Guess the Grizzlies needed more point guards?

Holy sh*t.

Feb.1 at 4:00 pm

tenorca says:
Bananas! I hate this trade for everyone involved and for the Warriors, who were not involved, but were lustily eyeing the Lakeshow’s playoff spot. Effing bananas. I hate the Lakers.

How come no one else has picked up this story?

Feb.1 at 4:02 pm

greatest deal since a long time ago

Does Bynum head to the bench then?

Feb.1 at 4:05 pm

TADOne says:
Gasol will play PF.

Feb.1 at 4:06 pm

white hot eboy says:
Holly may just have an immaculate conception without a baby in her womb.

Feb.1 at 4:06 pm

Ryan Jones says:
It’s still on on the follower’s website. Bucher, Stein, and their 87 other NBA insiders must be freaking the f*ck out. Or maybe they just can’t publish news that they haven’t “reported” themselves?

Feb.1 at 4:06 pm

its just alex says:
Holy sh*t

Feb.1 at 4:06 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
This is like the Mets getting Santana for nothing.

Feb.1 at 4:07 pm

Bigi says:
Mitch Buchannon!…I mean Kuptchzkack…Go Purple&Gold!!!!

Feb.1 at 4:07 pm

Ryan Jones says:
*not* on the followers website, I mean.

Feb.1 at 4:07 pm

white hot eboy says:
This is actually not a great move for them. Gasol needs the ball to be effective, so does Bynum, so does Kobe. If he had a spot up game it would be different, but butting heads on the blocks is not good for the youing man. And this guy plays less D than Kwame.

Feb.1 at 4:07 pm

TADOne says:
Holly has just checked into a Toronto hospital.

Feb.1 at 4:08 pm

Lz - Cphfinest3 says:
that’s exactly what the lakeshow needed, I hate it. What where grizz thinking? Kwame is a no good, they’re stacked with young pg’s. The draft picks are off course nice, but probably wont be very high if the Lakers start winning.

Feb.1 at 4:08 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Also: The Jason Collins/Kwame Brown frontcourt will be the greatest thing in the history of great things. Clearly, the Grizz will not win another game this season. In fact, I doubt they’d win a seven-game series with their hometown university.

Feb.1 at 4:09 pm

TADOne says:
Memphis has found a post player with worse hands than Milicic. Darko meet Kwame.

Feb.1 at 4:09 pm

fernando says:
Lakers need more support than that, aint no rings this year

Feb.1 at 4:09 pm

Myles Brown says:
Im so happy I think I just shat myself…

Feb.1 at 4:10 pm

TADOne says:
Damn, forget they got Collins too. Memphis is cornering the market on unskilled 7 footers.

Feb.1 at 4:10 pm

Myles Brown says:
I just might bake Kwame a going away cake…

Feb.1 at 4:11 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Whooaaaaa! Great move for the Lakers. Yet, does anyone know why the Grizzlies picked up another point guard?

Feb.1 at 4:12 pm

TADOne says:
Critt can actually play the 2 as well.

Feb.1 at 4:12 pm

Lz - Cphfinest3 says:
Will Navarro demand a trade now?

Feb.1 at 4:12 pm

BETCATS says:
did the Jason Collins trade get finalized get? do i sence a 3 headed Collins Darko Kwame monster who r@pes cheeseburgers after hard games

Feb.1 at 4:13 pm

Dizzle says:
WOW. Sure this may not bring a ring the LA, but they’re one step closer (still at a far distance). The Lakers basically gave away nothing and got someone that was a bit better than average. If you could get rid of Kwame for someone that wasn’t Stro, Collins, someone from the Knicks, or some other useless person, then it’s called a STEAL.

Feb.1 at 4:14 pm

Gerard Himself says:
Dave D’Alessandro said Marc Gasol was traded to the Grizzlies as well. Which would be funny.
But damn, a starting line-up of Fish, Kobe, Odom, Gasol and Bynum will be interesting to watch.

Feb.1 at 4:15 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
If the Grizz get Collins, Darko and Kwame, I’m getting my boys at undrcrwn to make a t-shirt.

Feb.1 at 4:15 pm

Khalid Salaam says:
WOW for the Lakers. ??? for the Grizz

Feb.1 at 4:15 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
EBoy, how is this not a good move for the Lakers?

Feb.1 at 4:15 pm

Lamar says:
YES!

Feb.1 at 4:16 pm

TADOne says:
I like how Lang switched the pics of Gasol.

Feb.1 at 4:16 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
This would have never happened if Jerry West was still alive.

Feb.1 at 4:16 pm

bouncyman says:
whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo go lakers!! go gasol!! when can he play?

Feb.1 at 4:17 pm

BETCATS says:
lang, make them make some draws too, that way when either of the 3 do SOMETHING you can say, i litteraly sh!tted my Kwame’s

Feb.1 at 4:17 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Dizzle - Pau is much better than an average player. He’s a rare talent, actually.

Feb.1 at 4:18 pm

Tom says:
lang: I would buy a dozen of those shirts, i can just picture darko and kwame arguing over who was the bigger bust.

Feb.1 at 4:18 pm

its just alex says:
Didn’t even think of that, Ryan. 35 turnovers a game.

Feb.1 at 4:19 pm

Tom says:
eboy: we’ve got 2 months to worry about those issues when Bynum comes back, man this just came out of nowhere……..I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY I”M USING CAPS FOR THE REST OF MY POSTS

Feb.1 at 4:19 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
The Kwame, Darko, Collins front line is unprecedented. They should absolutely play all three at the same time.

