Confusion, and Perhaps Tension, in Golden State

Don Nelson says he benched Baron Davis in the Warriors’ most important game of the season because his start point guard was “terrible”. Davis’s agent, along with everyone else, is still confused by the benching.

Seems like Nellie had his flight back to Hawaii already booked.

Obviously, Nellie is not planning on coming back next season.

I heard Baron did a little too much “celebrating” of his birthday the night before and was a little hungover…..

well let’s see, Baron and his beard went 2 for 13 in 17 minutes and got torched repeatedly by Nash… while he was out the Dubs played defense and went up by 11. I’d say Nellie played this one right.

it was a good card to play during that decisive run that put the warriors up 11 points (after being down by 14 at the half), but he’s your star player and when things weren’t looking right, you have to give it another shot. the bench was great at taking the league but were clueless when they had to defend it.

Nellie said there wasn’t a chance in hell they were going to make the play-offs at that point and he wanted to see how the two younguns would play. They’ll both be back next season, I mean Baron and Nellie (but also Kosta and Brandon, and Marco too.) Some fools already have dreams of a draft day trade of Baron for Derrick Rose. Nice way to thank the two guys who lifted the Warriors out of the trash bin. If Baron drank too much the night before, screw it, it didn’t change the outcome of the season. The only terrible thing going on is the Cavaliers having a number four seed in the east with a worse record than the Warriors and with a much easier schedule.

I can’t really fault Nellie for pulling him the first time, but I think I would’ve put him back in once I got up.

Sesa says:
1. Warriors weren’t in the playoff.
2. Baron’s struggling.
3. The risk of injury. It’s a good move since Baron had a bad track record with injuries.

i’d like to remind everyone that warriors started the season 0-6 because stephen jackson was penalized for shooting at the sky. not saying the suspension caused the team a playoff berth though.

Tim Duncan says:
I’m thinking GS needs a bit of remodeling. Get rid of Davis, Harrington, Pietrus(or whatever his name is)and Barnes. Then trade Jackson for one of Toronto’s point guards, and you have a line up of Ford, Ellis, Somebody, Wright and Biedrins. It’s not play-off worthy, but if you bring in a nice young swingman, couple years from now that’s looking pretty nice. Dreams are fun.

He was terrible first of all…he couldnt throw it in the ocean if he was standing on the beach in the New Orleans game or the Denver game…Monta Ellis carried them in those 2 games…he averaged lik 26 in those 2 games i think… Baron apparently felt the pressure and crumbled…

Shooter#9 - Brasil says:
you know what, if he realy said that, i was expecting something realy stupid from him i wil never forget when he couldn’t deal with the team problems and trade Webber for Donyell… one of the most bizarres in the history that took away golden state’s chance of beeing something…
remember webber, sprewell, hardaway, mullin, owens, …
oh god.

Dacre says:
I can’t understand why Baron was made the scape goat in a situation where, the damage had been done…undone (by reclaiming the lead) and then mysteriously not taken advantage of…sure your best player fails to lead the team well out of the gate but surely he had something in the tank to hold onto the momentum….? We’ll never know and now the Warriors as a whole have to really go into a lengthened off-season with ALOT of questions that need answering.

corey washington says:
Great coaches sometimes get huge egos–like lenny wilkins–got rid of dominique for danny manning, a player who fit his bland style of play. Huge mistake. Baron davis put golden state back on the map last year. His performances will go down in the books as great (just like Dominique against Boston) how could you not give your team the best chance of winning? As soon as golden State lost the lead, B. Diddy should have been in the game. Coaches should have their pay docked when they make bonehead decisions.

Apr.16 at 11:44 pm

Dacre says:
I’ve re-read through the piece there and now I see it….Don Nelson is out of touch. He doesn’t trust his best player and this will mean one of these two won’t be here next season.
You heard it here first.

ciolkstar says:
Baron played like garbage. They probably would’ve missed the playoffs even if they were to have won that game. B Diddy for Derrick Rose would be sweet for gState if Nellie would play rookies. Monta AND DRose would be a riciculously sick/young backcourt

ciolkstar says:
Golden State’s gameplan over the last 3 weeks: Don’t guard anyone and take bad shots (preferably three’s) How’d they miss the playoffs again?
