‘Sheed Hates the All-Star Game
OK, not really, but Rasheed Wallace isn’t exactly thrilled with the idea of going to New Orleans next month.
With Shaq fossilizing before our very eyes, and Dwight Howard being the sure-fire starter , ‘Sheed is likely to be named the backup center by the coaches in the mid-season showcase. There’s just one small problem: He doesn’t want to go.
“That’s what I look forward to, those four days,” Wallace said. “I’m not trying to go down there. I want to rest those four days. I’ve been keeping a little eye on it. Better (Shaq) than me.”
If you’ve ever wondered why a large segment of the basketball-viewing public doesn’t like the guy, this is a perfect example. His coach, Flip Saunders, is already ridiculing the comments, as he should.
Go to the game, Sheed. The weekend may be a grind to an extent (what, with the media obligations and whatnot), but it’s not like you’re going to be asked to play 40 minutes in the game. Suck it up.

he would be the only player to catch a double-T during an all star game

Sheed says this EVERY year.

Has anyone ever even gotten a T in an All-Star game? If not Sheed should be the first.

Do they cut checks for the ASG? Maybe thats the problem.

Sheed, see article on Matt Harpring for sobering reflection.
Jan.22 at 1:28 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
It’s highly doubtful that ‘Sheed believes in such things as sobering OR reflection, let alone both at the same time.

Just send Shaq one last time. He seems to genuinely enjoy the experience still, which is amazing.

Its amazing that Shaq still likes attention?

It’s amazing that people still like Shaq.

From a playing ability stand point that is.

Russ Bengtson says:
Shaq seems to genuinely enjoy the ENTIRE All-Star experience. Which is more than you can say for some players. The Big Contract has his problems to be sure, but at least he seems to comprehend that being an NBA player is a pretty great gig and not the equivalent of working in a coal mine. (Although at this point I’d actually rather work in a coal mine than play for the Heat.)

I fail to understand Sheed at the best of times.

Sheed likes it like that.

Rasheed is also one of my top-five favorite NBA players ever. (That list would probably be 25 names long, but who’s counting?)

Shaq at the ASG in NOLA makes sense. He played his college ball at LSU and it could be kind of a last hurrah for him (as the Heat aren’t going anywhere). ‘Sheed (as much love as I got for him) is wrong to say that. Then again, he’s never been one to care for “free” events.

The older you get, the more those little breaks in your work schedule become appreciated. Look at the way he said “those 4 days” Oh the anticipation! I dont blame Sheed, he is but a man.

Phil B says:
sheed is definitely top five. he’s kinda the anti-shaq if you think about it. just send shaq for the hell of it. why send someone who just wants to sit at home and smoke a blunt while watching wrestling? he’s gotta prepare for the postseason!

Why would Sheed get the call over Ilguskus?

I think Sheed will be voted into ASG, and that he’ll play there as well..
I dont think Shaq deserves to be there even though he is gonna be on the 50 greatest players list
it’s about the best players right now!
Jan.22 at 3:45 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Keith: Right now, limiting it to players of my generation, I’d say it’s Pippen, Jordan, Sheed, Garnett and Iverson. But I could probably add 10 more names to that list without even breaking a sweat.

Andre Kirilenko?
Jan.22 at 7:44 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Indeed. He’s probably in my top…50? Kobe’s in the top 10. And actually, upon reflection, Sheed probably is, too. Top five is tough.
Jan.22 at 8:00 pm
ak47 says:
Wow Russ! Andre Kirilenko in the top 50? Now that’s tough. Kobe Bryant in the top 10? I agree. And if he can win another championship, he should be in the top 5. As for ‘Sheed, I’ll put him in the top 30 list. When he was in Portland between 1999-2002, I used to think that he was the best player in the NBA! True story!

Sheed should be chillin’ with his wife on a sunny beach drinking icy drinks for 4 days instead. Sheed should be respected for saying it like it is. Sheed in 08′!
No one should be forced to go to ASG. I’ll say it again I’m a BIG Sheed fan.

Dannie says:
He has his priorities straight. He wants to rest up for the second half run. And singling him out is unfair considering he isn’t the only aging player that feels this way. Especially when you are in contention for an NBA finals.

Some point that has nothing to do with these comments .
NBA referees are a joke .
I just watched the game DET-ORL on nba tv.
Chauncey Billups made four steps without dribbling before shooting his threepointer that almost sent the game to overtime .

For what it’s worth, I agree with Jukai - Ilgauskas is having a better year than Sheed, and he wouldnt come out and say that he doesnt want to go.
