Elton Brand Offers Clippers Fans a Glimmer of Hope

by Marcel Mutoni

You really have to feel for fans of the Los Angeles Clippers: After getting teased with what having a good basketball team can feel like two years ago, they’ve been reminded by the Gods who they’re really cheering for, as their team has reverted back to the crushing suckitude of years past.

Not only are their envied Staples neighbors enjoying a wildly successful season, but the head coach and team owner have routinely expressed their mutual hatred for one another through the press all season long, and there’s a chance that a good chunk of the team’s key players could bolt this summer.

Elton Brand, though, threw the long-suffering fans a bone by saying he might stick around for the future. Well, maybe.

Brand, who will earn $16.4 million next season if he stays, spoke of coming back to play late this season as a building block toward next year. He stopped just short of giving a full endorsement to the team.

“As long as everything is done fair, everything on the up and up . . . as far as negotiations or value or whatever it is that agents and owners go through, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem” to come back, Brand said.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the organization or an indication of the star forward’s burning desire to stay on the team, but it’s better than nothing. And that’s pretty much the only thing Clipper fans can hang their hat on these days.

Hey, why not move the Clippers to Oklahoma (or Vegas or, better yet, some other planet) and let the Sonics stay in Seattle?

if he signs with an East team, he immediately becomes the 2nd best PF in conference and will propel whichever team he’s on into a conference champ contender. question is where.

The list of NBA players who first say they wanted to stay with their current team prior to then saying they want to test the market is inexhaustible. Gilbert Arenas, etc., etc.

@albie, theres KG (obviously), Antawn Jamison, does marion still play the 4? or is he a proper 3 now?, Dwight Howard still rolls over to the 4 (but mostly 5).

Are you sure about that, King?

albie1kenobi says:
i always think of antawn should be more like a 3 in the nba, but he did used to play at the 4 (not to mention being a national player of the year along the way). good point. same goes for marion. and i see dwight as shaq part 2 so he’s a center. (i have a hunch he’s going to be better than shaq when it’s all said and done because of his work ethic.)
elton brand to me is the prototypical pf, so he gets ranked right behind KG.

Brand make’s the Clip’s a good team but out west you gotta be great, talk’s of him in Miami he could save that team or Washington and move Jamison to the 3 or trade him and with the return of Agent 0 a new east contender emerges!

Mar.10 at 2:24 am

Holiday says:
Houston might be the favorite next year if they got him, and denver would move up the latter and be better on defense then they could trade Martin or Nene!

Hey, look at the soon to be free agents in the center spot: Daweed Harrison, Kwame “MJ is gonna Kill me” Brown, Scott Pollard, Jamaal “I played 1 good year” Magloire, Robert Swift, Calvin Booth, Primoz Brezec…, it doesn´t mind if Brand leaves the Clips, they can get a interior force in that market (I hope grandpas Mutombo and Mourning won´t retire)

Son of Shawn says:
I´m waiting to see the contracts of those guys next year, and the troubles of their teams with the luxury tax

Hmm sounds like he wants to earn the 1st 200 million dollar contract? It cost ALOT of crumb these days to keep decent players on suckful teams.
