There have apparently been 200 coaching changes since Sloan was named the Jazz’s head coach.

Word, I was gonna say Bobby Cox has him beat, but you’re right Sloan’s been there since ‘88. Damn.

Apr.21 at 2:31 pm

Jj (the real one!) says:
And let’s not forget Sloan’s assistant Phil Johnson… former coach of the year and all! Also been there since 88… crazy right? you’d think someone would’ve snatched him up…

Holiday says:
Why mess with success, one losing season in like 20 aint bad especially that one coming practically right after losing two of the 50 greatest players and future hall of famers! you know the all-time steals and assist’s leader and the second all-time scorer!

FLUXLAND says:
Also the longest tenured head coach with the same franchise in all of the major professional sports without ever winning the grand prize? A quarter of a century with the franchise and nothing? Where’s the FIRE SLOAN signs? Where’s the fan organized rallies and parades with giant cardboard pink slips? OH..its Utah.. nevermind.

Joe says:
Jerry Sloan was actually fired 12 years ago, Larry Miller has just been too scared to tell him. Rightfully so.

Apr.21 at 3:18 pm

Holiday says:
Wow FLUXLAND plenty of division chips a couple western coference championships oh and a couple finals appearences against the quote unquote Greatest player of all time and one of if not the best team of all time you know the bulls!

Apr.21 at 3:18 pm

RV says:
he should win coach of the year just for tanking the last game against the spurs, best move of the year

Apr.21 at 3:20 pm

Holiday says:
Seems like he’s done pretty damn good and the the whole finals thing can you blame him for not getting it done against MJ????????

Apr.21 at 3:23 pm

Holiday says:
Strategy bud why play San Antonio at full strength when you can play a team that’s not as good and even at that is depleted no Yao not Skip (Rafer Alston) seems like the smart thing to do oh and don’t forget they held the Spurs to a franchise low 64 like a week before!!!

Hursty says:
Co sign RV. unfortunately.

Apr.21 at 3:49 pm

FLUXLAND says:
Holiday..yes i can.. MJ took 6 rings not 20. All that stuff is nice.. get ya in the HOF.. but you really think he sleeps well at night with his naked figer..I’m sure he would trade all that for one ring. Also, its a team sport.. this is not golf.. or tennis.

Apr.21 at 3:58 pm

Hursty says:
Skiles= bucks coach.

Apr.21 at 4:05 pm

Hursty says:
no joke.

Apr.21 at 4:35 pm

Jj (the real one!) says:
Sloan is the ultimate winner. I’m sure he wouldn’t sleep peacefully even with 10 rings in his hands… I actually want Utah to win it all just because of Jerry Sloan. He deserves it…

Apr.21 at 5:00 pm

The Biz says:
He still hasn’t one a ring

Apr.21 at 5:15 pm

John E. Sanford says:
Ring or no ring, Jerry Sloan is the man. Besides, what does it really matter that he hasn’t won a title. Seriously? He has had a great life and got to live his dream playing professionally and then coaching professional. That’s being around hoops your entire life. I tell you one thing, he hasn’t won a ring from a lack of desire or effort. Believe that sh*t…

Apr.21 at 6:05 pm

Kevin says:
everyone remotely involved with or even in tune with the NBA gives Jerry Sloan the most UTMOST respect.. nothing else needs to be said, he just gets it done.

Apr.21 at 7:27 pm

RV says:
the only problem is, his consistent philosophy just may be the reason he never gets a ring, since the 90s the formula has been the same, pick and roll with a PF and PG, scrappy role players, shooters, and its been pretty damn good so far, but always just short, hopefully one day it gets him a ring

Apr.21 at 9:04 pm

FLUXLAND says:
Thats my point RV.. you would think somewhere in there within those 25 years someone would have said.. Gee, maybe we should try something different. But then again it is Utah.. no one really cares about contending as long as there is quality product on the floor, no scandals and the franchise is making money. I ring would just be icing on the cake.. its not the ultimate goal.

Apr.21 at 9:32 pm

The Promise says:
i think the jazz are gonna sweep the rockets…i can smell it

Apr.21 at 10:39 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
“No one really cares about contending”? Seriously? The Jazz were in the Western Conference Finals just last year, made back-to-back Finals 10 years ago, and played in three more Western Conference Finals before that. Sloan’s led the Jazz to 11 50-plus win seasons and just ONE sub-.500 one. Stop hating.

Apr.22 at 1:07 am

Hursty says:
Fu(k Sloan and his dirty pick n rolls!!!!

Apr.22 at 1:21 am

Holiday says:
All I was saying is how can you say he should have been fired after all that success, without it the Jazz would be in another state or would have gone under not to acredit all that to Sloan but it helped!

dacre says:
I wish Jerry Sloan was my father…. I’m going to write a song about the man. Check out my page… ^_^

Apr.22 at 8:00 am

FLUXLAND says:
Russ, what I was trying to say, and I am assuming here..is that the fans (unlike in the concrete jungle of NYC) would not and do not call for the guys head every year because they don’t win it all every year. They seem to be perfectly happy with the fact its a profitable organization that puts scandal/risk free players on the floor. C’mon, the Jazz are like the boy scouts of the L. Participating is what’s important not winning it seems. I don’t hate.. my glass in not always half full like everyone else’s.

Allenp says:
I think Jerry Sloan is arguably the best coach in the league, and one of the best of all-time. I love his offense.
