Woodson Wants Hawks Back, Too
Time to rejoice, Hawks fans! Or not.
Mike Woodson has confirmed that he fully intends to sign the contract extension offered by the team yesterday, with the deal being reportedly for two years.
“What I can tell you is that I appreciate the support my players and staff have shown throughout this time,” Woodson said. “They’ve all been great.
And we’re all looking forward to the future and what can be accomplished going forward.”
Woodson’s head coaching record in Atlanta, by the way, is 106-222 during the past four years. Yikes. That almost hurts to type.
The good news for Atlanta is that the team can only get better; whether Woodson is the right man to lead them into the future remains to be seen.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. For a young team it’s important for them to be established in a consistent and stable environment. They also made the 8th seed and went 7 games with the Celtics, what’s not to like?

Maybe Stern wants to get new fans after the Donaghy scandals and ordered teams to make crazy choices for their coach, so the league becomes more entertaining. You know like we can text which coach should go first.

Maybe they’ll be able to build something from the (relative) playoff success this year. Maybe they’ll even get a game or two on Nat’l TV too. I actually don’t know much about Woodson (besides that awful record and some Lang hate)but I think Avery would actually be a great fit in the ATL. If he could that team to use its atheleticism defensively, I think they’d move up in the East.

What’s not to like you say?
In no particular order.
1-13 wins
2-26 wins
3-30 wins
4-37 wins
5- Not having any type of recognizable offense
6-fouling players out of games in the 2nd quarter voluntarily
7-Josh hates him
8-As does Salim
9-Not to mention ZA ZA
10-He’s shown no ability to develop players
11-Josh hates him.
12-His rotations are questionable
I could go on about this all day, but it would take too long. Just because the Hawks took the Celtics to 7 games everyone wants to act like the last 4 piss poor years never happened. They did and I remember them. I’d like to not go another 2 years with the same results or lack of results.

Woodson probably felt like the Publisher’s Clearing House Contestants do when Ed McMan shows up when he got that phone call.

Um… 106-122 is better than any 4 year tenure in recent memory for that team.

106 and TWO TWENTY TWO. not 106-122, Young Chris MP3. That’s not a subtle difference.

Thanks for your concerns, Albie. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If you hate lemonade, you better get accustomed to the taste. I’m not sure if that made sense, but I think it somehow applies to Hawks fans who root for our team, through thin and thinner. All I know is, if we took the Celtics to 7 games, and the Lakers lose in 5 or 6, we’re better than the ‘08 Lakers and Pistons. Obviously.

Not necessarily Myung. Matchups are what give a team an advantage over another team, and they didnt match up as well as they did against the Lakers and Pistons, not to mention they had their guard down anyway.

He’s Joe’s guy and its no coincidence that their contracts are both up in two years. when the team starts out 0-12 and Joe starts bitching underneath his breath………

Myung, i kinda thought about that this morning too. how does celtics get pushed to 7 games by the hawks and is pretty much whooping 2 really good teams’ ass? for hawks’ fans sake i’m rooting for celtics to finish the Finals on Sunday so Hawks fans can be proud (in a roundabout logic).

I’m cool wit us getting Woodson back. He’s shown progression and now isn’t the tiem to make big changes with a young team like we have. Even if some of you doubt him its only for two years so if anything goes wrong it won’t be to late to get rid of him.

i dont think hes that bad of a choice to be their coach. Familiarity with him and the players is good they only got better when they finally got a pg even if it was mike my daughter did my tatts bibby. Also, its not his fault the gm was an idiot who drafted sheldon williams AND drafted marvin williams over cp3 which would have had them in the playoffs for 3 years running

My biggest problem is the fact that coaches with waaaaay better records havent gotten as many chances as he has. If Avery Johnson, Flip Saunders and etc can get fired with all the success they had then Woody shouldn’t be given this many chances. Its ridiculous that the ATL spirit doesn’t expect more from their head coach. What kind of message does it send fans. And its not like all the players like or respect him. Joe is really the only one who supports him and thats only because he knows he gets to be the 1st 2nd and 3rd choice on offense. Terrible.
