Links: Playoffs Diary Day Five

49?

by Lang Whitaker

The good news is I’m creating a new posts for you night owls to talk and argue. The bad news is I didn’t see much of any games except for the Hawks/Celts debacle. I saw that the Pistons woke up and put the smack down on Philly. And I did see highlights of Kobe’s 49-point (and 10 assist) barrage on TNT.

So except for that Philly/Detroit series, every other series is sitting at 2-0. What’s your biggest surprise? What’s been least surprising? And who’s been your Playoff MVP?

Myles Brown says:
Biggest surprise? Only one tied series. Least surprising? Kobe. Playoff MVP? Too early. But its probably between the same two guys….

Apr.24 at 1:46 am

Tuomas says:
Biggest surprise to me has to be how Philly got away with game one. Least surprising - along with the ramifications of that theft - has been the Nuggets so-called d.

Apr.24 at 1:52 am

Hursty says:
co-sign Myles. Tuomas- was it really? everyone(mostly) thought there was going to be a game the pistons dropped in the series.

Apr.24 at 1:53 am

Elyse says:
I think game the game 3’s will be interesting. Who can come back at home and make a series of it?

Apr.24 at 1:55 am

J-Smoove says:
…..AND 10 ASSISTS kobe is ridiculous

Apr.24 at 1:55 am

Tuomas says:
Yeah, but not the first one. I expected games 3 and/or 4.

Apr.24 at 1:57 am

Hursty says:
who can come back on the road… Houston? not with the way we’ve (they’ve) been playing…. toronto might get a game, Dallas, maybe, Suns possibly both. Thing is, the way the homecourt teams have played is much better than their opposition (except spurs, houston, pistons) and the road may only provide one win for the home team.

Apr.24 at 1:59 am

TMT says:
MVP… MVP… MVP… Most Valuable (with) Pau.

Apr.24 at 1:59 am

Tuomas says:
Yeah, but not the first one. I expected games three and/or four - kinda in the same manner as last year’s Bulls series. Take control and then, you know, tank a bit.

Apr.24 at 1:59 am

Hursty says:
kobe 49, 10 and 4. the first game may have been the most difficult for the pistons due to them resting the starters for the last oh, 20 games :) so picking up the intensity might’ve been an issue and Philly played much better in G1 than 2.

Apr.24 at 2:00 am

Tuomas says:
Oh, pardon the double. Just too impatient, I’m afraid.

Apr.24 at 2:02 am

Tuomas says:
Fair enough Hursty.

Apr.24 at 2:03 am

Hursty says:
jumpers, dunks, alley oops, floaters, finger rolls, and 1’s, freebies, Kobe’s game had it all today.

Apr.24 at 2:04 am

RV says:
how many pts did he score in the 4th? didnt he have like 22 in the 3rd? Explosive-ass Kobe..

Apr.24 at 2:05 am

Hursty says:
to be really controversial, im gonna say that right now, Kobe is a better perimiter player than Jordan at 29/30.(not to mention 3pt%).

Apr.24 at 2:07 am

Hursty says:
19 in the 4th.

Apr.24 at 2:10 am

RV says:
i dont think ur gonna get much controversy out of that, MJ took a while to settle for jumpers instead of attacking, and he never was as good of a 3 pt shooter and didn’t take as many

Apr.24 at 2:11 am

Tuomas says:
Don’t go there. I’m a friendly, peaceful person whose team just kicked ass, so I’ll have to resign myself from that one. But dude was sick, that’s for sure.

Apr.24 at 2:11 am

Hursty says:
he had 5 in the 3rd. A 3 and a sweet alley oop at the end.

Apr.24 at 2:12 am

Tom says:
Kobe was unreal…..dude just had everything dropping. Not to mention some of his assists were pretty sick too.

Apr.24 at 2:13 am

Russ Bengtson says:
Can’t say I expected Dwight to drop consecutive 20/20s, seeing that no one’s done it since Nate Thurmond. Least surprising has been the Mavs being entirely unprepared again (tied with the Suns/Spurs complain-a-thon). Playoff MVP is Brendan Haywood.

Apr.24 at 2:16 am

Hursty says:
Tuomas-who you support?
RV- i know Jordan didnt really shoot 3’s but i meant his jumper was always good even as a rookie (from footage I’ve seen) and it was more reliable than Kobe’s was when younger. Kobe breaks his guy down a lot to get to the rack while Jordan would usually just jab, rocker then have one cross over move, He wasnt really known for his handles though was he…?

Apr.24 at 2:16 am

Tuomas says:
Guess Stan van’s words of “encouragement” are paying dividends, huh?