Feb.1 at 4:20 pm

white hot eboy says:
Rynocerous, because the Lakers system is predicated on ball movement and spacing (the triangle is a thing of beauty when run correctly). Bynum, Pau, Odom, and Kobe are all ball controllers or need to be to be effective. How do you space Bynum and Gasol. To use the Heat as an example in better times, Shaq plays post center every play, the pf, UD, is a free throw spot up shooter or a wing jumoer kind of guy. I don’t see Pau doing that at all. That’s the type of PF they need, a bruiser, not a post player who will slow down the offense.

Feb.1 at 4:20 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Lang, put this on your Darko, Collins, Kwame shirt: “Stay Injured”

Feb.1 at 4:21 pm

its just alex says:
That front line will average 10 rebounds, 8 points, and 30 turnovers.

Feb.1 at 4:21 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Also, the Lakers are gonna be mighty thin tonight. I assume Gasol won’t be available. Ronny Turiaf, starting center?

Feb.1 at 4:22 pm

Reggie Evans says:
OMGOMG! Sorry for saying fire Mitch Kupchak. I APOLOGIZE!!!

Feb.1 at 4:22 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Pau’s going to be so happy to be on a playoff-bound team that he’ll probably be willing to fill any role. I think he’ll fit in just fine.

Feb.1 at 4:22 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
That Darko/Kwame/Collins shirt is gonna say “The Three Stooges” on it.

Feb.1 at 4:22 pm

niQ says:
Collins, Darko and Kwame for next cover!

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

Bryan says:
I think the grizz are trying to corner the market on the biggest busts in league history, maybe they can get Tim Thomas and entice Shawn Bradley out retirement.

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

Myles Brown says:
Lawrys! What the f*ck ever. If I could get rid of Kwame Brown and some meaningless picks for an All Star I make that trade 11 outta 10 times…

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

Lang Whitaker says:
@niQ: I’m totally writing that story.

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Just so you guys know, the follower is now reporting that someone named Ovechkin scored four goals to help the Caps beat the Habs (unless it was the other way around…) I think that has something to do with curling. Still nothing on this fairly significant NBA trade, though.

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

white hot eboy says:
I do hope it works out, though, cause it would be nice to have a squad to compete with the Spurs with extra length. And getting rid of Brown is fnatastic, but guess what, the Heat got rid of Toine too and I thought that was going to be a fantastic move for them and you have seen how that has worked out.

Feb.1 at 4:23 pm

Myles Brown says:
And Bynum is the farthest thing from a ball controller on that team. All he does is catch lobs and putbacks…

Feb.1 at 4:24 pm

nick says:
Holy Sh!t. I think people don’t realize how good Pau is. As someone who Has watched Pau when possible/ rocked a very pau-esque hair-beard combo, i think he’s perfect for the triangle. He can hit an 18 footer, fnish with both hands, and work out of the high and low post. Damn. And when bynum gets back….double damn!

Feb.1 at 4:24 pm

TADOne says:
I’ve been tracking to Ryan. Amazing, isn’t it?

Feb.1 at 4:25 pm

Dizzle says:
@Ryne: I agree that he’s an better than average. He is a good player, but techincally he’s not special (yet) since he wasn’t leading the Griz to any wins. He wasn’t dominating the games. Lebron James is special. Pau is better than average. All the Grizz games and highlights I’ve seen are all about the young gunz (Gay, Conley, Lowry) and to an extent, Mike Miller. I actually thought Pau was sitting this season out.

Feb.1 at 4:25 pm

white hot eboy says:
Don’t be mad, Myles, I’ve already told you that Lawry’s makes really good marinades, you don’t need to curse them. And what’s Bodie’s take on this?

Feb.1 at 4:25 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Is Gasol injured? He better pass his physical!

Feb.1 at 4:26 pm

Myles Brown says:
Reggie, I just might have to write Mitch a lengthy apology too…

Feb.1 at 4:26 pm

white hot eboy says:
Well, I guess that’s all Bynum’s going to be able to do now, for sure.

Feb.1 at 4:27 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
I feel bad for Lowry and Navarro. Not only will they lose minutes to Crit (OK, well, maybe not too many), and good luck passing to THAT frontcourt. Mike Conley must be punching himself in the face right now, too.

Feb.1 at 4:27 pm

Reggie Evans says:
There must be a another trade involved! Maybe the Nets are shipping Kidd to Memphis for Crit and draft picks?

Feb.1 at 4:27 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Eboy - I see your point, but I don’t believe the Lakers will need to fit that mold to be successful. It’s true the Phil Jackson teams that won championships did have that “bruiser” PF in Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone. But you also should notice how different the teams were. Point being, a good coach like Phil Jackson can make it work when given enough talent. I think we’ll see a change in how the Lakers play to compensate for Pau’s arrival.

Feb.1 at 4:28 pm

Bryan says:
Gasol can move the ball pretty well , and he’s going to be light years more effective than Brown was in a Laker Uni , even if his numbers dip they will be 15-8 and a block or 2 is a good deal for the Lakers.

Feb.1 at 4:28 pm

TADOne says:
Conley is wondering how he went from Odom to THIS?!

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

Bryan says:
Eboy I explained myself on the other thread.

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

The Best Yet says:
is the Memphis front office retarded or something?

