Two weeks ago, SLAM was in Portland, Oregon to check out the “pilot” game for the newly proposed 3-on-3 professional basketball league, the 3BA. Besides us, Shawn Kemp, AC Green, Dan Dickau and Jerome Kersey came through to check it out. While the 3BA isn’t a league yet, it’s certainly working to change the game.
The game is played on a smaller court and Kevin Lubahn, who created the idea for the league a decade ago, designed the game to eliminate power forwards and centers who slow the game down. This opens up the court for quicker, more athletic players to do their thing. The four 11 minute quarters really take a lot out of players who are forced to play at a jet-like pace. Former NBA player Maurice Lucas’ son David had a big game and Seattle unknown Jamaal Miller scored 63 points to lead his team to victory.