Apr.24 at 2:18 am

J Ho5 says:
Take that CP3…wow

Apr.24 at 2:18 am

Hursty says:
Leandro Barbossa gets my IPWLI vote so far.

Apr.24 at 2:19 am

Tom says:
I’m actually surprised dallas didn’t win one of the first two. I thought they’d be playing with more of a sense of desperation. Not too surprised about Dwights dominance since toronto is especially soft in the middle. I think washingtons bad-boy pistons impression is the most surprising thing to me, seeing as how its totally unneccesary and doesn’t suit their players at all.

Apr.24 at 2:20 am

Tuomas says:
Oh, sorry Hursty. Detroit.

Apr.24 at 2:22 am

Hursty says:
ok cool. I know TADone would love some support for the pistons.

Apr.24 at 2:23 am

davidR says:
big surprise was al horford going for 20 & 10 in game 1 against boston. what a way to debut in the playoffs, especially against the best defensive team in the league

Apr.24 at 2:24 am

RV says:
least surprising is boston up 2-0 in big wins, playoffs mvp is either dwight or lebron, prob dwight cus those back to back 20-20s were insane….biggest surprise, is houston giving up both games at home, i truly expected them to take one at least

Apr.24 at 2:25 am

davidR says:
also, washington and dallas not putting up much of a fight. i had higher expectations for both teams, especially considering who they were matched up against

Apr.24 at 2:29 am

Hursty says:
Important Player With Least Impact: Barbossa, TJ Ford, Mike Bibby, Iggy (G2), Odom (G2).

Apr.24 at 2:29 am

The Life and Times of Roger Rabbit says:
Hey Lang do me a favor. E-mail Ernie (since you seem to be friendly with him) and tell him to tell Reggie to stop screaming when talking about a play leading into a commercial break. It would be much appreciated. The director or whoever tells “five seconds until commercial” and he feels like the only way he could talk about the play before the commercials start is to scream. It’s very. very annoying especially with his voice.

Apr.24 at 2:31 am

Hursty says:
Reggie is annoying flat out bunny.

Apr.24 at 2:32 am

Tuomas says:
Yeah well, I lost the Pistons a bit after the original Bad Boys when Kemp & Payton happened. But June of 2004 was just about the happiest I’ve been in my life basketball-wise. Just haven’t bothered to post here that regularly. Boston best defensive team? Now that’s controversial. Oh well, gotta go to work - meaning go to my Uni library and get paid to hang in here and Facebook. Man, life’s tough.

Apr.24 at 2:32 am

J-Smoove says:
Hursty….who is Mike Bibby?

Apr.24 at 2:34 am

Russ Bengtson says:
I actually skipped Lakers/Nuggets tonight because Reggie was on. Between him and Craig “LOOK AT ME!!!!” Sager, I just couldn’t deal. Both of those guys need to go.

Apr.24 at 2:36 am

Hursty says:
Russ, am i correct in saying it was you who said that you would NOT watch a playoff series due to Reggie :)
J-smoove- some gut who used to throw passes to you, now he sits on the bench with a towel on his head.

Apr.24 at 2:39 am

Co Co says:
But Russ did you watch Inside The NBA? Too Funny!

Apr.24 at 2:41 am

Hursty says:
Co Co ‘Inside the NBA’ is favourite show on TV, makes my day. That and MXC on V are the best shows.

Apr.24 at 2:49 am

J-Smoove says:
Just wondering…does anybody remember when chris paul boomed on dwight howard

Apr.24 at 2:52 am

Hursty says:
BMDOBALMG

Apr.24 at 2:55 am

J-Smoove says:
and when kobe boomed on dwight howard

Apr.24 at 2:55 am

Hursty says:
i remember slam doing a slam ups on that, maybe it was dwight, same sort of acronym. Still love dwight interview about being a rook and getting dunked in by Kobe. Lol.

Apr.24 at 2:57 am

Hursty says:
kobe is bigger though- and he was in a dunk contest, the winner no less.

Apr.24 at 3:01 am

Hursty says:
LeBron jumping into Delonte West (as a Celtic) and knee-ing him in the head was awesome. YEH!

Apr.24 at 3:02 am

J-Smoove says:
good thing im a Lakers fan…because im from Houston and the rockets are makin mad…i feel sorry for T-mac but not really and is yao ming really injured

Apr.24 at 3:06 am

Hursty says:
probably. As a rockets fan it hurts me to see this again. and again. Conspiracy rumours wont abate about his foot and China controlling his game for the Olympics.

Apr.24 at 3:09 am

d.Y. says:
This must be Karl’s fault right? Couldn’t a better coach do something with this squad?

