But how much are they going to want to pay Gilbert, now that they know how strong they are without him?

You can’t tell me they are a better team without gil…they have been playin without him for so long that of course they are going to look awkward with him at about 70%/.

i’d break them up. at least just gil, 2 surgeries with a flat lift and no d doesnt add up to a max contract. i’d try to get a good pg (doesnt have to be a superstar)and a banger. keep jamison and caron as the faces of the team.
maybe they can follow the detroit formula

Nick, I’m going to tell you they’ll be better off without Gil.

I think they’re a better offensive unit without Gil on the floor *right now*. That being said, if you gave them enough time to gel, he’d probably fit in okay. I’m still iffy on the whole Gil as a point guard thing. I think he’s a better undersized 2.

I’d feel a lot better about them giving Gil a big extension had he been healthy this postseason. His knee is like a giant red flag with another red flag sticking out of it.

Gil can ball. That is a fact. But health has to be a factor in giving out a max contract… Gil is not a max player for the same reasons that BDiddy is not a max player. You just don’t know if they’ll play more than 40 games in a given year.

Gil is ineffective without the ball.

Agent Zero, possible Magician? Otis Smith was the GM that drafted him if I recall.

It is not a good year to get to the playoffs in the (l)East and get blown away in the 1st round again! Atlanta played better than them- they need Gilbert.

Well thats a pretty good idea…they will be really good if they stay 2 gether and get healthy…GO PISTONS

you guys are unbelievable
the guy plays hurt and you come hating on him. where did the wiz go without him? to the playoffs?
whats good on this??? they are EAST… remember that?!?! they are against pacers, knicks, nets, hawks, etc…
tell you what… with gil healthy, they would beat the cavs easily. did anybody really watched game 6? how can you say you think they are better without him???
which team can opt to “not-have” a treat like Gil???
the truth is, like it or not, there is NO nba team better without gil than with him, thats just obvious.
now, if you wanna discuss money thats a whole different discussion and there you need to go trough health and players in the market, and how much would him sign for…
just max his payment is a risk now and they have to manage that, but thats something any of us really know. u have to be in there to know all the tiny details, specially about player’s health.
but please, don’t come with absurds like he is ineffective without the ball or the wizards are better without him.
come on, even the spurs, lakers, n’wlins, and the celtics would be better with him, you want to tell me that the wizards are better than this? [sarcasm mode on] yeah, right, and lebron is that good as the media makes… [sarcasm mode off]

what’s the minimum he can sign for? Get him to houston somehow…

gil to the clips for brand. the wiz can give gil a max deal, the clips can max out brand and BOOM! the wizards are favorites for the title.

tmac and a wiz pick which we sign for a vet.

Hursty says:
gilbert and Antonio Daniels, good solid vet point to back up Gil and Skip. Bjax for a back up centre.

tealish says:
Gil is effective only on isos. Throws the entire offense off. Sure he can shoot the heck out of the ball, but his teammates become stiffs running up and down the floor for no apparent rason like Kobe’s teammates after the Shaq trade.
But if I were Washington, I wouldn’t trade him - yet. His value right now is as low as it has ever been and who knows, maybe he’s realized he needs to change his game up even when he’s back to 100%. Try him out for half a season and if it turns out he’s still playing iso-ball, trade him then. His stats will still be pretty good and his value would be better than it is now.

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
Arguing whether they’re better with Zero or without him is moot: even with their big 3, they aren’t getting further than the 2nd round. You aren’t gonna win the title with Jamison, or the Artist Who Never Saw a Circus Shot He Didn’t Like, as one of your three best players. Same probably goes for Gil. I guarantee you this much: they are never, ever gonna win the Championship with that core group of guys, so why not blow it up? (Of course, it is worth something - a lot - to at least be winning in the regular season. Not to mention the entertainment value of having a genuine folk hero around.)

BETCATS says:
an lineup of- C Haywood, PF Elton Brand, SF Jameison, SG Butler, PG Daniels should be good enough to win the East

Shu says:
I mean, Felton, JRich, GForce, Emeka and Nzar should be good enough to win the east. Hell, Nelson, Evans, Turkey, Shard, D12 should be good enough to win the east. And Gil is a LA native with marketable starpower so it’s something worth exploring, but that would mean the Clips are completely giving up on Shaun Livingston.
