Worthy of Your Attention
Tonight’s game is obviously a biggie. Both teams will be playing with a heightened sense of desperation - the Lakers because they simply cannot afford to fall into a 3-1 hole; the Celtics because the last thing they need is a tied series with Game Five in Staples - and we have all the makings of a classic game.
Both teams have figured each other out by now, and there’s no longer any room for excuses (jet lag, for instance). It’s time to see who truly deserves to win this thing.
I’m not emotionally prepared to discuss how disappointed (nay, infuriated) I am in Lamar Odom’s play thus far in the series, but for the good of everyone, let’s just hope he comes through tonight. Same goes to you, Pau. The fate of the series is in your hands.
I expect KG and Pierce to play a lot better in Game Four, and if Ray Allen keeps up the torrid shooting, it could be lights out for the Lakeshow.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must rush out of here and make it to the Staples Center before the traffic swallows me up.

Boston by 7 tonight. Pau will play the same, Sasha not as good, LO a little better while KG and Pierce will be in full effect. Watchout Lakers!

ciolkstar says:
If Pierce scores 25+ and Ray Allen doesn’t completely disappear, The C’s will be a lock to win.
Jun.12 at 3:21 pm
ciolkstar says:
Has anyone ever considered that the expansive talent/potential of Odom has been more of a hinderence than a help to his game? I mean if he focused on defense, rebounding, and interior scoring he’d be such a better more consistent player in the L. But no, he can handle the ball so he should be trying to cross over James Posey and shooting fadeaways just because he can.

tadone just said the spurs are gonna win by 6

What Tad said.
Jun.12 at 3:24 pm
B. Long says:
@ciolkstar: Thats actually a good point about him over handling the ball at times but if you think Lamar doesn’t focus on rebounding consistently then you need to check the stats a little closer. He hasn’t really shot many jumpshots during these playoffs either.

Static says:
Based on which teams is the aggressor is probably gonna determine the winner. Lamar and Pau will still be spotty, and Boston will figure out how to score halfway thru the third. Boston by 6 on last minute free throws.

@marcgar: He didn’t say that the team with the most grandkids was gonna win by 6.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Lakers respond to this. I hope Lamar and Pau step up soon, and Kobe keeps up the aggression he showed in Game 3. Really missing Bynum now - if he was playing Leon Powe would still be in anonymity and Phil Jackson would still be mispronouncing his name.

F-ck off, TADPole. Assuming we do go ahead and lose the series, I’ve got no issues with finishing second in the league, considering that we have been missing Bynum for basically all of 2008.

The Lakers lose a center, get a gimme in Pau and they cant make it to the next level because they lost their center…wait, or they gained a center in place of-sorry, unless Kobe goes down, the Lakers still have no excuses
Jun.12 at 5:18 pm
B. Long says:
@jbn74sb: Don’t give’em any excuses, dog. Seriously. Thats why the Mavs lost to the Heat because Mark Cuban’s constant b!tching about the calls all over ESPN basically told his team, “We’re getting screwed by the refs, so its ok to lose.” They really bought into that message. I don’t want the Lakers to have ANY excuses. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.
Jun.12 at 5:28 pm
jbn74sb says:
Excuses? Did any of you actually watch Bynum play this year? You don’t think he might help just a little bit against the Celtics? I mean, we’re not talking about the Ghost of Chris Mihm here.
Jun.12 at 5:32 pm
B. Long says:
@jb:I get that man, I do. But what I’m saying is that not having Bynum is the last thing that the Lakers or any of their fans should be worried about right now. We are 3 wins away from a ring and we haven’t lost a game at home since March. Sure he would help but we don’t need Bynum. We’ve already proven that we can beat the Celts without him.
Jun.12 at 5:34 pm
Tweaks says:
You need to remember that so far in the series we’ve seen “the big 3″ on full power (or less) and we’re still in a tight 2-1. Now, Lamar or Pau haven been not even CLOSE to full power in any of the previous games…so lakers fans (we) should be optimistic as “turns of events” are concerned. There’s no more tricks in the sleeve from Boston. The whole C’s “strategy” for this whole series was about over/done with/learned/killed by the lakers at the end of the second game. Now it’s only a momentum thing.
Jun.12 at 5:44 pm
Static says:
Actually livin in LA I got to watch Bynum play a lot this year, so you really can’t call the difference now because the Lakers would be plenty different had he stayed healthy. But to use that as a platform for reasons behind poor play from a team won’t get you any sympathy. You got two starters in the most important games of the season playing like D2 cub scouts and the only other guy willing to let loose is mostly a jump shooter. Defense and physicality are ruling this series and all you can deal with is what you have now and not what you coulda, shoulda, woulda had on a what if topic…if they lose tonight, the fat lady’s gonna set up the microphone
Jun.12 at 5:59 pm
daanswer says:
I think “Tweaks” has it way wrong…..The C’s BIG 3 hasnt run on all cylinders; KG is shooting jumpers, PP scored almost nothing and Ray wasnt fed like he should have been, and the LAKERS played the BEST GAME they could. If the Big 3 play the way they played ALL YEAR (and YES they beat the Lakers twice) THEY WILL WIN. Now, who wants to argue that?
Jun.12 at 6:08 pm
B. Long says:
@daanswer: I realize that since your obivously an AI fan you probably just started rooting for the Celtics since the finals started so I can understand you not knowing that KG has only shot jumpers the entire year. Paul Pierce and Ray Ray have been up and down thru out the playoffs. And those two wins came pre Pau and one came after Drew went down. Pau and L.O. haven’t even walked in the building yet but I got a feeling they’ll show up tonight. If not we always got Sasha!
Jun.12 at 6:13 pm
TADOne says:
Ahhhh Bodie, sarcasm is the word. I honestly could care less who wins this series because I don’t like either team, but I guess I could much better stomach the Celtics winning. And yeah, Bynum definitely could help out right now for the Lakers. But knee injuries are a tricky thing, and that kid may never be right again. Honestly, I just want a better showing tonight then what has been pased off as the championship series the first 3 games.