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

peteb80 says:
The unlikeable get unlikeabler…

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

TADOne says:
*Oden I meant

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

its just alex says:
Reggie, I was wondering the same thing. I feel like something else might go down.

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

JohnnyRebel says:
Kobe must be happy as hell.

Feb.1 at 4:29 pm

JohnnyRebel says:
Kobe must be happy as hell.

Feb.1 at 4:30 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@ Reggie - I wouldn’t worry about Gasol not passing his physical. He was a game-time decision for the Grizzlies last game against the Nuggets. And if you ask me, he was sitting out because of these trade conversations.

Feb.1 at 4:30 pm

TADOne says:
They smoke some good sh*t down in Memphis. Ask Elvis.

Feb.1 at 4:30 pm

Bryan says:
F*ck Memphis.

Feb.1 at 4:31 pm

BETCATS says:
shia that made my day

Feb.1 at 4:31 pm

TADOne says:
Rudy Gay wants to go back to UConn.

Feb.1 at 4:31 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
I’m going to watching out for another Kobe YouTube soon…this time in much better spirits.

Feb.1 at 4:32 pm

dOnRummY says:
Damn, I cannot make sense of this from a Memphis perspective, this is as bad or worse then the Vince Carter for Alonzo Mournings salary and a couple of stiffs trade. Somebody email chad ford

Feb.1 at 4:32 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Gay and Conley are definitely checking on their remaining eligibility.

Feb.1 at 4:32 pm

white hot eboy says:
Well the Lakers should be thrilled tonight, so Holly may get all her questions answered. And if she doesn’t know this yet, she’s going to literally sh*t herself as Myles almost did. Holly, dark pants, DARK PANTS!

Feb.1 at 4:33 pm

Joe G says:
Niceeeeeeeee..Now put Odom in a package with farmar for Jason Kidd.. What u think?

Feb.1 at 4:33 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Open question: How much cap room does this give the Grizzlies? They’re definitely rebuilding around a Gay/Conley nucleus. They now have hella draft picks. They should turn it around in five years….;-)

Feb.1 at 4:34 pm

Ben Osborne says:
Russ: West is alive…he apparently orchestrated this deal to make his original team contenders again.

Feb.1 at 4:34 pm

Bryan says:
I don’t Pau is gonna suffer from the Lamar Odom “I don’t want be aggressive with the ball” syndrome. So I think it helps.

Feb.1 at 4:34 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
It makes a LITTLE sense for Memphis–Gasol was obviously dissatisfied and needed to go. And Kwame’s expiring deal will give them some flexibility this summer. Not to mention Crit/Lowry/Navarro gives them some intriguing trade pieces. Now, if they could just find a taker for Brian Cardinal.

Feb.1 at 4:35 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Eboy, you’re ridiculous! :-)

Feb.1 at 4:35 pm

BETCATS says:
No, what we need to do is make a HUGE statue of a Grizzly Bear, with a plack that says Biggest Bust Kwame Darko and Jason Collins

Feb.1 at 4:35 pm

Bryan says:
And also this may help Odom anyway because he will be back at his natural 3 spot.

Feb.1 at 4:36 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Finally. And would you look at the nerve of these motherf*ckers…
“The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol’s brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.”

Feb.1 at 4:36 pm

BETCATS says:
Mike Conley and Rudy Gay to the Knicks for Starbury

Feb.1 at 4:36 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Russ, Right. I think the Grizzlies are doing the right thing as far as rebuilding is concerned. They weren’t going anywhere with Pau.

Feb.1 at 4:37 pm

Myles Brown says:
This team is gonna be so good it makes my f*king head hurt…

Feb.1 at 4:37 pm

Bryan says:
Jones, the best part of the story is that picture of Gasol inside is really of Javaris.

Feb.1 at 4:38 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
ESPN is awesome. And I love when ‘retired’ guys get traded.

Feb.1 at 4:38 pm

BETCATS says:
The real question is WILL PHIL JACKSON RIGHT A BOOK ABOUT THIS TOO?

Feb.1 at 4:39 pm

MagicChicken says:
Since no one’s pointed this out, I think Memphis fans should take solace in the fact that they just bought 8 mil (or something like that) in cap space for next season. I’m sure everyone agrees, there’s no way they’re resigning Kwame.

Feb.1 at 4:39 pm

its just alex says:
ahahaha. Good call, Bryan.

Feb.1 at 4:39 pm

BETCATS says:
If Terrel Brandon’s Contract were still alive it would have been traded too.

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

white hot eboy says:
Myles, you realize it’s Pau and not Dwight Howard, right?

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
I can’t help but fear this lineup: Fischer, Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum. Turiaf, Radmanovic, Farmar, Ariza off the bench! The Lakers are my favorites to win it in 2009.

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Indeed it is, Shia. I mean, it’s not like they don’t break most of the news in the sports world, but considering they spend more on a week’s salary for all their reporters than Slam spends on its entire staff in a year, I can’t help but laugh. Alright, gotta go grade papers now.

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Jerry West must have some pretty scandalous info on the Memphis FO.

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

BETCATS says:
Magic Chicken are you insane? Kwame is a franchies player

Feb.1 at 4:40 pm

its just alex says:
I wonder if Phil gave Kwame “A Walking Guide to Memphis Bakeries” when he handed out his books this week.

Feb.1 at 4:41 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
The bummer part about this deal for me is yet ANOTHER All-Star has been traded without the Bulls coming close to getting involved. F*ckers.

Feb.1 at 4:41 pm

BETCATS says:
a Lakers - Celtics final seems something in the future now.

