LeBron’s Order: One Jason Kidd and a Side of Fries
LBJ is not one to come out and make too many definitive statements; like many of his peers in the Association, he usually sticks to tried and tested clichés and platitudes.
With a potentially available Jason Kidd, however, LeBron is being pretty damn direct about what he wants. James wants Kidd on the Cavs. Point blank. End of story:
“I would love to have a guy like Jason Kidd to be a part of this franchise, I think it makes us that much better of a team. Everyone knows how much I love Jason Kidd just throughout the summertime. It’s not hard to see how much I’d love to have him as part of the team. Honestly, when you see Jason Kidd wants to be traded, you shouldn’t have to go to the front office and tell them to get on it. It’s Jason Kidd.”
Then I was asked if being paired with Kidd could bring a championship to Cleveland. He said: “Yeah..(pause and a smile)…It’s that easy.”
Danny Ferry, your work has been cut out for you.
Considering the fact that Cleveland doesn’t have too many tradeable assets, to say nothing of Kidd’s monster contract, it’ll certainly be interesting to see LeBron’s reaction should his front office fail to acquire the coveted point guard.

Windhorst predicts the chances are small (15 percent) that the Cavs pull a deal for Kidd…but then again, that’s a pretty good chance considering we’re talking about Ferry here.

ason is not enough to get the Cavs a ring. They would still need a strong third piece.

Kidd will end up in the West, for sure. Probably Dallas or L.A. In fact, L.A. probably has more to give to get Kidd than Dallas. But it’s Cuban that says *uck the tax. It’ll be interesting to see who comes up with Kidd.

I’d be more surprised if ‘Bron came out and said he’d rather play with Allstar centre, Jamaal Magloire.

All Star, baby! Magloire, with all his Canadian-ness and $4M US dollars he’s making this season.

A “big 3″ of LeBron, Kidd and Z has a decent chance of winning it all, depending on who they would face in the NBA Finals, if they get there. But Kidd to the Cavs ain’t happening, for a ton of reasons.

Cheryl, I’m not buying the whole “Nets must send Kidd to the West” routine. Kidd has 1-2 good years left in him, and if the Nets are looking to reload, they’re not going to contend that quickly anyway. But the Cavs won’t make available the few players the Nets might actually have interest in, and my guess is they want nothing to do with the rest. And Cavs draft picks aren’t going to be top-20 for a while. Good luck to the other teams and make sure you don’t overpay for a soon-to-be-35 PG who can’t hit the side of a barn.

Memo to Danny Ferry: Do it! That said, it needs to be noted Kidd ain’t no Kid! That should limit his trade value. I would hate to part with Daniel Gibson, who has so much potential, to get Kidd.
How about a package of Shannon Brown, Sasha Pavalvich, a draft pick.

Gil and Darius Songaila for Kidd. The Wiz become instant contenders. I love Arenas but Washington would instantly become one of the toughest teams in the league. Especially, if Haywood continues to play like he has a backbone. Tough Juice for MVP.

I love Kidd, but I would only trade for him and his aforementioned monster contract if that automatically made me a title contender. Or if I were already a contender, like Dallas. The Cavs + Kidd spells deep playoff run but no ring, and then you’ll have no cap space in a year or two when Kidd starts to decline.

Cheryl says:
I think it just makes sense to send Kidd west since it is those teams with the talent and the potential to go deep in the playoffs. Teams in the east are either building their young rosters themselves or are not going anywhere and because of it, probably don’t have the talent the Nets would want. The west teams, on the other hand, have a host of teams that believe (rightly or wrongly) that they are one key player away from a championship run. Those are the teams that may risk trading youth for a veteran play maker like Jason. That’s what I meant, neaoring, not that the Nets are “scared” of trading Kidd to an east squad.

Slick Nick Da Ruler says:
Does anyone think Thorn will burn Jason? I don’t see why there should be red carpet loyalty to Kidd. Why send him to a contender, or to the Cavs ( so LeBron can love him in the summertime)? Why does Kidd deserve the sendoff?
Jan.30 at 11:41 am
neaorin says:
Fair enough, Cheryl. I just think the Nets are asking too much if they want young players, cap relief AND draft picks for a 35yo player with a huge contract. And we’re not talking about the ‘04 Shaq here, Shaq could still dominate games back then. I think the actual selling price (in terms of talent at least) will be much lower than what’s tossed around now. Heck, if I’m the Nets, I’m starting by asking for Josh Howard too.

Allenp says:
If they keep Hughes, Bron and Z, the Cavs would be successful with Kidd. They don’t need any of those other guys that much. Kidd would improve Hughes game immediately, he would make Bron truly unstoppable on the wing and Sideshow would get way better shots.
Jan.30 at 11:50 am
Allenp says:
Kidd for Gooden, Marshall, Snow and a first round pick works under the ESPN trade machine. The Nets would immediately fix their problems on the interior. A frontline of Gooden, Jefferson and Sean Williams can succeed in the East. They get a point guard to run the team while Marcus Williams get right and they get another shooter to stretch the floor. It’s not the best trade, but it does work.
Jan.30 at 11:55 am
Keith says:
Eric Snow is more likely to be a balloon seller at the circus than a starting point guard in the NBA. Doesn’t even matter that it’s the East.

Perez Hilton says:
funny story about JKidd. In oakland their was a lot of hype in the local papers about a 6′0 “kidd” that was dunking on guys. Our school was ranked pretty high in the pre-season, before JR Rider became inelegilbe. Kidd’s first visit to our school created a huge buzz. At school that day their were rumors that Rider was going to call out Kidd at halftime and challenge him to a dunk contest. As crazy as it sounds, this was JR Rider. It never did happen, Rider didn’t even show up for the game, but i’ve never seen our gym with so many reporters and fans.

Putting a trade together w/ Cleveland is not that hard. Drew Gooden, Daniel Gibson, Ira Newble, and Eric Snow match Kidd’s salary. They get twice as much scoring and more rebounding in return. Gooden plays a position they need. Boobie gives them another young prospect to add to Boone and S. Williams. Newble’s $3.5 mil comes off after the season and another $13 mil comes off after next.

Kidd is going to Dallas. Mark Cuban is a fan of the game, which is why he’ll drop 100 billion dollars to have his team win. Plus it’ll add on the court leadership, something that Dirk (and pretty much every european player ever) can’t provide.

I like the idea of Kidd going to Washington for Arenas and another dude, could work out well for both sides! Wizards get to contend immidietaly, and the Nets would get a flashy superstar wich could be a marketing boost with the move to Brooklyn..

Alot of y’all totally underestimate Kidd’s ability. He’s got 2 good years left in the tank. He needs to go to a contender. Much as Bron/Kidd would be electrifying, and as much as he’d improve Big Z and Gooden - to get that ring within 2 years he needs to go to either Dallas or (hate to say it) Lakers. Kidd + Kobe + Bynum could win it all in 2 years. Probably have to give up Lamar plus change to get him, but it’d be worth it as when he starts to decline, you’ve still got Kobe and Bynum plus the young cats coming through.

OK, first, no way Cavs go anywhere without V. Second, Larry Houghs would not be missed in Cleveland. Cavs can give up Sasha, Ira N, Dwanye Jones, Eric Snow, Damon Jones, and Donyell Marshall, but NEVER Z! Besides, if you trade Z, or Drew Goo, or V, who is gonna get Houghs’ missed shots? What is he 3 for 9000? Anyways, it’s money. not players. simple. So WHO HAS THE MONEY FOR KIDD and what is he worth - bottom line. Remember though, the Cavs play in Quicken Loans Arena - a BANK!
