Knicks Bickering, Depressed
The New York Knicks aren’t a sinking ship anymore. No, that would be an insult to the Titanic and all other ships that have ever sunk. The once proud franchise is currently at the very bottom of the ocean, digging through to the Earth’s core.
Yesterday in Toronto, they experienced yet another humiliating episode on their own bench: A frustrated Quentin Richardson got into his teammates’ faces as they walked back to the pine, kicking and screaming, and he was promptly ignored as the Knicks were easily beaten by the Raptors.
“We were losing, I was frustrated,” Richardson said after bolting the locker room early. “I was just trying to motivate the guys. It comes a point where I get so aggravated, I scream and yell.”
In the locker room afterwards, Eddy Curry sounded like a man with a broken spirit.
“Losing is the part that is killing me,” Eddy Curry said. “It’s tough to deal with. It’s something I can’t get used to.”
Never fear, Eddy. You guys only need to win 92% of your remaining games to reach the .500 mark, and then you’ll be right back in this thing!

its hard to say fire Isaiah when its clear that dolan is just as at fault. I say this not as an original observation, but with the understanding that the knicks have become the leagues refuse bin. Ricky davis and Ron Artest need to get traded here to complete it, and David Lee needs to leave. Balkman has heart, so he can leave too.

Russ Bengtson says:
You can say Dolan’s equally at fault, but all he really did is hand Isiah the keys to the franchise with an unlimited budget and a hands-off attitude. It obviously hasn’t worked out–to the extent that the Knicks may be the worst-run major-market franchise of the past million years–and Dolan has been mystifyingly silent and inactive. HOWEVER, isn’t this, results aside, what we want from our team owners? Hire basketball people, let them make the personnel decisions, and just be the guy that CTC? The funniest part, to me, is that Isiah didn’t make any deadline deals this year when it was so readily apparent that he HAD to. There will absolutely be a fistfight on the bench before this ends. Badly.

“What does a guy have to do to get fired around here?”
Feb.25 at 3:28 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Keeping Curry, Randolph, Q, and Nate together for 26 more games should make Isiah and Dolan liable for the same charges that knocked out Mike Vick. Assuming Malik Rose doesn’t kill everybody first.

Sometimes I almost can’t believe this is all happening. I’ve been following the NBA for quite a while now, and I can’t remember any team that was a mess like this one. I mean, the Blazers had their troubles, but never ever have I witnessed something like this. I do feel bad for them, especially for the guys who actually are still trying to win.

If I were their general manager, my first priority would be to let every single contract expire. Even if there are some good players, David Lee and such, they may be so damaged by the whole experience that they may never play well as a Knick again. They need an overhaul and purging more drastic and more immediate than the Blazers have. You guys are almost sad, but I AM sad.

I believe Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford are the two most losingest active players in the NBA (percentage-wise) so really, EC should be used to it by now.

Feb.26 at 4:56 am
Russ Bengtson says:
I feel like Jamal cares, at least. He’s logging major minutes (second in the L to AI, I believe), and while he may not always make the best decisions, I believe that’s due to a complete lack of coaching. He was actually starting to make progress under LB. As for Curry, he’s just a lost case. I’m not convinced he cares about the game, except as a way to get rich. He hasn’t learned the first thing about rebounding, or defending, or the simple act of boxing out or playing help defense, since joining the League. It’s just depressing. Ben’s probably right on winning percentages, too. Hard to imagine who’d be worse, or even come close for that matter. Ricky Davis?

The Heat and the Knicks should play a five-game series for charity this summer, just for old times sake. Bring back all the names–Ewing, Starks, Mason, Oak, LJ, Charlie Ward, P.J. Brown, Timmy Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn. Hell, Zo’s still ON the Heat. Televise it on ESPN and let Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy call it. Not that they’d be biased or anything.

i think, the whole problem started when isaiah got hired, he messed up big time.Dolan messed up because he didn’t reacted in time and let the ship sink.and i mean, it’s not only the problem with EC who’s overpaid, but you still have jerome james and jared jeffries and …. you still have some players who care like crawford. But the biggest problem with a clean up, how do you get rid of al those overpaid contracts??it’ll take years and with isaiah not getting fired, i can still get worse!