Feb.1 at 4:41 pm

Bryan says:
F*ck the Bulls front office.

Feb.1 at 4:42 pm

Bigi says:
Somewhere(Canada!) Mr.Bryant is smiling…

Feb.1 at 4:42 pm

white hot eboy says:
Two things, does this kill the Lakers possiblity of going after Kidd and now it’s pretty easy for them to get out of the first round, right?

Feb.1 at 4:43 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Shia - What about the Bulls?

Feb.1 at 4:43 pm

BETCATS says:
F*ck the Bulls front court

Feb.1 at 4:43 pm

vmcb says:
wow… this is insane thank goodness the Lakers will be thin up front tonight when they play the Raps.

Feb.1 at 4:43 pm

Myles Brown says:
Lawrys. This automatically one of the best froncourts in the lig. Ballhandling, rebounding, post/perimeter presence, defense and high basketball IQ’s. Now add Kobe to that. This is a f*cking championship roster.

Feb.1 at 4:44 pm

BETCATS says:
no. A Vlad Rad, Farmar, Ariza, and future pick trade can still happen.

Feb.1 at 4:44 pm

Tsiry says:
The Lakers are going to the finals, that’s what it means!

Feb.1 at 4:45 pm

TADOne says:
Myles, please tell me you are sitting down.

Feb.1 at 4:45 pm

Bryan says:
It makes Odom more expendable so possibly not Eboy, they could package him and Radmanovic

Feb.1 at 4:46 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
The Lakers pretty much can’t trade for Kidd now. Kwame’s salary would have had to be a big part of any deal. Now they’d have a hard time matching Kidd’s $20 million.

Feb.1 at 4:46 pm

BETCATS says:
Exepect all bakerys in Mephis to step up security on the sidewalks surronding

Feb.1 at 4:46 pm

Myles Brown says:
TAD, ?

Feb.1 at 4:47 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
If they trade Odom and Halfpipe, they become awfully thin at the 3, don’t they?

Feb.1 at 4:47 pm

TADOne says:
Cause I didn’t want you to fall down.

Feb.1 at 4:47 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Eboy - I think their possibilities for Kidd were killed this summer when they refused to trade Bynum. Especially after his inspired play this season, there’s no way they’d part with him to get Kidd. However, if the Lakers pulled this type of a fleecing off with Memphis, you never know what might happen with the Nets.

Feb.1 at 4:48 pm

Myles Brown says:
Leave this team as is and ride it out…

Feb.1 at 4:48 pm

Reggie Evans says:
HELLO SECOND ROUND!

Feb.1 at 4:49 pm

Bigi says:
Memphis where Kwame Brown happens.

Feb.1 at 4:49 pm

TADOne says:
Lakers DON’T need Kidd now anyway.

Feb.1 at 4:49 pm

white hot eboy says:
If that happens, I’ll say they are one of the two favorites in the West, regardless of what Team Hypeman Brown (he’s almost as good as Flavor Flav)says, this move will pay dividends next season, once the squad has a chance to play some meaningful time together. Without Bynum for 5 to 6 morer weeks leaves just about a month of regular season games to get every acclimated. They need that time to have a chance to be great. That’s all I’m saying.

Feb.1 at 4:50 pm

white hot eboy says:
*everyone

Feb.1 at 4:51 pm

TADOne says:
Stop raining on the Lakers fans parade Eboy. They are having their Michael Jackson moment.

Feb.1 at 4:51 pm

Dizzle says:
It’d be funny if Rad took Pau snowboarding this year.

Feb.1 at 4:52 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Why shouldn’t we be content with the current Lakers roster. As Russ said, contract situations will most likely make this the final Laker hand dealt. And it’s damn near a royal flush already.

Feb.1 at 4:53 pm

white hot eboy says:
I’m really not trying too, TAD. I’d have been happy for their asses if they got Kidd, someone who could get Kobe and Bynum the ball, something they have been struggling with, especially in late game situations. (see: last two losses).

Feb.1 at 4:53 pm

Ben Osborne says:
Ryan, did you notice that your least-favorite media outlet had an OJ Mayo feature in the new issue of their magazine (the one with the absurd “FANS” cover)? Anyway, your story is somewhere between 15 and 50 times better.

Feb.1 at 4:54 pm

TADOne says:
Russ is currently booking a flight to Chicago and sharpening some knives.

Feb.1 at 4:54 pm

TheMC5 says:
Dammit. I hate the Lakers.

Feb.1 at 4:54 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Eboy, Kobe and Kidd has been nothing more than a Laker fan crack dream. Don’t join the speculation.

Feb.1 at 4:55 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
At least they got the story on the blind 92-year-old golfer.

Feb.1 at 4:56 pm

Reggie Evans says:
“I remember finding out about you/
Every day, my mind is all around youuuuuuuuu”

Feb.1 at 4:56 pm

white hot eboy says:
I would have liked to have seen the results, regardless, Rynocerous, so count me as a crackhead then.

Feb.1 at 4:56 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
And as I told Myles, the Bulls need to hire Charles Oakley as an all-purpose motivator. Pax not getting involved in deals? PUNCH. Hinrich shooting 30 percent from the floor? PUNCH. Ben Wallace posting double-singles? PUNCH.

Feb.1 at 4:57 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Bynum and Gasol will be a PAUwerful combo

Feb.1 at 4:57 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Spanish media will love reporting from LA

Feb.1 at 4:57 pm

white hot eboy says:
Damn, Reggie that is going old, old school.