Apr.24 at 3:12 am

RV says:
i think yao is probably ready to go right now at 75%, but of course they won’t risk it

RV says:
f@ck, that’s what happens when u try to get ink off the enter button while not paying attn..

Apr.24 at 3:13 am

davidR says:
dy, i’d like to think so. but when you have ai, and a mature melo getting dui’s before the playoffs, i’m not sure if its the coach’s lack of guidance or the players’ lack of ability to listen

Apr.24 at 3:13 am

J-Smoove says:
the rockets role players always seem to be lost on the floor sometimes…and you can tell mcgrady is already frustrated…i highly doubt that they steal a game in utah

Apr.24 at 3:14 am

davidR says:
anyway, whats does “BMDOBALMG” stand for, and what did “FTH” stand for a while back? i remember all the slam staffers using that a while back but i never figured it out. maybe they all play wow? haha

Apr.24 at 3:15 am

Hursty says:
the nuggets are the western knicks without the management and a slightly better coach. Who make the playoffs. What can you do with the players and their personalies the way they are? similair to the Blazers with sheed, randolph haha. Its up to whoever the GM is, the scouts, drafters and coaches and leadership to sort this sh!t out. If you want to draft all the athletic shooters that great but you need a counterbalance.

Apr.24 at 3:17 am

RV says:
the worst part is they have the skills/talent, but they hesitate too much, scola always hesitates on his J, Landry hesitates on his put backs since his injury, bobby hesitates on his 3s, luther hesitates on everything, even walking, deke hesitates on put backs, etc.

Apr.24 at 3:18 am

d.Y. says:
F*** The Haters. You’re on your own with the other one. AI knows how to win, as does Melo (DUI notwithstanding, that was crazy stupid). The problem is that they don’t play as a team. They haven’t tuned Karl out, but he’s the guy to set tone in that dept, an he hasn’t.

Apr.24 at 3:19 am

Hursty says:
Big Man Dunked On By A Little Mother Fu(king Guard. Never figured out the last part of the FTH Part of the acronym.

Apr.24 at 3:21 am

Nhonsense says:
I know 49/10 is a great line, but Chris Paul averaging 33.5/13.5 with 3.5 steals/game is the early playoff MVP. Oh, and he just happened to shoot 65% from the field during the first two games.

Apr.24 at 3:22 am

Tuomas says:
Hello again. Kobe’s dunk on Howard is still one of my all-time favorites. Man that was nuts. It was a slamadamonth also, with the writer doing some wacky piece about Chocolate Thunder watching the dunk from Lovetron or something. Come to think of it, Russ is the obvious guess.

Apr.24 at 3:22 am

bballer says:
If Reggie’s voice is annoying then just press mute and enjoy the game!

Apr.24 at 3:23 am

J-Smoove says:
the rockets basically walk the ball up and pass it to t-mac and stand around until he shoots or pass…nobody can get a bucket by themselves except for maybe scola

Apr.24 at 3:24 am

Hursty says:
seriously RV, fu(k luther. walking is so hard for that dude. Landry was awesome prior to injury with his energy, scola would rather get it under the ring and use his butt to push backwards and get and 1’s for a lay up. Deke cant be blamed, he put effort into everything and is great for his age and ability at this stage of his career :)
thanks dy

Apr.24 at 3:27 am

Hursty says:
thing is, the rockets seem to break down when Tmac starts to score within the system, then they stand around, when it runs well, you can see guys like scola, landry, skip getting to the hoop on backdoor cuts etc, otherwise hes forced to hog the ball and create-leading to doubles on him and turnovers.

Apr.24 at 3:31 am

J-Smoove says:
couldn’t have said it any better myself hursty….its almost bittersweet watching jason kidd guard chris paul…i love watching chris paul play but you can’t help but feel a little sympathy for j.kidd…and I’m hoping Kobe gets to hold up the MVP trophy

Apr.24 at 3:34 am

J-Smoove says:
speaking of dunks…remember when T-mac went all beast mode on da Mavericks in the playoffs a few years ago (AND THE ROCKETS STILL LOST =[) and dunked on shawn bradley and shawn looked like he was about to cry

Apr.24 at 3:35 am

Mehmet says:
The best part of this night was that clip of Kenny Smith getting hit by a car. That was by far the most fun thing that I saw tonight.

Apr.24 at 3:37 am

J-Smoove says:
and for some reason every time i hear dirk’s name i think of that old G-Unit song I Smell P***Y

Apr.24 at 3:39 am

Mehmet says:
The biggest surprise is how Dallas seems to be going down without a fight. They play like they did in the GSW series. Did they give up already? Or are they gonna make this a series on Friday?

