Scottie Pippen Sees Midgets in Bulls Backcourt

by Marcel Mutoni

We signed off on Monday with a post on Scottie Pippen lobbying hard (if not foolishly) for the head coaching gig in Chicago, and today, we start things off with Pippen all but ruining any chance in hell of getting the job.

Scottie was asked about the Bulls’ backcourt tandem of Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich, and the ever candid Pippen did not mince words. Pip said that Gordon has been taking bad shots because he’s angling for a big deal this summer (with the season being a contract one), and called Hinrich vertically challenged:

Pippen’s assessment of Kirk Hinrich included this: ‘’He’s not that talented. Let him run the offense. But you can’t have midgets running your backcourt. Little guards always put you in a vulnerable position.'’

You know, there’s telling the truth, and then there’s shooting yourself in the foot. Pippen is apparently a master of the latter.

Take note, Scottie: In the fragile and sensitive world of NBA egos, diplomacy and kindness are king. The last Bulls coach never learned this; look where it got him.

Jared says:
Pip doesn’t know sh!t. Hinrich is a hell of a point guard. The difference between Pippen and Charles Barkley, is that people actually like Charles Barkley. Scottie Pippen is CB4 minus a brain. Great basketball player, pretty big assh ole.

The other difference Jared……6 rings.

Sesa says:
Great, these will help him get a gig as the Bulls Coach.
He might still make these comments if the roster were Nash+Barbosa, Davis+Ellis.

DannyW_UK says:
When you say Scottie Pippen I really struggle to see past ‘1.8 Seconds left’ incident, or the migraine, the guy let his teammates down when it really mattered. And for that reason I wouldn’t want him Coaching my team. Not that he’ll get a chance after those comments.

Jan.2 at 10:26 am

Sesa says:
Anyway eboy, rings doesn’t always make you a good coach.
Then again maybe Rodman should coach the Bulls.

Mayor Adam West says:
Excuse me, would anyone like to play Stratego? I have Stratego.

Jan.2 at 10:34 am

white hot eboy says:
Sesa, Pippen would suck as a head coach, but he could probably make a good assistant.

Hisham says:
Scottie Pippen needs lessons in humility and a whole lot of other commonly appreciated traits ASAP

white hot eboy says:
Pip’s book “How To Wrangle White Women In Just 3 Steps” is going to take the bestseller list by storm.

Jan.2 at 10:43 am

Mark Z says:
I realize NBA height listings are generous (esp Gordon), but 6′3″ is hardly midget-sized. Now if they had DStodemire & Earl Boykins running their backcourt, then you’d have midgets…

WeS says:
Scottie Pippen the coach: grand opening / grand closing

Jan.2 at 10:53 am

Jared says:
The other difference eboy, which you know best, michael jordan. I think Pip was a great player, and would make a real good assistant coach if he’s good at working with younger players. He kinda seems like he has no patience though, so i don’t know how good of an assistant he’d be. He needs to stop running his mouth though and start putting in work.

Jan.2 at 10:56 am

Vortex Knight says:
How many great players have actually made the transition from being an All-Star to being a great coach? Seems like most of the former players that end up being great coaches are the support guys.

Jan.2 at 10:57 am

white hot eboy says:
Jared, very true, similar to 24’s attachment to Shaq. If Scottie can get a few years under his bet as an assistant, maybe he could open his mouth then.

Jan.2 at 11:02 am

Benoit Benjamin says:
Vortex, how about Bird, Bill Russel, Lenny Wilkens?

Jan.2 at 11:02 am

TADOne says:
Scottie apparently has a over sized view of himself. If he was so great then why wouldn’t Phil hire him on his staff? Scottie, you have to “pay your dues”.

Pippen is a moron I hate him. How was everyone’s new year’s celebration?

Jan.2 at 11:34 am

Toni Kukoc should coach the Bulls. And make Ben Gordon should give back his number.

Jan.2 at 11:35 am

BETCATS says:
Sam wont get fired cause the team is living up to expectations of sucking its way to the 9-10 seed in the LEast confence: where 39 win teams making the playoffs happens

“should” be ignored

Captain America says:
Hinrich is a hind product of a guard. He regularly gets out ran, out shot, and out defended by more capable and sizable opponents. More suited for WNBA.

Jan.2 at 12:06 pm

Captain America says:
Scottie and the bull pips?

Jan.2 at 12:34 pm

Adam says:
I think he’s trying to be a little to “Phil Jackson” here. Phil likes big guards (Ron Harper anyone) but Kirk is a good player. He’s shooting a horrible % right now but that doesn’t mean he can’t run a team. Besides, who are you gonna get to run this club thats over 6′3. There aren’t a lot of big points out there. Oh wait i got it! Marko Jaric!

Jan.2 at 12:39 pm

white hot eboy says:
Scottie should take the Grimace’s job and let Lebron run wild.

Jan.2 at 12:56 pm

sayerazifoh says:
i think scottie talks sense… from his point .. i don’t really he meant that.. what he meant could be midgets inside Bulls organization ? i mean … how many can a midget do if not only score ? they gotta move more on defense ?