Feb.1 at 4:58 pm

Myles Brown says:
They dont need Kidd now. Too many cooks in the kitchen and whatnot. A late season addition worked wonders for the Pistons a few years ago and Im interested to see how far the Lakeshow can go. Next year theyll just be that much more dangerous.

Feb.1 at 4:58 pm

H to the izzo says:
Will Charles Oakley jokes ever get old?Probably and it WILL be my fault.

Feb.1 at 4:59 pm

TADOne says:
Yeah, but we got Sheed for a box of Wheaties.

Feb.1 at 4:59 pm

white hot eboy says:
I really like their chances next year as long as they pick up another point guard to spell Farmar or vice versa.

Feb.1 at 5:00 pm

Sam Rubenstein says:
I think this is a good trade for the Lakers. WHOA!

Feb.1 at 5:00 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
TAD: And the Lakers got Gasol for KWAME BROWN.

Feb.1 at 5:00 pm

Reggie Evans says:
white hot - it’s old and new - they’re using for the Garnett NBA commercial, haven’t you seen it?

Feb.1 at 5:01 pm

Kevin says:
holy f*cking sh*t. big big big move.. now trade Odom for a better PG and BAM. if you can let go of Odom + a guy like Ariza or whoever isn’t named Bynum or Bryant for Jason Kidd? YESSSSSSss. lakers celts in the finals… this is HUGE.. i can’t get over this right now

Feb.1 at 5:02 pm

TADOne says:
Touche Bengtson.

Feb.1 at 5:02 pm

Bryan says:
I’m going to have check in Monday so I can gloat at Sam and get myself banned or something.

Feb.1 at 5:03 pm

albie1kenobi says:
i still don’t see why memphis makes the trade, i mean they couldn’t get better pieces from the bulls???? (sorry Russ)

Feb.1 at 5:03 pm

white hot eboy says:
Haven’t seen it, Reggie. And are the Lakers now on par with the darlings of the West, N’Awlins?

Feb.1 at 5:03 pm

Reggie Evans says:
Thank you Chicago, for refusing to include Nocioni! LAKERS!! HELLO SECOND ROUND!

Feb.1 at 5:04 pm

ImmortalD24 says:
OWNAGE!!! Lakers vs Celtics finals!! “Kobe can’t win without Shaq” LMAO!!!!

Feb.1 at 5:04 pm

Bryan says:
Memphis did it for cap room GET IT. CAP ROOM.

Feb.1 at 5:05 pm

Kevin says:
yea Memphis is retarded.. jus trade Mike Miller to a team that’ll use him properly now too.. like the Phoenix suns.. trade Miller for Marcus Banks, that makes about as much sense as the Gasol trade.. and the Suns could use Miller lol. anyways i think i just became interested in the NBA season again..

Feb.1 at 5:05 pm

Myles Brown says:
Second round? Think farther. How many teams are decidedly better than LA now? San Antonio? Um, yeah, thats about it.

Feb.1 at 5:05 pm

TADOne says:
Whats cap room?

Feb.1 at 5:06 pm

white hot eboy says:
No one seemed to be this excited about the C-Webb move?

Feb.1 at 5:06 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Somehow I don’t think that Rod Thorn would take on Lamar Odom’s deal when he’s already paying out the nose for VC and Richard Jefferson.

Feb.1 at 5:06 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
What I like about Gasol is he’s still 27 years old. He’s at the prime of his career, and will be effective for the Lakers for many years, if another Lakers dynasty (yes, I said it) ever emerges. His age and experience fits perfectly with the Kobe and Lamar. This gives the Lakers a talented vet nucleus, also in the prime of their careers.

Feb.1 at 5:07 pm

TADOne says:
I didn’t even know Pau had a brother in the NBA.

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Who cares about Chris Webber?

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

Jake Appleman says:
HOMBRE!

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

Bryan says:
I don’t think they should do it anyway Russ, I’m just saying it is possible cause Eboy asked.I like Odom , Gasol and Kobe.

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

white hot eboy says:
It was a joke, Russ.

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Myles, it’s not going to be a cake walk for the Lakers, but I agree. Conference Finals this season, at least.

Feb.1 at 5:08 pm

Kevin says:
who’s C-Webb? just kidding.. but no, his joinin of the Warriors is retarded.. on a good halfcourt team (like Dallas) i could picture Webber having an impact in big situations here and there.. on the Warriors he’ll just slow them down

Feb.1 at 5:09 pm

Reggie Evans says:
eboy - As long as Bynum comes back. It’s interesting to think of Bynum and Gasol playing at the same time. Won’t defenses pack it in? Lamar Odom has no J. But I guess Kobe and Fisher/Farmar can shoot a little bit. Another question I have - how many years left on Gasols contract? How much will he want?

Feb.1 at 5:09 pm

Jake Appleman says:
Navarro came to the league to play with his best friend only for his best friend to be traded for expiring contracts, another small guard and his little brother, who isn’t all that good…gotta feel for the dude.

Feb.1 at 5:09 pm

Kevin says:
trade Odom, trade Odom, trade Odom, trade Odom.. someone from the Lakers please read this.

Feb.1 at 5:09 pm

white hot eboy says:
Funny how Odom was a fuc*ing choke artist this morning, now he fits perfectly in the flow of things.

Feb.1 at 5:09 pm

Bigi says:
Like Seinfeld said it:”(Memphis)I will show you the Stooges…”

Feb.1 at 5:10 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@Jake - I’m sure Damon let Navarro know this is a business.