Apr.24 at 3:42 am

Logan says:
KOBE! awesome game…

Apr.24 at 3:44 am

Tuomas says:
TMac on Bradley was similar, yeah. Woulda loved to see it live, Doug Collins said something like “He sucked the gravity right out of the building”. Didn’t the Rockets go up 2-0 on the road, only to drop the series in 6 or 7 games? Tracy’s had fun in the first round, even with Magic they were once up 3-1 against the top-seeded Pistons. Needless to say, it didn’t quite work out either.

Apr.24 at 3:46 am

Hursty says:
no, once the series is back in dallas i think they’ll get g3 or at least make it go to OT. some confidence and swagger will return. I want to see a series so dallas doing well is in my best interests. :)

Apr.24 at 3:48 am

Hursty says:
thing is tmac said ‘it feels so good to finally be out of the first round’ in the press conference up 3-1. oops.

Apr.24 at 3:48 am

Russ Bengtson says:
New Orleans hasn’t won a game in Dallas since 1837, and Game Three is a must-win. I think they get it together.

Apr.24 at 3:51 am

Mehmet says:
Well, they say a series does not start until a team wins on the road. So there’s still hope for Dallas and Phoenix. Maybe.

Apr.24 at 3:54 am

Hursty says:
Yeh, I said that yesterday. SVG was right.

Apr.24 at 3:56 am

Logan says:
i thought the gravity thing was said when kobe did the baseline crazy dunk on the timberwolves…that clip always had a bar showing ‘blue streak’ on some channel

Apr.24 at 3:57 am

Logan says:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OCSGp1NdS0&feature=related
bad quality…but ‘Kobe Bryant just sucked the gravity out of the target center’

Apr.24 at 3:59 am

Tuomas says:
While in the East, Tracy used to run his mouth waaaaay too much for his own good. I’d already forgotten the blooper line from that Detroit series, but didn’t he also crap on his team’s chances against New Orleans when he said he was the best player in the series. Baron had a problem with that and, well, you know.

Apr.24 at 4:00 am

Hursty says:
nope. they said the name of the building on Kobe. Tmac no. also, tmac was before kobe with regards to the dunk.

Apr.24 at 4:02 am

Logan says:
yeah i am trying to put the youtube link and getting moderated
‘Kobe Bryant just sucked the gravity out of the target center’

Apr.24 at 4:02 am

Hursty says:
gotta remember hes only 28 so in orlando he was like 22-25.

Apr.24 at 4:02 am

Logan says:
that was a sick dunk

Apr.24 at 4:04 am

Logan says:
i still like TMac…it just sucks for him that he is in the west….all star votes, playoffs, everything is tougher in the west

Apr.24 at 4:05 am

Hursty says:
true. back in the days where he would try consistently, now its only like 60% of the time. In the playoffs he tries but his best is lacking because of lack of effort in the reg. season, making him less potent.

Apr.24 at 4:10 am

John E. Sanford says:
At one point during the Nugs-Lakers game, Reggie said Kobe “garnished attention…”

Apr.24 at 4:12 am

Logan says:
exactly, he tunes out. he is like that guy in pickup ball who can turn it on only when he wants…so he is amongst the first to get picked…does not give 100% in most games, unless the losers have to leave the court…..even then, not a given that he will play 100%

Apr.24 at 4:13 am

Mehmet says:
I remember Reggie saying that before. He says a lot of things like that. He sounds like a 6-year old trying to talk like an adult.

Apr.24 at 4:13 am

Logan says:
Reggie…..well, he ‘butchered the English language’ after Kobe ‘garnished attention…’
damn too many cooking references for one sentence

Apr.24 at 4:21 am

Tuomas says:
Reggie’s horrible beyond words, there’s just no sugar coating it.

Apr.24 at 4:32 am

Hursty says:
look at where eduardo najera (or however you spell that sh1t) head is on the Kobe photo. thats right Denver, ‘insert nasty sexual joke’

Apr.24 at 4:37 am

Logan says:
also, in the same pic, check the expression of the woman sitting in the first row…damn..

Apr.24 at 4:39 am

Hursty says:
See JR mouthing off at Kobe most of the 2nd half? what a dumbass. 46 points then he goes right past him for and 1. good night JR.

Apr.24 at 4:41 am

Hursty says:
HA!

Apr.24 at 4:43 am

Logan says:
yeah i don’t get if this is a denver strategy of trying to get into Kobe’s head…..a lot of the denver guys are chatting with him….don’t they know there is not enough room for all the Kobes in Kobe’s head, he is not going to let anyone else get in there….

