Josh Howard gets high in the offseason.

In an interview with Michael Irvin (!!!) on Dallas’s ESPN radio affiliate, Mavs All-Star Josh Howard admitted to smoking marijuana in the offseason. He went on to say that “I think that everybody in the media world and in the sports world knows that NBA players do smoke marijuana.” While this is true, I’m not sure whether it was a great idea to bring it up on the radio during the playoffs.
Of course the way the Mavs have been playing against the Hornets, Josh will be free to start blazing sooner rather than later.

So what? the only thing I have a problem with is that he was lumping the whole league as weed smokers - the league has enough “image problems” already. Although you don’t hear people talk about Hollywood’s image problem and we all know a lot of those starlets and actors are doing a LOT of coke and much more lethal stuff, and at least half of the reporters who will be asking Howard about his comments after the game have smoked weed (and probably still smoking) themselves.

Honestly I think part of this Josh wanting out of Dallas. I know he fu(king hated the trade they made this year and he has kinda had one foot out the door since they traded Marques Daniels who was his homie. He knows this team isn’t going to get any better as is and he wants to get out of town while he is still young enough to establish himself somewhere else. He really fu(ked up by implicating the whole league though. You don’t want to be the Jose Caneseco of the NBA…not a good look.

I think Henry’s article at truehoop is spot on. The fact is that he (Henry) learned as much in an interview with Howard a year ago and published it then. And sure, maybe Howard generalized, but it is silly to think that no one else in the league smokes…be realistic.

I think any job where you get to take at least 3 months off every year, you should be allowed to smoke as long as you stop around two weeks before you go back to work. So this includes any pro athletes, and teachers.

I clicked on the espn.com poll question asking whether it “bothered” me to know that an NBA player would smoke weed in the offseason. I was happy to see 75 percent of the voters said no. Perhaps this outpouring of common sense will be noticed by those in positions of authority. I mean, it won’t, but it’d be nice.

I’m pretty sure alot of guys smoke weed in the NBA and that the leagues testing policy isn’t up to par either. But I don’t understand why J-5 would admit to this stuff and be put on blast on ESPN. Honestly, Josh grew up in my hometown of winston, we are same age but I never knew him. However, everyone that hoops knows that Josh smokes, and I bet if any of you grew up with or around any NBA player, you know some things about them.