Feb.1 at 5:11 pm

Reggie Evans says:
And don’t forget - Lakers still have Ariza coming back!!! Memphis fans(the new Hawks fans) - is Pau’s defense really that bad? Or is like Nash, where the reputation is worse than the reality?

Feb.1 at 5:12 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Well, it’s one more offensive threat ahead of LO, so he can focus more on being a facilitator. Odom’s fine as long as he’s not the second option.

Feb.1 at 5:12 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
@EBoy - True statement about Odom. The difference? His role on this team is much different this afternoon than it was this morning.

Feb.1 at 5:14 pm

Reggie Evans says:
yes Odom is more valuable now to the Lakers

Feb.1 at 5:15 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Gasol has three more years left on his deal after this year.

Feb.1 at 5:15 pm

Jeronimo says:
Tado: Marc (Pau’s brother) is not in the NBA yet (he’s currently playing in Spain), but the Lakers drafted him on the summer of 2007.

Feb.1 at 5:16 pm

The Second Coming says:
GREATEST SH*T EVER. Holly I’ma marry you if you had anything to do with this. fisher (then farmar), kobe, odom, gasol, bynum. I need to change my pants.

Feb.1 at 5:16 pm

white hot eboy says:
You guys do realize that Lamar is most effective in a uptempo system which maximizes his length, ball handling and finishes and the addition of Pau is the EXACT opposite of that?

Feb.1 at 5:16 pm

TADOne says:
Someone may want to tell him to stay in Spain instead of going to Memphis.

Feb.1 at 5:18 pm

Bryan says:
Nah dude Pau can rebound and start breaks.

Feb.1 at 5:18 pm

The Second Coming says:
hey…have brothers ever been traded for each other before?

Feb.1 at 5:18 pm

Myles Brown says:
All lamar has to do is initiate the offense and hit the boards. An uptempo system is for a small team. This team aint small anymore. Lamar and Pau are both inside/outside threats and both move the ball well, which is what works for the triangle.

Feb.1 at 5:19 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Odom and Gasol’s opposite games should compliment well. The diversity of talent will make them a very tough mark for opponents.

Feb.1 at 5:19 pm

Kevin says:
i don’t think Odom fits into the picture better at all.. not considering he’d play at the 3 next to Gasol & Bynum. then add to the fact that he’s never really been able to compliment Bryant.. then add to the fact that he’s not a good jump shooter.. then WTF is he going to do?! passing into the post & rebounding are about the only two things he’s good at..

Feb.1 at 5:19 pm

white hot eboy says:
I guess it will be nice to evaluate the deal once a game is actually played.

Feb.1 at 5:19 pm

albie1kenobi says:
i need to pick up the pieces of my brains that got blown off… who’s left on grizz now? cap room is nice but no one wants to sign with a team that’s terrible AND in a small market. this makes me think jerry west is still pulling strings in memphis.

Feb.1 at 5:19 pm

Reggie Evans says:
eboy - it may be beneficial to both, when the Lakers run, the onus will be off of Gasol to produce, and when the game slows down, the onus will be off of Odom to produce. Or they could both suck. But I doubt it.

Feb.1 at 5:20 pm

Kevin says:
PS. i think Gasol and Bynum should be ok on the offensive end at least.. Gasol’s a good passer, and Bynum (at least right now) needs DEEP interior position to do well, which comes off of secondary plays or offensive rebounds anyways.

Feb.1 at 5:22 pm

whooo! says:
chicago and jersey really blew it big time! lakers get post player who can put up 20 for a guy who’s dumb, can’t catch, can’t finish, is mentally weak, and has been hated by the home crowd since he was in dc. the west is so unreal!

Feb.1 at 5:22 pm

Reggie Evans says:
I want that artist guy’s next drawing to be the Lakers!

Feb.1 at 5:22 pm

Young Chris #3 says:
Kobe must be happy that he didn’t get traded to Pluto now… I like this Lakers team. They’re gonna be tough to beat when at full strength, but I still think the Hornets are the real deal and the Spurs will turn it back on eventually…

Feb.1 at 5:23 pm

Young Chris #3 says:
and did this thread really get 200 posts in less than 90 minutes?

Feb.1 at 5:23 pm

white hot eboy says:
They won’t both suck, I think Lamar is at the end of his Lakers road, though. I think he will move. They would be incredibly deadly if they got a knockdown three shooting SF iwho can spread the florr for Kobe’s drives and sapce sh8t for Bynum/Pau If that same dude could play some hard perimiter D to give Kobe a rest, forget it. That would be the end all be all deal for this team.

Feb.1 at 5:24 pm

TADOne says:
We are nothing if efficient.

Feb.1 at 5:24 pm

Bryan says:
Agreed Eboy, but I think Odom can make it work.

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

white hot eboy says:
Efficiency rules.

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

k.o. says:
damn…couldn’t this have happened a week ago, i’m goin to see the kobe show at the acc tonight…

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

H to the izzo says:
This is excellent for Kwame’s blossoming country music career.

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

Kevin says:
i was jus about to see if Odom’s salary matched Mike Miller’s seeing as Memphis is retarded……….

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

TADOne says:
Say hi to Holly k.o.

Feb.1 at 5:25 pm

J.B says:
omg. lakers are gonna make some noise this year. for real

Feb.1 at 5:26 pm

white hot eboy says:
Shia, Lamar can’t shoot for sh*t. You or Bodie would be better on the floor with them than Lamar.