Apr.24 at 4:43 am

Hursty says:
wtf?! the pic doesnt have a lady on it.

Apr.24 at 4:45 am

Hursty says:
stephen a smith is a tool. just sayin :)

Apr.24 at 4:46 am

Logan says:
ok my links are getting moderated….check yahoo sports NBA section, 5th pic in the latest pics section

Apr.24 at 4:47 am

Logan says:
Stephen A has one job….getting people talking about him….and he does it well…..and yeah, he is a tool

Apr.24 at 4:48 am

Logan says:
that pic has Eduardo Najera thinking ‘mom, I finally got on a poster’

Apr.24 at 4:50 am

Hursty says:
Logan you ever see the link on PP (peoples princess) heckling him at the draft? funny.

Apr.24 at 4:51 am

Hursty says:
yeh, like i said insert sucking Kobe and the lakers joke

Apr.24 at 4:54 am

Logan says:
heh yeah, funny stuff. i feel for AI, but i hope the lakeshow keeps the momentum going….
right Hurs, i got to go get some sleep….will catch up with you later buddy

Apr.24 at 4:54 am

Hursty says:
dude in the white v tank top looks like he should be wearing make up. uphill gardener etc.

Apr.24 at 4:55 am

Hursty says:
have a good one.

Apr.24 at 5:14 am

Logan says:
heh yeah..

Apr.24 at 5:18 am

Hursty says:
tmac needs more than 40 and needs his team to step up to steal a game on the road.

Apr.24 at 5:30 am

Tuomas says:
Damn, that oop on Najera was crazy. But back to the young TMac. After getting dealt to Orlando, he talked about how he was a superstar - without backing it up yet. But after that he got something like 25ppg in the regular season and 31 or 32 in the first round. He didn’t always jinx himself…

Apr.24 at 5:53 am

Jason says:
That must have been the first time all season Kobe has had 10 asst. LMAO!! Nah, but he had a nice game, although I was scared for him mouthing off to KMART and JR Smith, Kobe must have forgotten that he has zero street cred and no one respects him off the court, so I was afraid for his life. ROTFL! He’s lucky they kept cool and just called it a night. Kobe would have gotten his ass strait whooped on national t.v…that would have been a great finale actually. LMAO! That said, I wish Iverson would opt out if that Nuggets team is not going to get a Coach with a new concept. Dude is too much of a warrior to be spending the rest of his career on another team that is at least not going to contend. Also, I like the Lakers future, but they are not getting passed the second round. The Jazz are far more disciplined then the Nuggets. I want to see how much Kobe is running his mouth and sharing with his teammates when the Lakers are down 0-2 to the Jazz.

Apr.24 at 5:53 am

B-Jizzle says:
Biggest surprise (by far) is that Chris Andersen hasn’t come in and ruined the Hornets. It isn’t too late though, Chris. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. What happened to that boy?

Apr.24 at 6:10 am

Logan says:
Jason, the Lakers are 3-1 against Utah this season, with the last win coming on 21st March. that game, incidentally was the same one where the Lakers broke the Jazz 19 game win streak at home. Against the Jazz, Kobe has got 31 pts 7 assists, 33 pts 3 assists, 28 pts 3 assists and 27 pts 7 assists, playing balanced basketball. I dont think the Jazz are going to stop LA in the second round, much less LA being down 0-2. Also, the game that the Jazz won, it took a triple double from AK for that to happen….. As far as street cred is concerned, i am sure getting scored on again and again even if you’re three inches taller (K Mart) and getting whupped while you run your mouth (JR) does not do much to bolster it, right? Maybe they need to shut the eff up and play some ball….

Apr.24 at 6:24 am

Hursty says:
he got stuck on the bench. Jason are you KIDDING ME!? i agree with you about Melo, then you go and backhand Kobe? damn. thats cold man. dude has double digit assists 4-5 times this year and been stuck on 8 or 9 more than a half dozen. I get that it might be a joke but you’ll get biat(hed by ms. Mckenzie otherwise.

Apr.24 at 6:31 am

Logan says:
hey Hurs, decided sleeping was overrated….you think the Wiz are going to get one against LeCavs?

Apr.24 at 6:52 am

Hursty says:
Sorry about response time… ummm, not at this rate. Gil needs to step up. If hes out there he needs to put in 100% and work. Antonio Daniels is one of those guys like Calderon who never steals anyone elses light and is somewhat like Andre Miller. If he plays extended minutes with gil at the 2 and ‘overrated’ sitting on the bench he’ll out them in a better position to win.

