Kobe Bryant Out of Three-Point Shootout, Questionable for ASG

by Russ Bengtson

It’s worse than we thought.

Kobe Bryant’s right pinkie is, to put it in medical terms, really messed up. To be more specific:

There is a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament and avulsion fracture, in which a small bone fragment had been pulled off by a tendon.

Yuck.

Doctors are recommending surgery, but that would mean he’d miss up to six weeks, and he’d prefer to wait until after the Olympics. Not to mention with center Andrew Bynum still out, they Lakers would have to trade for Vince Carter or something. So for now he’ll just try treatment, rest (Dirk Nowitzki is replacing him in the three-point shootout) and hope.

There is, of course, another option.

Russ Bengtson says:
Because he won in 2006, was in the finals last year, and is already in New Orleans?

So, how much for Kobe’s severed pinky on eBay?

Russ Bengtson says:
If they DO need to name a replacement for the actual game, it had better be a Warrior. And CP3 had better take the starting spot.

Is it just me or is this just one of those patented Mamba Moments where he shouldn’t even play but he comes out, drops 35, builds a home for Katrina victims at half and then takes home the MVP?

Marcel Mutoni says:
im not too worried. he’s a tough sob. remember: a few years back, he busted up his right shoulder, but continued to play and shot mostly with his left hand.

The bright side is now I have a built-in-excuse when Kobe doesn’t play well!

Whatev. He wasn’t going to win it anyways. Why not Ray Allen, though? His shot is pretty even when he misses. I’d watch 25 straight misses by Allen over any other fool.

Krayzie Bone says:
I guess Dirk for convenience, but he’s shooting 29 percent from 3 this year (probably the reason his scoring average is down). How about picking someone in at least the 73 players in the NBA better than Bryant from 3 this year, instead of the 115th best player in the league. And I say this as someone who really likes Dirk. The NBA, where lazy happens.

Hell, half those guys are probably already vacationing in countries with no extradition laws. They’re pretty much stuck picking from the All-Star pool. If the L was smart, they’d pick alternates when they pick the original group just in case something like this happened. Or f it, just let Shaq do it.

Krayzie Bone says:
Shaq would be fun to watch as a replacement. But seriously, they could put Mo Pete in. He’s doing better than dirk from 3.

Kyle Korver a.k.a. “Ashton Kutcher” should replace him.

Yeah but Russ, Dirk doesn’t even shoot three’s anymore

I wonder if Kobe might have his finger surgery without telling anyone he’s about to go have an operation?

I thought they said on TNT earlier that Dirk will be replacing Steve Nash at 3 point shoot-out? So now will he be replaying Kobe too? Both? Apparently Steve dropped out of it too, for whatever reason, can’t remember now, I think something to do with his hand.

This is one of those situations where Id compare Kobe to a certain someone, but I wont. Even though I just did.

If Kobe Bryant doesn’t play in the ASG, then Manu Ginobili should definitely take his spot, considering his last performances. Just ask some of the Cavs’s fans what they think about that…

JAX JAX JAX. BARON BARON BARON. Kobe is a warrior and he should be replaced by one. Of course, the damn league might make him play in the game anyway….. argh!

Kobe’s old school. He plays hurt all the time. At least 90 percent of guys in the League would miss three weeks with a sprained ankle.

Thank god! now mcgrady takes his spot in the ASG. and rashard lewis takes his place in he 3-point shootout!!!!!

Food for thought: Lebron sprains a finger on his non-shooting hand, and misses two weeks. Team loses every game but ‘Bron’s stats stay nice. Kobe dislocates (and tears ligaments) on his shooting hand and toughs it out. PPG, FG%, and TO numbers take a hit, but he keeps playing tough D and distributing, and the team keeps winning. I’m just sayin’…..