Feb.1 at 5:27 pm

namik says:
Almost choked on the burger I was eating. This is beautiful. How f*cking dumb can Memphis get???? And Bynum with Pau? Kobe? Lamar? Sasha’s hair? Farmar’s ears? Wish it had been Luke Walton instead of Javaris. Guess no one wants him. I will kinda miss Kwame. Is this confirmed though?

Feb.1 at 5:27 pm

Reggie Evans says:
By the way - my productivity at work today just hit negative territory because of this news

Feb.1 at 5:27 pm

Kevin says:
gonna say something i don’t think i’ve ever admitted, even to myself, i think.. but part of me’s always wanted Kobe to have another chance to go for a string of championships.. i’m not gonna go as far as to say he’s comparable or better than Jordan etc, but in this generation, i can’t really think of anyone else who’s a harder competitor on the basketball court.. dude can do it all, and as of now i’d still take Kobe over Lebron anyday..

Feb.1 at 5:27 pm

mutoni says:
speechless. tremendous move! going to arena now!

Feb.1 at 5:29 pm

namik says:
Mitch I only hated you cause I loved you (no non-hetro).

Feb.1 at 5:29 pm

Kevin says:
namik brought up a good point i was thinkin of a bit earlier tho.. Jarvis Crittenton looks pretty solid and i think he’ll be a lot better than Jordan Farmar in a couple years. don’t see how that helps Memphis who already has two solid PGs in the making… :S

Feb.1 at 5:29 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Another interesting fact about Gasol: although he’s been fighting injuries all season, he still ranks among the NBA’s top 30 in PER. That’s ahead of Josh Howard, Josh Smith, Shawn Marion, Richard Hamilton, Carmelo Anthony, Brandon Roy, etc.

Feb.1 at 5:30 pm

bOBbY DIgITAl says:
Maybe lakers can trade Odom and farmar for Kidd …is that possible

Feb.1 at 5:30 pm

albie1kenobi says:
nice izzo.
eboy, thanks for stating the obvious. kudo points. though i think lamar is versatile enough to create a niche for himself in the system.
lakers is now a top 3 team in the entire league. how did this happen? and there’s also an additional addition by subtraction in this trade too. it’s like trading in a broken cassette player for an ipod.

Feb.1 at 5:31 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
By the way, PER is Player Efficiency Rating - basically a Hollinger-derived per-minute productivity rating.

Feb.1 at 5:33 pm

Myles Brown says:
Lamar dont have to shoot. The team still has plenty sharpshooters. Just board and pass. This team can be for real now. LA was already putting fear into Phoenix, who couldnt stop Bynum. Now Gasol too? With Lamar owning the boards? Dunzo. Dallas? Maybe. New Orleans? They have the bodies to match up defensively, but I dont think they can keep up offensively. Utah? Ditto. Denver? Ha. Play some effin defense. San An is the only team stronger right now and they might lose valuable playoff positioning with this slide theyre in now. The Lakers can realistically go very far this year and certainly even farther in the future.

Feb.1 at 5:33 pm

Kevin says:
lol at the broken cassette for an ipod analogy.. i’m gonna laugh til i cry when i watch a Grizzlies game and they announce Kwame Brown & Milicic in the same starting lineup.. hopefully Hakim Warrick gets some burn now though.

Feb.1 at 5:34 pm

Myles Brown says:
Kobe might resign tonight.

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

Kevin says:
resign as in quit? or re-sign..

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

TADOne says:
Lamar owning boards??!!! Now you’re going a little far Myles.

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

Myles Brown says:
Ha.

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

white hot eboy says:
I know Holly was going to try and play it cool but I don’t see who that will be possible now.

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

Bryan says:
Lamar does get 10 a game, that isn’t bad.

Feb.1 at 5:35 pm

white hot eboy says:
*how

Feb.1 at 5:36 pm

Myles Brown says:
Lamar always boards against PHX. Marion lives on a milk carton against him.

Feb.1 at 5:36 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Remember: Kwame = f*cking huge expiring contract!!! Memphis did NOT acquire Kwame for his (lack of) talent!

Feb.1 at 5:36 pm

Myles Brown says:
I just texted Holly and shes losing her f*cking mind.

Feb.1 at 5:36 pm

white hot eboy says:
Love it.

Feb.1 at 5:37 pm

TADOne says:
Too bad he couldn’t box out Tayshaun.

Feb.1 at 5:37 pm

H to the izzo says:
hyphenate people.

Feb.1 at 5:39 pm

TADOne says:
Holly is on cloud 10, she passed right by 9.

Feb.1 at 5:39 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
The Griz are NOT retarded for doing this! This summer will be a buyer’s market. Memphis can offer Jamison and/or Brand the chance to play alongside Rudy “The Most Improved” Gay, and Mike Conley.

Feb.1 at 5:40 pm

TADOne says:
To play in Memphis??

Feb.1 at 5:40 pm

namik says:
My head hurts. This is overwhelming.

Feb.1 at 5:41 pm

Myles Brown says:
Im out. Gotta celebrate and go to the other LA team against the Wolves.

Feb.1 at 5:41 pm

albie1kenobi says:
i’m thinking bodie’s off to purchase pallets of champagne right now.

Feb.1 at 5:41 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Yeah, I’ve gotta think that Jamison would prefer to re-sign with Washington, and Elton…well, he’d rather be on a good team.