Apr.24 at 7:00 am

Tariq says:
Most Surprising:
Duncan hit a f*cking THREE. And not just any old three either. Least Surprising:
Duncan hit a f*cking three. Playoff MVP:
Brian Skinner’s beard.

Apr.24 at 7:07 am

Hursty says:
what up tariq!? spose your right. surprised Tony Allen not getting more PT. Ray Ray locking down JJ is great! ’slid those feet sugar hands!’

Apr.24 at 7:11 am

Tariq says:
hey hursty.

Apr.24 at 7:11 am

Hursty says:
Most surprising:dwight getting CONSECUTIVE 20/20’s.
Least surprising: TP copping some sort of beating (it always seems to happen). Manu hitting game winners and my beloved Houston stuggling. Again.

Apr.24 at 7:14 am

Jason says:
Damn, Kobes fans get angry when you talk about their Idol. LOL! Anyhow, “Logan”…the playoffs are a different story then the regular season (obviously). The Lakers may get past the Jazz…they may not. But the Jazz are far more disciplined then the Nuggets and it will not be as easy to get passed them. I just don’t think they are as dominate as their bandwagon fans try to make them and they aren’t coming out the West, at least this year. If they did right now, they would get killed by the Celtics (who has owned them) or the Pistons. I’m laughing that the Lakers fans actually think they are getting a title this year, especially when they said Bynum is defenitly out now for the playoffs. And “Hursty” yeah it was a joke about Kobe and his assist.

Apr.24 at 7:18 am

purba says:
Whoa, everyone hates Stephen A. Why does nobody mention J-Whitlock? Oh, because nobody bothers to read him. Ups.

Apr.24 at 7:20 am

Logan says:
yeah Gil needs to put in work and not jack up 30 footers. LeBron has taken it personally….the Cavs have not been pressured yet, so i really hope Washington makes a series out of this…

Apr.24 at 7:24 am

Logan says:
Jason, obviously the playoffs are a different story than the regular season (duh?)…teams turn it up a notch….point I was making is Kobe had those numbers on a well balanced scoring attack. The Jazz are good, the Lakers are better. And to compare the Jazz and Nuggets discipline is a waste of time…
We all know that the road to the finals will be extremely tough…I think LA has done great without Bynum, have a momentum and chemistry. They may or may not win the title, but its going to be fun to watch…..

Apr.24 at 7:26 am

Jason says:
@ Logan, I was joking about the street cred as well…but as well as Kobe played tonight, maybe he should just shut his mouth and just play the game as well, because he started to just look bush league after a while with his antics tonight. As great of a b-ball player he is, he just fails at life.

Apr.24 at 7:26 am

Logan says:
@Purba - i think most people think Stephen A is a tool, but they end up watching his crap anyway….

MVP? it´s too soon, but there´s a guy producing at least 60,5 ppg with a 64% FGM/A, (33,5 ppg + 13,5 apg), 3,5 steals and 4 rebounds; that´s insane, but if CPaul continues playing at that level…

Apr.24 at 7:30 am

Logan says:
@Jason - i don’t think he was over the top….he’s been popping his jersey and showing emotion all season….if someone mouths off at you and you’re beating their ass, you can trash talk all you want. As I was talking with Hurs, I really dont know why they want to rile Kobe up…..you know the rule (JR learnt it the hard way) don’t speak it if you can’t back it…

Apr.24 at 7:30 am

Jason says:
Logan (Kobe is that you?), you seem to be taking this a little personal. If the Lakers make it past the Jazz, great for them. If they don’t, oh well. Either way, with the way the Jazz are playing right now it is not going to be an easy fight, it will probably go to game 7 in that series. Either way, I don’t beleive Lakers aren’t coming out the West…the Celtics or Pistone would have a field day.

Apr.24 at 7:32 am

Hursty says:
houston will make the 2nd round :)

Apr.24 at 7:34 am

Logan says:
@Jason - heh I wish I could ball like Kobe….
and nothing personal, its just that I believe that if you can back up your talk, you can talk….
I agree that it West is tough. But I still believe they are better than the jazz.
We cant sleep on SA or NO or PHX for that matter. As I said, regardless who comes out of the West, its going to be great fun to watch….

FT%, jump shot. Imagine if Amare was as tall and as big as Dwight physically. If he could jump as high as that. This is the age Amare got microfracture, if this is any indication of what he would have done as a 22 year old throught Dwight…. Whoo!

Apr.24 at 7:53 am

Hursty says:
oh yeh… defence. thats important.

Apr.24 at 7:56 am

Logan says:
Amare has a sweet jumpshot….if Amare starts really defending and rebounding, he would be a overall better pick than dwight, even now…

Apr.24 at 7:57 am

Hursty says:
really? he is 2 years older, I’ll give him that.

