Getting Melo’s Groove Back
Before he was suspended for sucker-punching (and then cowardly scampering away) Mardy Collins last season, Carmelo Anthony was on a hellacious scoring tear. Up until that fateful night in New York, Carmelo was leading the League in scoring, and seemingly doing so effortlessly.
This season, things aren’t going so well for Melo on the offensive end, and his coach George Karl is doing everything in his power to help the young star break out of his shooting slump.
What’s up with Melo?
“The defenses, the zones, the blocks, the double-teams,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “We need to do better, find better answers for his touches, move him around better…Right now, getting Melo loose, more involved, better touches — it’s all our job and responsibility.”
With an offensively rejuvenated Allen Iverson leading the charge of late, there’s no better time than the present for Carmelo to regain his shooting touch. Because otherwise, the Nuggets will be just like A.I.’s old team: Dull.

Dude needs to be put on the low post instead of perimeter. He will rack up more points and assists or probably turnover that way.
I believed that’ll also improve Nuggets 3pt shooting as a team respectively.

melo definitely shoots too many jump shots. with the deadliest jab step in the league, and one of the quickest first steps, i think he should take it to the rack all the time. plus he got the size to take contact and finish hard.

Melo scores primarily in the Post. His main problem is putting pressure on the defense in multiple ways. Before he catches the ball he has already decided whether he is going to shoot or pass. Plus, the nuggets rarely get him the ball on the move, it’s typically a mid post iso. They should run more back screens and curls of screens or quick dives into the post like the Celtics do with Paul Pierce. If you watch how the Celtics use Pierce and Garnett, that’s how the Nugs should use Melo and Camby.

The Celtics run Garnett mostly in a high post positions where he sets up other players. Because of his shooting touch, he must be guarded, and he’s great at setting up other players. Camby is just as good a passer as KG, but as much of a threat as a shooter. However, he’s a good enough shooter that his jumper must be respected most of the time. I think Camby in the high post with dive ins by Melo, and dribble handoffs with Iverson and Melo would be effective. That’s what I meant.

They should play Melo as an undersized PF coz he’s too quick for bigger players and too strong for smaller players so putting him in the low post should be effective.
