul.8 at 4:34 pm
RV says:
Tad: that was just my own comment, i just wanted to point out in the East you’re either contending or you’re not, the teams that are not can be in in the playoffs one year and out the next, so them simply making it doesn’t mean much

Neither team’s making the ‘Offs, not in the new rough and tumble East,anyways..The Bucks are a bit of a head scratcher though..They got the best 2nd and 3rd options in the Lig in RJ and Bogut..thing is will Michael Redd finally step up and earn his Franchise player salary? For all the sh*t that Wince takes,he ain’t got nothin on Redd when it comes to “Failure-to-lead-a-team-when-being-paid-like-the-mothereffing-leader” category..

Jul.8 at 5:05 pm
People's Princess says:
Krstic’s legit and he’s gonna be great late round sleeper pickup for fantasy teams, but it’s not gonna be enough for the Nets. They lack a reliable second option on O and Sean Williams better cut down on fouling if he wants to stay on court for more than 15 mins. They are sub par defensively at the 2,3 and 4/5 depending on whom Krstic guards.Lots of growing pains ahead for these Nets, but they’ve got a solid core of young bigs in Boone,Lopez,Williams and Krstic. While none of them will become a franchise cornerstone, their games complement one another pretty well.

Jul.8 at 5:39 pm
BETCATS says:
yes, one David Lee would do. Also, if we resign Boykins or bring the McGinnis back then we would have a great core of guys. Felton is going to try too hard because he sees DJ as a threat not a help. MJ is hellbent on destroying the team. If they trade Wallace or Richardson for anything short of LeBron or D-Wade then my fanhood to the Cats is done.

Gerard Himself says:
First of all, I miss RJ. Second: there are some rumors the Nets are trying to get Nocioni. If they do, I like our chances. Well, to at least have a winning record and get back the playoffs. We need his points, but as of now, Only Carter and Harris are capable of scoring 20 points. We need a guy like Nocioni: can score a little, good defender and rebounder, and a tough guy.
Jul.8 at 8:34 pm
d.Y. says:
I love the convo BETcats and PP just had. Oh and the nets won’t make the playoffs. CDR starts 0 games in the next year.
Jul.8 at 9:05 pm
RV says:
Tad, it may be more balanced, but you still have only 2 or 3 teams with a shot at a finals appearance and the rest are just fighting for playoff seeding, so whether you’re the 8th seed or 5th, you’re still not going anywhere.
Jul.8 at 9:11 pm
RV says:
and are y’all forgetting only 5 games separated the 8th seed and 12th spot? I dont think its possible to count the improved Bucks out compltetely, I’m only counting the Nets out because they actually got worse, their potential increased though.

Bucks seem to have a good enough team to make the playoffs easily, but they do lack the one player that could take over constantly at the end. Really good complementary pieces, but not a true franchise player (Redd = Glen Rice).

Rob says:
Vince Carter needs this, From what I can see Carter isn’t to good playing on a team with more than one legitimate scoring option, he plays better when surrounded with role players as he can take charge. Lie after the JKidd trade carter stepped up and took the reigns of the team. I hope he shows us some vintage Vinsanity next year.