Apr.24 at 7:59 am

Probably the most entertaining playoffs in a while (and thats saying a lot). I’m certainly not sleeping on the Spurs, Tim Duncan is my favorite player. Don’t nobody want to see Timmy in the playoffs, LOL!

The most interesting series is Spurs/Suns. The only one where a SERIOUS championship contender will be eliminiated. So the biggest information in these playoffs so far is the Spurs mental domination over Phoenix. With Duncan, TP and Gino is their best playoff shape, i think only the Lakers and Celtics can rivalize with the defending champs. But none of them have a guard who can defend on Parker, and this positive matchup might be the key for San Antonio.

Lz - Cphfinest3 says:
I’m way late here; but Hursty you are really wrong, Kobe is not a better perimeter player than Mike, purer/better shooter for sure, but Mike averaged 30+ on way better field goal shooting + more assists for more than a decade. Adding to this, he did this in the era of handchecking and not in todays NBA with it’s guardfriendly rules. Kobe is a great player, and I’m somewhat of a hater - but people keep forgetting how great Mike was. Go check the stats, Kobe really only started averaging 30′ish for consecutive seasons after they changed the handchecking rules. I’m sorry that I don’t have time to debate this as I’m sure you and others have loads of valid points for the opposite that we could argue about (aswell as a bunch of 13 year-old retards calling out stuff like; “Lz - u efing hatr, KB24 is da man!” just waiting to be set straight), but unfortunately I have work to do today. Anyways will try to check in later. As much as I dislike the guy Kobe was balling last night, respect.

As a Spurs fan I’m officially sweating the Hornets right now. They owned us during the season series (though we weren’t healthy) and TP has a history of shrinking against a ggressive scoring PGs. I really not even sure if I’d want Tony to try to do what he doing against Nash, against CP3. The shooting of Peja and david west are critical factors in the Hornets continued success. But Yong Chris is getting it done. He honestly, is the best PG of the decade right now, not just this year.

Apr.24 at 12:04 pm

Kadavour says:
Mike didn’t play against zone defenses that forced him to shoot above 15 feet. Jordan was mostly a freethrow line down player and that style rocked back in those days, but today’s defenses just don’t permit anyone under 240ish, save Iverson, to play beneath 15 feet. Mike’s game was conducive to the era of basketball he played in, and that style wouldn’t allow him to be the same player he was back then today.

It was funny to see him pull out his mock gun after he drained a 3. I liked how he carried on with it all the way down the floor where he slipped it back into his holster. It did get a little lame when the cameras caught him still blowing at his imaginary gun in a TV timeout, but hey, I guess he earned it last night.

Apr.24 at 1:47 pm

Soupa says:
The MVP of the playoffs so far, would have to be CP3. He’s single handedly dismantling everything Dallas does on the defensive end. I normally would pick Kobe because he’s the best player on my favorite team, but although he’s averaging 40 pts a game right now, he’s doing it with an entire team effort. So unless San Antonio can excape the Phoenix series uninjured and then get past New Orleans I do believe the Lakers are still the team to beat.

B Long, the quicker you realize that Kobe is the most fake ass bi*ch with the most talent in the league, the quicker you’ll see him as the NBA’s version of Puff Daddy, Diddy, P Diddy whatever he calls himself today. 10 years ago he was with Shaq (Biggie) at the top of the world and once Shaq left (Biggie passing)Diddy tumbled from the top. Now he’s like Diddy with the Making the Band crew…. young cats he’s molding, putting on the fake swagger and patted backs just like Diddy’s fake-ass fearfullness MTV tries to conjur up. Dude is so good, but give up the dramatics, you look like an as*hole, every time.

Thats great. Ive never seen Kobe cuss out a coach (JVG & Karl) after they dared to question him, stand over an opponent and cuss him out (Ewing) after dunking on him, or promise to score 35 in a half after being embarrassed by another (Smith). I could keep going but its pointless. If all this outrage is over a fake pistol and a jersey pop then youre just reaching anyway. If Kobe would have just shrugged or pumped his fist hed have been a biter. Right? And again, show me a game where KG DOESNT pop his jersey. Then show me one person who consistently criticizes him for it. This is silly.

Apr.24 at 3:50 pm

Myles Brown says:
Has Kobe ever punched anyone in the nuts during a game? Just wondering. And Im not standing up for his actions out of blind loyalty, Im just amused that you could get so riled up over something so insignificant. Hater.

