Mike “D’Antonio” Says He’ll Win in New York

by Marcel Mutoni

The newest Knicks head coach said all of the right things in his introductory press conference.

D’Antoni said he’ll tweak his fast-paced offense to match it to the Knicks’ roster (translation: running will be replaced by walking); that he has no problem with Stephon Marbury (translation: he’s getting out of town on the first thing smoking); and even his wife took questions from the media.

The best part of the affair was when team president Donnie Walsh introduced his shiny new coach to the press corps as Mike “D’Antonio”

“Think fast and move the ball,” D’Antoni said about his attack. “We want to play fast. But whether we can play fast, like we did with Shawn Marion, I don’t know. We might not be as fast with Zach Randolph.”

This new era in Knicks basketball can’t start soon enough.

According to every report I’ve read, he’s just here to make the knicks exciting while walsh frees cap space for the Lebron sweepstakes in 2010.

Tuomas says:
“We might not be as fast, but we will be a whole lot more erratic. Whoops.”

FLUXLAND says:
“This is nothing compared to Milan. Here, everything is under a microscope. It’s the same thing there. Uhhh… what? I’m not smarter then the average bear, but does that mean she’s crazy?

“and I look forward to working with him.” Yeah! As long as he’s on another team within the NBA.

Of course he says they’ll win, he ha$$$. Yah, and Eddy Curry will be on a Nutra-Slims commerical “I lost a zillion pounds”.

Simone Lawy says:
nba “where the trade happen” trade Z-bo , starbury, and curry…..that’s the 1st step.

May.14 at 10:10 am

BETCATS says:
Maybe if they get a pass first point guard for Z-Bo, and get Steph to play SG they will be able to run. Eddy Curry can play the Shaq role and just get rebounds and do outlet passes.

H to the izzo says:
Eddy Curry get rebounds?!

rollball says:
as a knick fan, I am hoping Mike D can really bring it this time.

May.14 at 10:21 am

Randy Brown says:
I like how he managed to essentially criticise the Marion trade and say he wants rid of Zach Randolph in one fell swoop. Such efficiency

May.14 at 10:36 am

BETCATS says:
yeah izzo, it would only work if that happend (but it wont)

While its not like he cab’t afford to - but at least D’Antoni won’t have buy any new ties.

May.14 at 10:56 am

thebirdman says:
can’t

ciolkstar says:
Yeah, D’antoni will win big — 6 million dollars a year! Really? I think this is gonna end up bad if they’re not able to trade their whole roster. (except David Lee)

apparently he wants to get Leandro and Diaw from the Suns for Steph, a source says they’re suppose to be available, he must be drinking whatever Steph is drinking

May.14 at 12:01 pm

Silky Slim says:
I’m not going to discredit D’Antoni. He maybe able to pull this off. With is focus on offense and not so much on defense, I can see the players buying into his system 100%. The only concern is Zack Randolph aka “the human ball stopper.” He’s the black hole, because balls go in, but they don’t come out.

underdog says:
Mention Marion’s speed and Z-Bo’s speed in the same sentence is offending.

Kevin Wilson says:
Mike D’Antoni will win. He’ll just lose a lot more.

May.14 at 1:18 pm

Simone Lawy says:
he’ll win, if starbury remain as PG…LOL

May.14 at 1:22 pm

BxBaller says:
Starbury is too damn valuable to the Knicks to be traded. Steph will be our starting point guard for all of the 08-09 season, and we will make the playofs in the east. Put money on it.

May.14 at 1:51 pm

tealish says:
Haha @ homer above with head stuck in sand. 2010 might be your year though. You guys do have all the cash in the world to spend.

May.14 at 2:07 pm

FLUXLAND says:
BxBaller sells Starbury shoes.. hence comment. And if Marbury does play better it will be only for himself and getting another contract. CUT THE CHECK is his motto.

albie1kenobi says:
it’s just like watching a trainwreck like last year, only faster.

I pray for Steph every night is that strange?

May.14 at 4:34 pm

Sari says:
u kno, i actually think starbury has a chance of havin a good year, i mean if he plays pg with a little of sg and a run n gun offense….it might just work

May.14 at 6:44 pm

BxBaller says:
Laugh now mofos, Steph will be back, trust me. BTW you can’t tell me that Steph is not a top 10 pg.

May.14 at 7:16 pm

ALLRIGHTS says:
i think this is a good move for the NY Knicks… It’s certianly a good move for the NY press corps who must feel like the East Germans when the wall came down… whether this is a good move for Diantonio remains to be seen. so far so bizarre…

May.14 at 8:38 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Steph is not a top 10 PG. Not anymore. Williams, Paul, Nash, Parker, Billups, Davis, Kidd, Calderon, Harris, Bibby. For starters.

May.14 at 8:39 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Oh, and Andre Miller. It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.

May.14 at 8:44 pm

speedcat says:

Now by ‘New Era’ in Knicks basketball you mean a contemporary design of those ubiquitous fitted caps, right?

May.14 at 11:45 pm

Dacre says:
LOL…this is awesome. The knicks add A COACH and all of a sudden Starbury is relevent again….

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
The corpse of Mike Bibby is not a top 10 PG - that is just ridiculous.

May.15 at 4:23 am

Hursty says:
Staph is a better shooter than Steve Nash except for 3 balls, never mind the passing…

May.15 at 10:42 am

speedcat says:
i hate to defend bibby, i personally can’t stand him but………….
i wasnt saying bibby was a top ten, im saying bibby is more effective as a pg and a better floor leader. when traded to sactown he made them a finals contender (which j williams couldnt do) and when traded to atl, somehow they got in the playoffs…and took boston to 7.
so bibby’s done something else that steph’s never done…made his new team better. lets not even begin to compare nash with marbury…steph’s never been a 2 time mvp, or even in consideration for one.

May.15 at 1:14 pm

Kevin says:
Marbury’s not close to a top 10 PG.. i’d rather have Rafer Alston than Marbury for f*cks sake.

May.26 at 7:31 pm

Cameron G says:
they’ll still suck