Jun.12 at 6:43 pm
Eboy says:
B, let me lay it out, TAD looks like a cross between Bubba Sparx and a bulky dude that missed out on being in House of Pain. izzo does not allow himself to be photographed, so you can only imagine. Cheryl has not had a photo surface so she’s unknown and Tariq is actually quite handsome for someone who has lived in the desert for most of his adult life.

Jun.12 at 6:57 pm
albie1kenobi says:
weren’t there supposed to be a bbq or something that all supposed to go to? that’d be fun as hell. we can actually get on the court and settle all the scores one and for all. then after everyone trips over themselves and pull a muscle or sprain something, we can ice down the injuries while watching some old game tapes of say, the 1993 Finals.
Jun.12 at 6:58 pm
B. Long says:
Somehow yall just got me to thinking about “Delievernce” being the most underrated album of all time. Of course I’m a country boy who had to move to the city at an early age, so maybe I can just relate to Bubba’s music more. Anyways…

I’d imagine Izzo’d be pissed off as hell every time someone hollers at him. “Don’t EVER call me Izzo. I’m AJ!!!!” hilarity ensues.

Jun.12 at 7:36 pm
albie1kenobi says:
no Eboy, i’d lose the case. i’m not picking battles i can’t win.
and yeah TAD, that’s the major problem. maybe we can set up a conference call or something for Izzo and Tariq (Hursty and ‘em too), then we can email them some pictures of the bbq food and maybe even try to replicate a basketball game through a few PS3. the trash talking can be done with no problem though.
Jun.12 at 7:38 pm

That’s awesome. So you’re going for the whole summer for the “experience”?

i was from the same damn gorgeous state that Eboy grew up in, then i came out here for college. i was probably more like a cali guy even when i was in jersey so i’ve just stayed ever since.
not that you need to know any of these, of course.

Only in the US TAD,over here I’m OK.

Watch your mouth, albie. There are some parts of Jersey that aren’t overun by Radon.
Jun.12 at 8:03 pm
Tweaks says:
“daanswer” …i guess you haven’t seen most of the lakers games this year.As i have noticed along the season Phil has a solid number of options when he aproaches a certain team. I mean his “C’s approach option” is certainly different from “Spurs approach option”…because the lakers are simply playing a different ballgame. Problem was so far, that they were not perfectly FiT into the C mold. But it’s kinda obvious that Phil is on a “longer harder safer” road in the series. I don’t know if i made myself understood, but in the way i see it it’s only a matter of time until the lakers fully get into that “now we know you-we are just better” rhythm and win it all with apparent ease. When you have Kobe and P.Jackson in the same mix you JUST HAVE TO think of more advanced scripts rather than the old predictable stuff that people just can’t get over and end up being so confused after they just happen…
Jun.12 at 8:04 pm
albie1kenobi says:
TAD: going to disneyland like you won a championship?
Eboy: i still got love for jersey. mad love, in fact.

is it just me or the lakers’ intro was plain boring few nights ago? I hope they come-up with some more intimidating stuff (eg. KG’s scream). From 4000 miles away the hype-factor sure seems soft for these finals (at least at staples)…….Missing the 90’s has to be a disease..That’s probably why i’m so sick of it all.

Dear Kobe, I’m going on another business trip tomorrow and will miss Game 5. In consideration of that, please score 50 points tonight and dunk ON someone to change the tide of this entire series. Lakers in 6? Thanks, Kevin

So puleeeeeez, never ever tell me about that next Jordan s**t again!!! Michael won 6 championships (would probably have been 7 or

I LOVE all this hate on Kobe. He wanted to be the best he could be, and he’s had a hall of fame career with 3 rings and an MVP award-most players would give their left nut for that. He never asked to be compared to Jordan. Let Kobe be Kobe.

true j dubb, although if he chose 22 instead of 24 i would have more sympathy. the funny thing bout kobe fans is that they get so mad at all the hate when they dont realise its actually THEIR blind beleif and constant comparisons to MJ that attract most of it. To put him in a sentence with mj is frankly laughable.
