Damn straight. Good veteran shooter. Nice pick up for the Rockets. Does this mean Luther Head is dunzo? Is there any truth to the Tmac-to-the-Pistons rumor that 5mooth mentioned earlier?

How about, to echo izzo, “there is no way he can contribute enough” period. He needs to be on a contender to utilize his skills to the best of their limited ability. The Spurs were a perfect location for him. coming off the bench in boston would have been a great move too. Houston, with the possibiltiy of the core being disbanded is just a shotty move for a dude at the end of his career who can contribute but for the right system.
Eboy says:
In turn, I would say it’s a better move for the Rockets than it is for Barry.

I guess they’re thinking bringing in Brent Barry would open up room for Yao but I just don’t see the logic in this move. I’m struggling to see how Brent HELPS the team, is all. It’s not a bad move for the Rockets, but Brent could have had far more value elsewhere (Celtics, new-Phoniex style of play, Pistons, etc.)

Rockets needed a bigger guard Luther Head is terrible and Barry brings a bigger guard who can play the 1,2,3 for the rockets off the bench. Shot 42.9 percent from downtown. They added another great locker room presence and a two time nba champ. Excellent addition for the Rockets. Imagine Barry , Battier and Tmac as your backcourt. Smallest guy would be Barry at 6′7″ All three can shoot the 3 while Yao goes to work and Dorsey , Landry, Scola do the hustle work.

RV says:
A lot of players could have been better elsewhere, you can pretty much say the same thing for every single free agent signing every year…this makes sense for barry because 1)no one else paid him this much 2) he wont be asked to do anything he can’t do 3) he gets to be a rockets like his pops and brother 4)there’s something about Houston that players enjoy, especially as their last stop. As for houston…you can never have enough CONSISTENT shooters when you have tmac and Yao on your team, period. Head, Jackson, Francis, Brooks, Rafer, hell even Tmac, aren’t consistent enough from long distance. It definitely will open up the inside for Yao and Scola some more and he’s still a very good passer, which is key in Adelman’s offense. He’s pretty much playing the same role Jon barry played a few yrs ago and he fit very well.

RV says:
and Eboy, where did u get the core might be disbanded? They have absolutely no plans to disband the core, unless it was a move that was a no brainer, meaning it would keep them as contenders and the role players would fit right in, so it wouldn’t be a waste for Barry.

I hate it when people compare Bones to his father, even on a team-level comparison. Rick Barry is perhaps the most underrated player of all time, a top-15 level talent and easily in the top five best small forwards of all time. Brent Barry was a decent dunker who three years and then became a guy who could occassionally hit a three pointer. Horray.

Jukai, rick barry was also a pretty good free throw shooter . . .
B. Long says:
A 43yr. old Geriatric? That’s EXACTLY what the NBA’s most injury plagued team needs. Maybe they can sign Allan Houston, Darius Miles, and Shaun Livingston too.

You said he could play on the same team his father and brother did. I know it wasn’t actually a comparison, but I like to pretend Rick Barry and Brent Barry aren’t related.

RV, the core of the Rockets is Yao and T-Mac correct? If they decide to move T-Mac for whatever Detroit would give up hypothetically,as the rumors have stated, their core would be different and not neccessarily as cohesive, no?

Jukai, what is even weirder is that Rick and Jon both played 2 yrs for Houston, now Brent signed a 2 yr deal…i’m waiting for Scooter to dust his sneakers off..

Eboy, I wasnt sure if you were refering to that rumor…yes it would change, but there doesn’t seem to be any truth to it. Barry received calls from Morey, Yao, tmac, and the team owner, so i think they all are on the same page and know what roles will be played and who will be on the roster for sure.
