Corey Maggette Back in Orlando?
After playing for one year under the watchful eye of Coach K at Duke University, Corey Maggette began his NBA career in Orlando, where he lasted … one season. No matter, he seems to have liked the place despite the short stay.
As he prepares to dip a toe into the free agency pool, there are rumblings that the man known as Maximus might return to Disney World.
“I think he’d come back in a heartbeat,” said a Maggette friend who is close to both the player and the Magic organization.
“It’s something he’d love to see happen.”
As the article points out, Orlando doesn’t have a boatload of cash to offer the 28-year old forward, but it’s not like he was going to command anything close to top dollar on the market anyhow.
Free Agency officially kicks off tomorrow, kids. Prepare thyselves for rumors galore!

That would be fantastic for OTown. Please let this happen, and strike fear into the hearts of the East.

who cares if he doesn’t command top dollar, you’re already overpaying Rashard big time and now you’ll be taking more shots from him and asking him to do even less….

Do they have enough balls to play with Dwight , Shard, Hedo and Maggette?

Damn, forgot about Hedo. Talk about overkill.

Battie will be at the 4 this year.
Problem is, if Otis can convince Maggette to take less, someone is going to have to come off the bench. Either Meer or He-Do.

Corey would be a good fit in Toronto, he’s the perimiter scorer they need!

That would be a dumb move for them. How many (almost)do-it-all small forwards do you need. They need a true power forward!

Justin says:
Maggette would be at the 2. Which is a need for the Magic, considering how well Rip played vs Orlando in the playoffs. Not to mention most 2 guards who played against Orlando last year. (See: Hughes, Larry. February 2008)

magette’s a head case. he gets his (or chucks up countless bricks trying) but everyone else be damned. not a bright move for a young team thta still seems humble and hungry

Well, he’s obviously an upgrade over Mo Evans and Bogans so as long as they don’t overpay him, it’s a good deal.

Magic should sign Maggette, then send him and Rashard back to clippers for Brand. this won’t happen but it’d be hilarious.

C’mon B. Colangelo, I’m counting on you to bring the man to Toronto. Start him at the 2 to add a slashing scorr to the mix, then have AP coming off the bench.
Make my dreams a reality!

crazylee12 says:
A starting line up of Calderon, Maggette, Kapono, CB4, and JO(however long he can stay healthy) would be sick.
Plus AP, Moon, Delfino, and others coming off the bench.
But…wh,wh-wh-one, one-two, one-two, some dreams stay dreams, some dreams come true.

Magette is a nice player, but it would be interesting to see how he fits on a team that doesn’t suck. The guy struggles to get 20 on teams where he’s literally the only scoring threat. Not a good sign. I remember a game where he was lighting Kobe up and doing a great job on him defensively. Flashes of brilliance, but I sure as hell wouldn’t throw a ton of paper at him.

Seeing as how their forwards are made of Kleenex and stand around jacking up 3’s all day, it would be nice to add a guy who can play 2 guard and draw some fouls. Good move.

Jackie Moon says:
Orlando should just sign Xzibit on the cheap, sit him on the bench in dress clothes, and just tell the fans it’s an injured Corey Maggette.

As long as Rashard “Tony-Dutt’s-a-frigging-genius” Lewis is at the 4,the Magic are fu{ked.Dwight is a beast but I’m not sure even he can overcome Shard’s tissue soft D and propensity for giving up 3-4 boards and a block every night to the opposing PF.Get a guy who can stick the mid-range J and board adequately well, then we’ll talk..

it would be a very weird move for the Magic to sign Maggette. Scoring is not the issue for that team. They need another big guy, another pg and a better bench.

SLAM ONLINE | » Elton Brand and Corey Maggette opt out says:
[…] Yesterday Mutoni mentioned a rumored return of Maggette to Orlando, as well as the fact that the with the free agent pool open, the trade waters are a flowin’. Well, now the two Duke buddies who became Clippers are opting out together. This works out well for Donald Sterling. He doesn’t want to pay his quality veterans, and now they don’t want him to pay them. Then again… Elton Brand had this to say: When reached by phone, Brand said he is aiming to re-sign with the Clippers. He is a two-time All-Star who has been with the team since 2001-02 but played in only eight games last season while recuperating from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon. […]
