Did Shaq Run Stan Van Gundy Out of Town?

by Marcel Mutoni

When Shaquille O’Neal burned a couple of ex-teammates last week while discussing his last days in Miami, he seems to have offended not just everyone in the Miami Heat organization, but now it appears that the people whose job it is to cover the team are no longer big fans of the Diesel.

Since he made his scathing comments, columnists and radio personalities have taken turns ripping into the big fella, and now some people are airing all of the dirty laundry they can get their hands on. The latest is that Shaq - not Pat Riley, as previously assumed by just about everyone - was responsible for Stan Van Gundy’s infamous exit from Miami during the team’s lone title season.

“Shaq often disrespected Stan,” the reporter disclosed. “Sometimes it was done playfully. More likely it was meant contemptuously.”

According to the reporter, Shaq would refer to Van Gundy as (porn star) Ron Jeremy, whom he strongly resembles, at least from the neck up.

The Ron Jeremy joke has been beaten into the ground so much that you’d think that Stan would be immune to it by now, but I digress.

The folks in Miami can say what they want, and they’re more or less justified, but at the end of the day, Shaq stays winning. His new team is kicking butt, he’s going back to the Playoffs, and the Heat are … well, they’re the Heat.

Yes, Shaq also masterminded 9/11, too. STFU, jealous morons. The Miami media is horrid to begin with. Concentrate on the teams future not the past. The Heat knew what they were getting into when they brought Shaq in. The Heat got a title out of it. It’s way more than what they have right now, right. How’s Shawn Marion working for them?

Shaq has a pattern: He arrives with great fanfare, becomes a fans’ favorite, the team rallies around him, they win. Then issues arise between him and another star player or with the head coach. You hear of rumors that he’s not getting along. He stops working out and decides to takes parts of the season off, which leads to more fighting. A coach might be fired and replaced with a friendlier guy. Eventually he gets traded to another team, where he begins to throw his previous team and coaches under the bus. He arrives at the new place with great fanfare where he proceeds to pronounce he’ll win rings there. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yup, nothing nice to say.

And I got nothing but love for Shaq as a player and a personality, but he’s far more coldblooded than people are willing to admit. He wants things his way and has, for the most part, gotten them.

Myles, you need to speak up. Who cares if Shaq is winning now? He’s playing with best offensive power forward in the game right now and a top five point guard! Lets review. Shaq has played with Penny, Kobe, Wade, and now Amare and Nash. That is an amazing string of teammates. Don’t forget Nick Van Exel and a young Eddie Jones. Shaq was great in his younger days, but let’s not give him too much credit. However, I think it’s shady that the media decided to air the laundry now, although the Van Gundy accusations are old news. The journalists should be getting more flak because it appears that they let their personal feelings dictate their coverage, which flies in the face of all their claims of objectivity.

Shaq is the quintessential coat tail rider. Sometimes he’s so heavy, he rips the tails right off as he gets dragged along. Then he finds a new coat tail to ride.

Tombomb15 says:
Shaq is one of the all time greats……..thats all there is to say, he has never ridden coat tails Reggie!!! He is a force still. He is a massive distraction for a defence, those spaces for wade are now alot harder to find (well before he decided to end his season early) And check how Amare is filling them!! The Suns frontcourt can barely be stopped!! Lay off Shaq!!!!!

Shouldn’t it be a compliment to be compared to Ron Jeremy?

Corey says:
It’s a shame Shaq has to do this, he’s a great player and hilarious too. It sounds like he’s worried people will blame the Heat’s record on him so we wants to pass the buck, so people will still think he’s the greatest. The Heat traded him to a contender, so I don’t see how he can really be that mad at them- he just wants to blame others for the Heat losing, that’s the real issue. Shaq tends to diss the old and praise the new, it’s his pattern. Before Phil Jackson was the best coach then Riley now D’Antoni. He also tends to treat people based on rank, i.e. treat Riley with respect but not Van Gundy. Van Gundy is an excellent coach and got a raw deal.

Shaq would have never won anything had it not been for Kobe or D-Wade… We all remember what happened when he played against Hakeem! Shaq’s old, fat and washed up… He should’a just gone into professional wrestling since he was never a good ball player. He just stands under the basket and bullies smaller people… Riiiiiiiiight… Diesel’s the best to ever do it at the 5. M.D.E. Let the haters keep hatin…

Say whatever u want about Shaq, but at his prime he was truly the most dominant ever. He got older but he was smart enough to adjust and win a ring with the Heat and now it seems like he will do the same in Pheonix. Deal with it~!

I used to root for the big fellow but after the classless remarks I found myself rooting against him. I’m glad you lost Shaq, not so much for Phoenix cause i like Nash. Shaq you suck! I’m dissapointed in you.