Apr.24 at 3:53 pm

Eboy says:
Sir Brown, you are correct, this is silly. As I put in my original post (twice I think) Kobe is fantastic as a player. That’s all that should matter. I didn’t go the Mike route, you chose to. Again, he can’t escape the comparisons, even his supporters do it. KG is fantastic too, but I also son’t love his scream fests, but that’s just me. I also dislike Wade’s crying after each touch by a defender too, but that’s just me.

*don’t, sorry. And the word hater left my vocabulary about 12 years ago, so it’s not really bothersome. Oh, I don’t think Kobe’s punched anyone in the balls, but direct elbows to defenders faces because of contested jumpers seemed to be the norm for a while, no?

Apr.24 at 4:04 pm

Myles Brown says:
“I didn’t go the Mike route, you chose to.” Really? Reading is fundamental. AllenP made a Jordan comparison which you so eagerly co-signed on and used as another opportunity to begrudingly acknowledge Kobes talent before going into another diatribe about his personality. Which was immediately followed up with “And in actuality, Kobe’s on the court persona is now more Reggie than Mike, so there’s that.” I didnt say sh*t until then. Youre entitled to your opinions, but I reserve the right to point out the facts. And I only pointed out the nut punching to make the point that no matter who you compare Kobe to, that person has their flaws also. It doesnt work to try and denigrate him by exalting someone else.

Apr.24 at 4:10 pm

Eboy says:
You’d make a poor lawry, Mr. Brown. My “Thank you Allen” comment was actually directed at his sarcastic statement re: the persona of the Nuggets. My “He’s more like Reggie than Mike” comment was an aside to my own evaulation, there was no comarison made to their respective games. Just saying. You’ve made it pretty clear that people like me take this way too over the line, but you seem to go there as well in your insults, so it’s hard to understand your logic if you do the same thing you seem to dislike so much.

Apr.24 at 4:19 pm

Myles Brown says:
I would make a poor seasoning salt. But I can read and comprehend. And if your comment was thanking Allen re: the Nuggs persona then why didnt you mention them at all before going into your spiel about Kobe being a fake b*tch? Doesnt make much sense to me and theres not a lot of room for interpretation. And thats my point, theres never any evaluation of Kobes game from you that isnt overshadowed by a mountain of contempt. I honestly would just ignore it, but since you were so concerned about the ignorance on this site growing with each passing day and are committed to revealing the truth to those who live lives of lies then I thought Id help. Its not hate, just the facts. And nothing that Ryan wouldnt do for Bron.

Apr.24 at 4:24 pm

Eboy says:
I know you hated making that comparison, Myles. :) And just because we are nitpicking, look at the structure of my comment. My “thank you Allen” was put by it’s lonesome on it’s own line. I guess I should have referenced it, but really didn’t think it was a big deal. Also, since you must have seen my comment re: the state of the comments, you also noticed that I didn’t jump in with some dazzling Mike stats or put downs of the guys touting Kobe over Mike. I just put one vague line out, and let others have their fun. And TRUST ME, I have 100 times more love for Mike than you can imagine, so it’s not really conducive for me to battle every dude that puts Mike in a time capsule and leaves his legacy there.

Apr.24 at 4:29 pm

B. Long says:
Kobe is not a perfect human being and nobody here is trying to say that. Every dude in the league has some kind of character flaw that is gonna rub people the wrong way. I don’t hear anyone bitching about CP3 yelling at a future HOFer and telling him that he can’t guard him. The bottom line is this is about basketball. Period. Its not about what did or didn’t happen in Colorado, its not about whether AI really pulled a gun on his wife, its not about who has the most drug dealing gang members rolling in there posse. Its about what happens on the court. Out there Kobe is untouchable and AI is an undiputed legend but when players ( Zach Randolph, Melo right now) don’t produce on the court it will always call attention to the negative issues off it.

Kobe’s offcourt personality is similar to Puffy (remember the time?), that I’ll give. He tries too much, I get it. The problem with making a hiphop/basketball comparison is the talent definition part. Kobe’s game has substance. If substance in hiphop is defined by making lots of money and making teens scream with a bunch of nothing-to-do-with-music-stuff, Puffy has talent. If talent is measured by good, original, innovative music with even a resemblance of worthy lyrics, Puffy has never had it. Which, consequently, is the biggest problem in hiphop today. Yeah, I’m a so-called “purist”. I thought late-nineties were bad until present time happened.

I think people just found it amusing, trying to figure what Kobe was doing. A variation on the gooseneck hold? My hand is too hot to return to it’s normal form? And then it hits you: Ohhh it’s a gun! Nice!
Question though… he slips the gun back into the holster, but AFTER that, he’s blowing at the smoke? His editing guys need to tighten the production up a bit and the next time around will just be dandy.
