Jose Calderon Wants to Start
Well, so much for Jose Calderon being the ultimate selfless teammate; a guy only concerned with winning and bringing fellow Dinos some Gatorade on the bench to keep them properly hydrated.
Jose, like every professional athlete on the planet, wants a prime-time role.
“I want to be a starter and to be in a team that aspires for everything.
“Of course I will not be in a team in which I cannot be an important contributor nor if there is not a solid structure or if there are not options to be in the “Playoffs”
Jose is without a doubt the Raptors’ best point guard, and yet, his role on the team continues to be ill-defined, as coaching and management insist on letting both he and TJ Ford take turns steering the ship.
You can’t fault Calderon for wanting to start; he may be looking out for his best interests (as he should), but it’s also what’s right for Toronto.

The Raps should try to package TJ and one of their 17 SFs and/or another player and try to get a veteran banger or a consistent slasher/scorer.
Start Jose and bring in Roko Ukic as the backup PG.

See, thing is, TJ is only good if you wanna push the ball up every possession, which Toronto tried for about 10 games 2 seasons ago and failed. TJ really shines in a super-uptempo system, but once a half-court offense sets in he struggles and overdribbles. The best uptempo system in recent memory (the PHX Suns’) has failed repeatedly in the postseason, so going that route is a bad idea. The Raps should definitely look to trade TJ to a team which is a better fit for him.

“coaches can’t teach height” and as a result they’ll take the potential in hopes of teaching skill. TJ’s in the same boat, you can’t teach his physical ability, and so the raptors dreamt of teaching him skill. The only problem is some people never realize their potential. Wasn’t Sam Bowie picked before Jordan for his potential, how’d he do? Raptors have to give TJ away because of his past accidents…too bad!

I really think that the Toronto Raptors should keep Jose Calderon because he’s now one of the elite point-gaurds around the league since he has an excellent working talent which has lead to his great overall increase/improvement present in his game. Basically I think that Jose is like a polished gem found among European players around the league.

Ford will start next year, since no team will trade for his contract. Calderon will be traded to get some new pieces that can get toronto out of the first round next year. Toronto is weak on boards and blocked shots. Calderon and Kappono for Przybilla and Steve Blake?

A good move would be move to send TJ and other wings to the Clippers for Magette. The Clips need a pg and with the success of Thornton, it would make sense to move CMag. Raps could use a true second option.

Jose is arguably one of the top 5 PGs in the league and TJ is another injury away from potentially being paralized, he’s also become more of an offensive PG who shoots first… this doesn’t work well on the Rapz…I just don’t see the logic in keeping TJ…he’s also got 26 mill left over 3 years….we can clear up some salary cap by getting rid of him
