Mark Jackson: On the Radar in Phoenix?

by Marcel Mutoni

Still feeling the sting from losing out on the job he so coveted, Mark Jackson could find himself stalking another high-profile sideline in the not-too-distant future. Irony of ironies, he could end up replacing the man who took his dream gig.

There’s talk that Mark Jackson is set to interview with the coachless Suns, and Jackson wouldn’t mind the job one bit.

NBA sources said that longtime NBA point guard and ABC broadcaster Mark Jackson, who confirmed his interest in the job, will get one of the first interviews with Suns general manager Steve Kerr when that process starts next week.

“It’s a great job. That team is ready to win right now,” Jackson told the Tribune Monday. “It’s very intriguing. Anyone who got that job would consider himself lucky.”

Despite the lack of coaching experience, Jackson could actually be a pretty good fit in Phoenix. He’s respected and well-liked seemingly by everyone, and he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would scoff at the idea of playing defense once in a while.

If he gets it, he’ll pull an avery and gets named COY, before losing to the spurs in the playoffs.

I apologize for my ignorance, but was Jackson an assistant coach before he became a broadcaster?

So Amare is gonna learn Mark Jackson’s patented tear drop shot?

Stern should make an age limit for the coaches too, so they can hang out in the NCAA couple of years before coaching in the NBA.

Jackson’s going to make Nash gain 40 pounds and start posting up every point in the league.

Mutoni, there are so many names going on for the Phoenix job, man, you can make 5 other posts about this one. As far as I know, Steve Kerr hinted that he wanted a coach who already has some experience. Rumors are that Eddie Johnson has been named, Vinny Del Negro, amongst others, and also Mark Jackson. The only coach that has been named for the Phoenix job WITH experience, is Paul Silas. I don’t care what happens, as long as Silas gets back into the League, that’s all I’m saying.

underdog-The last thing we need is more NCAA coaches in the NBA.

Vinny Del Negro!? Great name and decent player on some classic Spurs teams but I’d think Paul Silas, although I really can’t think of what style offense he ran in CLE.

Tommy, I think that’s exactly the same what Billy Donovan had in his mind.

Breaking news, Larry Brown just quit as coach of the Bobcats to interview for the Phoenix job…. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if that statement crawled across the bottom of my TV screen.

Mark Jackson will keep telling the Suns that they’re better than that.

mark jackson and kerr will team up to do the play-by-play for suns every game also, and become to most legitimite homer announcers.

ciolkstar says:
Larry Brown is dumb for taking the Bobcats job. They’ll ptobably never be good. No matter what, as long and Jordan is the bossman. Chicago or Phoenix would’ve been much mre desireable and have some pieces in place, he couldn’t really F*ck with New York though for obvious reasons.

Bryant Reeves says:
Del Negro please - no way is Jax taking over in Phoenix. Kerr will grab someone will at least some experience. How could someone with no experience be able to manage the egos and politics on that team.

TAD, Mark has never been an assistant coach, but he coached his team every time he was on the floor as a player.

Mark Jackson was never a homer when he worked for the YES Network, doing Nets games. He and Marv YESSSS Albert were great.

Can we get Reggie Miller a job besides being an announcer. If I hear him say “Marv-oulous” one more time I’m going on a shooting spree.

DeLa One says:
“Mark Jackson” and the word “Defense” should never be printed in the same column……Do you remember his game?……Steve Nash could give HIM pointers!

Dacre says:
LOL…Yeah but no one shimmied like Mjack. Not even ‘Tooine Walker….
I think it would be a nice fit…a veteran roster in the midst of an identity search and a relatively unknown quantity in a new coach.
Could be interesting….the BIG QUESTION IS THOUGH…
WHAT WINS IT FOR THE SUNS? AN EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH OR A COACH THAT HAS A WINNING RECORD?

As Much as I don’t want to say it…PHOENIX HAVE ONE SEASON LEFT WITH THIS ROSTER.

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
I don’t know why everyone expects him to do so well when he hasn’t coached a day in his life (and spare me the “coached every time he played” angle). Maybe he will, but I still think he’s been overhyped.

Eazy-Yi says:
Could Larry Brown do anything for this team? Or is my my head about to explode?

May.15 at 1:19 pm

Gerard Himself says:
Yi: I don’t even know why you would mention Brown. He’s the coach of the Bobcats.