Russ Bengtson says:
I’ve been saying the Bulls backcourt is too small for years now. Maybe I should be the next Bulls coach.

Art Vandelay says:
Is a combination of six rings and hate for small people enough to be an NBA-Coach? How tall was Scott Skiles, by the way?

Jan.2 at 2:03 pm

deepspace5 says:
does that make Hinrich the Ping-Ping to end all Ping-Pings?

Jan.2 at 2:42 pm

Tommy Patron says:
Pippen apparently doesn’t realize that the coach can only put players on the floor that are actually on his team’s roster. I think the Bulls need bigger guards, a starting center taller than 6′7″ and younger than 50, and also a starting power forward that can play more than 25 minutes a game. It’s easy to be a big maven genius when talking in hypotheticals.

Jan.2 at 2:47 pm

Russ Bengtson says:
Scottie is apparently unaware that diplomacy is part of being a coach–and he’s always been a bit of an arrogant bastard. If he ever does get an NBA head job. I’ll bet he doesn’t last a year.

Jan.2 at 3:09 pm

Tommy Patron says:
I’ll co-sign that, Russ. I can’t think of anyone in basketball with enough juice to make Pippen a head coach that would ever do so. Additionally, why would any existing NBA head coach want Pip as an assistant with his penchant for being a public and private d*ckhe*d?

Jan.2 at 3:11 pm

Allenp says:
As sensitive as Scottie was, and considering how he cracked during his own contentious contract negotiations, he really needs to lighten up. Seriously. Don’t make me call Oakley.

Jan.2 at 3:30 pm

Art Vandelay says:
Maybe he’ll get a job as MJ’s personal assistant in Charlotte…

oi man! i hate midget guards. hinrich has no idea wat its like bein a big man thats y magic was so good caus he new wer the big man wanted it. my views on all the great pgs is that they must of played a bit of big man in ther juniors like john stockton. and hinrichs worthless this season trade him for dre miller

mitch36 says:
hinrich is a good player why would pippen eve say that

Jan.3 at 4:03 am

Levon J. says:
well he is right, but wow!

Jan.3 at 5:01 am

Harlem_World says:
Its not so much about Heinrich as it is Gordon. He needs to be traded. Get his value (and average) up through ASW and get him out of there. Package him with a Tyrus Thomas (can you actually believe the Bulls went with this guy OVER Aldridge and Brandon Roy???) and change (has either Demetrius or Khrappoutaya even gotten on court this year?) for a legit 2/3 or for Gasol. Mark my words: Gordons Bulls will NEVER go further than the 2nd round of the playoffs (and even that is a stretch).

Jan.3 at 6:53 am

hursty says:
Where are they going to get points from though? If they trade their starting backcourt in who can they get? JKidd and Kobe? Ha. at least u get height and a very good defensive team if u dont get rid of wallace (which is almost impossible). even if pippen is right why would they take that 9the bulls) as mutoni said he would have no respect from those 2, and less from the other players. the possible trades they would make would likely bring them back 1 or 2 years anyway for chemistry. Look at my poor rockets… NOBODY LIKES…Mike James

Jan.3 at 11:41 am

QQ says:
Wtf, Pippen is right, if a bit overboard, but man he is right. The Bull’s backcourt ain’t performin’, we can all see that.

Jan.3 at 12:47 pm

Candice says:
The backcourt is performing now. They are 3-1 with their new coach and they have a taller gaurd named Thabo Sefalosha who is 6′6 I think that doesn’t play for some reason.

Jan.3 at 2:56 pm

QQ says:
Let’s see, they’ve won against the Knicks, Bucks and Bobcats. Not exactly a group of Finals contenders, eh?

Jan.4 at 10:12 pm

Will says:
Kirk Hinrich is 6′3…what is everyone on about. As a point guard he is up with the tallest.
The small one is Gordon who is also 6′3…he needs to be a few inches taller to play the 2.
Also, yes, Hinrich isn’t an all star, but he is still one of the better point guards in the league (just).
Ben Gordon though…i feel he’s a good player but not at the Bulls, he’s not good enough at creating his own shot and because there is no inside game they need someone playing the two to penetrate if Deng is off.

Jan.6 at 12:13 pm

Rod Johnson says:
Now, let me see….Hinrich whos is a having his first real sub-par shooting year so far(still getting 11 pts, 6 assists and 4 rebounds a night) is 6′3″/190#, that’s hardly a midget even for the point guard position and by the way his career averages of 15 pts., 6 asst., and 4 rebs. are pretty damn good for any point guard IMO. Now Ben Gordon, who I must admit has always done better at the shooting guard position than I ever dreamed he would because of his lack of height is too short(6′3″ and that’s being generous I believe) to ever be a “great” 2-guard. By the way, Pippen seemed to have a real shot until the whole “midget” comments came about….thank goodness for that. PS: 2-time NBA MVP Steve Nash is 6′3″/178 as well as 06-07 NBA Finals MVP Tony Parker who is 6′2/180#….I guess they are midgets and wouldn’t fit on Pippens team either.