Feb.1 at 5:42 pm

Kevin says:
Ryne, even if Jamison or Brand showed up in Memphis to join Gay and Conley and Miller, they wouldn’t be a contender.

Feb.1 at 5:42 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Clippers/Wolves? You’re a brave man, Myles. And this coming from someone who went to Knicks/Sixers.

Feb.1 at 5:43 pm

TADOne says:
Kaman vs. Jefferson.

Feb.1 at 5:44 pm

albie1kenobi says:
all the money (cap room) in the world can’t buy you a good player if no one wants to come play. well, maybe there can overpay some 2nd stringers.

Feb.1 at 5:45 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Seriously. Rudy Gay and Mike Conley are some good young talent! It’s very likely Brand or Jamison could end up in TN because there are VERY FEW teams with the cap space to join the bidding.

Feb.1 at 5:46 pm

TADOne says:
Other than the teams they are on now.

Feb.1 at 5:48 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
They could also both re-sign with their respective teams. I could totally see Jamison taking a pay cut to stay in DC, and Donald Sterling needs to show he cares about winning. Um, again.

Feb.1 at 5:49 pm

namik says:
Steve Nash’s window just got slammed in his face. Please, PLEASE let us be healthy and play them in the playoffs.

Feb.1 at 5:49 pm

john says:
i feel bad for kwame but life goes on,lol

Feb.1 at 5:50 pm

Young Chris #3 says:
Elton Brand is NOT going to play for a rebuilding franchise. He’s done that TWICE already. He’s too much of a beast to be stuck in development hell…

Feb.1 at 5:50 pm

TADOne says:
Donald Sterling cares about Donald Sterling’s bank account. But since he has a man crush on Maggette he’ll probably re-sign Brand.

Feb.1 at 5:51 pm

Kevin says:
yea seriously.. i wanted the Suns to win at least one championship, but its looking less and less likely.. if Amare could play defense consistently without fouling like a 12 yr old girl, and if Diaw could play like the way we all know he CAN when he comes off the bench, then the Suns would be a goooood team… as it is, doesn’t seem all to fit and the margin of error’s too small (coz they don’t play D)

Feb.1 at 5:53 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Sterling can’t talk so much sh*t about Dunleavy’s coaching and then NOT at least make an effort to re-sign his best player.

Feb.1 at 5:54 pm

jbn74sb says:
Holy F-cking Sh-t!
We got Gasol, and all we had to give up was Kwame Brown’s hands and our 3rd string PG, plus a couple of sh-tty picks. Mitch for GM of the decade.

Feb.1 at 5:54 pm

Bryan says:
well it’s about time I wrap this up , everyone take care.I’ll be out of here in about 15 minutes.Good job Lakers. F*ck the Knicks, F*ck the Isiah, F*ck the bulls, f*ck the playoff seeding and under .500 teams making it and f*ck everything I missed. Oh yeah and f*ck captain america for real for real.

Feb.1 at 5:54 pm

Krayzie Bone says:
Steve Nash’s window got slammed shut when Amare’s surgury happened. Now he’s the ghost of Amare: takes the shots, but intimidates no one on D

Feb.1 at 5:55 pm

jbn74sb says:
I’ve got a hard-on.

Feb.1 at 5:55 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Nice closing statement.

Feb.1 at 5:56 pm

TADOne says:
Shia, I’m so disappointed. Where is the f*ck the Pistons?

Feb.1 at 5:57 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
F*ck the Pistons.

Feb.1 at 5:58 pm

TADOne says:
Thanks Russ. I was feeling left out.

Feb.1 at 5:59 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
You have to wonder if Memphis isn’t done yet. Why would they take Javaris Crittenton? It once again creates a logjam at the point guard spot that was just cleared up by buying out Damon Stoudamire.

Feb.1 at 5:59 pm

Josh says:
dunno wat pick they will get… eric gordan… derrick rose are both going to come in produce straight away…..

Feb.1 at 6:00 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Bryan - Glad you were here for this on your last day!

Feb.1 at 6:01 pm

H to the izzo says:
Ryne:It’s called going for the number 1.

Feb.1 at 6:01 pm

Krayzie Bone says:
Its not that they can’t play D, its that Amare gets torched by everyone. If Nash plays a good point guard, he doesn’t seem to get torched, but Amare does.

Feb.1 at 6:04 pm

albie1kenobi says:
so…spurs and lakers in the west conf finals?
and izzo, another great point. who’s available for the draft this coming year again?

Feb.1 at 6:05 pm

H to the izzo says:
By all accounts,if the Griz were to get the number 1,they would take Beasley.

Feb.1 at 6:07 pm

namik says:
kobe and phil made Kwame servicable. Imagine what Pau can be.

Feb.1 at 6:08 pm

albie1kenobi says:
did phil foresee all these and that’s why he signed the extension?

Feb.1 at 6:09 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
If the Grizzlies don’t land Brand/Jamison/Josh Smith this summer, they could wait until the next for Carlos Boozer. They’re in fine shape.

Feb.1 at 6:10 pm

Ryne Nelson says:
Izzo, the fact they traded Pau for Kwame means it’s called cap room.

Feb.1 at 6:10 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Utah will DEFINITELY re-sign Booz. Are you kidding me?

Feb.1 at 6:11 pm

rand33p says:
wow as a laker fan i’m jus.. wow …… wtf were the grizz thinking?

Feb.1 at 6:12 pm

jbn74sb says:
Now if we can move Odom for Artest…
