Shawn Marion Gets His Own Trade News from ESPN
Ever since it went down, we’ve spent most of our time talking about Shaq’s move to Phoenix. But what about Shawn Marion? Glad you asked.
It turns out that the Matrix was watching TV when he first learned of the stunning trade.
“I was shocked at first,” Marion said Thursday night from Miami, where he is scheduled for a physical today. “It happens. Everything happens for a reason. We could get deep into it, but what’s done is done. I wish everybody in Phoenix good luck.”
The only thing worse than finding out you’ve been traded from the team with one of the best records in the League to its bottom feeder, is learning about it from SportsCenter.
Of course, Marion isn’t even in a position to complain. He did, after all, ask to be traded before the season began. A small warning before it took place, I’d imagine, might have been appreciated.

In spite of his bellyaching leading to this deal, they really should have mentioned it to him. Then again, it looked like it was leaked to the press before they were sure they were pulling the trigger, since shaq was told by some member of his staff on the way out of the doctor’s office.

I have been trying not to put in my input on this whole ordeal, but I must. I have three things to say.
1. Marion’s shot is extremely ugly.
2. Shaq’s body is extremely ugly.
3. The only good thing for either team out of this trade was the fact now the heat are free of a lot of cap room.

Marion didnt deserve the courtesy. He bitched and moaned the last season, now he’s gone to be another sidekick. Anyone remember the old Sportscenter ads? Star athlete watching Sportscenter at various times in the day. They print a pic of Marion at home, eating cereal, surprised as hell as he learns about the trade.

They need a center, D-Mac, without question. The option they may try is Elton Brand, if they can persuade him to opt out, to play a small lineup with him at center. Otherwise, they need to look for someone who can.

I think it was a better trade for Miami then it was for the suns. Granted there is a shot of them winning the tittle if Shaq can provide D and not cry about touches. but in the end Miami has the brighter future because they have a superstar in Wade and they freed up a lot of salary cap space by moving Shaq’s big contract.Marion though had a lot of reason to beef the guy has been one of the best all around players in this league since he has been drafted and barely ever gets love and has gone through 3 point guards how many different coaches and how many different rosters in PHNX and he continues to get no love out there but by people who truely know what this game is about … i see a nice winning streak in Miami for the rest of this season…and maybe Micheal Beasley in a heat uniform next season

russ - it’s actually still he said she said. jeremy - because marion would have hurt them in the future as well by walking after this year. they are renting shaq for a year most likely, then probably pulling a deal next year for someone else with the expiring contract and keep recycling this formula.

Allenp. Thats why I made the comment about it leaking. He may have heard that the talks were serious, and as soon as it was official (before the physical was passed), Kerr may have called. That way no one is lying, and both are right. I don’t know, but thats a possible scenerio. This deal was out there real quick, especially since the Lakers managed to pull of their deal so silently by contrast. Normally, you hear stuff for weeks, and evenually something happens. I think Riley was cheesed that it leaked, which is why he wouldn’t answer any media questions even though it looked like the deal was imminent.

As over as Shaq’s career is, and I hate to admit it because the guy is great, this was a horrible trade for Miami. Not the getting rid of Shaq part, because they needed that, but the Marion part. Marion is a great player, I even have his jersey, but his game is limited to three things rebounding, dunking, shooting weird threes from the corner. Without Nash, his numbers will go down, could you imagine what a Marion iso would look like?!?!?
