Pat Riley Wants to Suit Up
Things are terrible in Miami at the moment. The Heat are 1-6 and they’re playing with the confidence of an acne-ridden 13 year old girl. Last night, they were soundly beaten by the Bobcats, and afterwards, their coach let them have it.
Pat Riley is convinced he could play better than some of his players.
“Me?” Riley began. “I should play. I guarantee you I should suit up. I’d play better than some of them right now. I guarantee you. I swear to God.
With an old hip, 62 years old, can’t (expletive) see. I’ll play better than some of my guys tonight. Come on.”
The good news is that Dwyane Wade is close to returning. The bad news is that this is still a team that a 62-year old man (with a surgically repaired hip) thinks he could outplay, and he might be right.

Kiyan says:
Ok, now that I’ve actually read the god damn thing… this team is in need for a shake-up. Trade with Chicago! Shaq for Wallace and Nocioni!

Co Co says:
So what happens if D Wade doesn’t come in and save the day like everyone hopes he will?
Nov.14 at 2:17 pm
neaorin says:
They’ll probably trade for Artest. (Note: I don’t really believe they’ll get him, I’m just trying to give eboy something to hang onto.)
Nov.14 at 2:17 pm
mutoni says:
eboy, it’s nothing personal. i swear!
Nov.14 at 2:20 pm
white hot eboy says:
Mutoni, I don’t mean this either, but it goes with the current state of the site, f*ck you, fu*ker.

white hot eboy says:
Co, Co, your Hotlanta boys are one game better. I wouldn’t be throwing insults around just yet, beautiful lady.
Nov.14 at 2:23 pm
mutoni says:
well, then.
Nov.14 at 2:25 pm
white hot eboy says:
Sorry, Marcel.
Nov.14 at 2:26 pm
Justin says:
Eboy,
I don’t know about you, but I smell a big trade.
This reeks of 96 when the Heat were setting offensive lows and after an awful night in Philly, Riles made the move for The Wizard, The Crossover and the Gat-Man.
Nov.14 at 2:27 pm
Myles Brown says:
If Shaq is worth $20 mil, then Riles has gots to be worthy of a couple thousand. And a pack of Now Laters.
Nov.14 at 2:29 pm
H to the izzo says:
The Heat are sh*t,deal with it Eboy-they really are
Nov.14 at 2:30 pm
white hot eboy says:
Justin, they don’t have enough pieces for a big move (Shaq has limited value because of his play and his contract and D-Wade is stuck like chuck), but there will be another medium move before February’s deadline. Believe that. Another SF is absolutley neccessary. Goodbye Smush, Wright and picks & cash.
Nov.14 at 2:30 pm
Co Co says:
Now, now E-boy. I’m not throwing around insults, I’m just saying they look like a team that needs a D Wade Finals MVP performance consistently over the next 70 games to make the playoffs. That’s all I’m saying.
Nov.14 at 2:32 pm
white hot eboy says:
Currently, you are correct. I will take the defecation comparison to heart if they continue to blow like you in front of a handsome leprachaun when Wade is back.
Nov.14 at 2:32 pm
Dan says:
The truth is, Riles is is better physical shape than Shaq, and he could out-shoot Smush blindfolded. . .
Nov.14 at 2:32 pm
white hot eboy says:
Co Co, I don’t know what Heat fans weren’t expecting that to hapen.
Nov.14 at 2:33 pm
Kevin Wilson says:
Yep, D-Wade’s going to have to shoot a lot of free throws to get those guys to the playoffs.
Nov.14 at 2:34 pm
Dan says:
There is absolutely no way that this team is going anywhere this season. Sorry eboy, but Wade doesn’t have what it takes to win a championship on his own, and Shaq is playing worse than his sophmore season in high school. He’s done. . .
Nov.14 at 2:34 pm
H to the izzo says:
Wade won’t be back to his standards for weeks after he comes back(he might not even reach that level ever again) all the while knowing one more serious injury and his name is Anfernee
Nov.14 at 2:36 pm
Co Co says:
And they already have one too many Anfernee’s on their roster
Nov.14 at 2:38 pm
white hot eboy says:
I feel like this is just a joke and Izzo is just posting under several different names. I like this. Kevin & Dan, do you root for anyone in particular?
Nov.14 at 2:38 pm
H to the izzo says:
And far too many Smush’s
Nov.14 at 2:39 pm
white hot eboy says:
Co Co, I’ll start with you then, ladies first of course. I hope Joe Johson tears his ACL and misses the rest of the season. You guys have a lot of young talent, it won’t hurt them for long, will it? Talk with me then. Who’s next?
Nov.14 at 2:40 pm
Dan says:
Particular teams, or players?
Nov.14 at 2:41 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
If Pat Riley ever did come back to play (I know it’s a joke, but bear with me), opponents would be lining up to lay some Stockton-and-Malone-type screens on him.
Nov.14 at 2:42 pm
white hot eboy says:
Both Dan.
Nov.14 at 2:45 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
eboy isn’t taking this slow start well.
Nov.14 at 2:46 pm
Co Co says:
Now why you gotta wish bad on Joe? I am not wishing anything bad on Flash! That nickname is kinda horrible by the way. I wouldn’t wish an injury on anyone. You gotta talk to Izzo not me.

Why does everyone say f*ck you so much on here?
Nov.14 at 2:47 pm
Myles Brown says:
Russ, of course.
Nov.14 at 2:47 pm
Myles Brown says:
Limited vocabulary?
Nov.14 at 2:48 pm
Dan says:
The truth is, I am a fan of the game more than teams. I support the Raptors because that’s my hometown team, but as far as players go, I am all over the map. I am a big Lebron fan, not because of the hype or the shoes, but because of his all-around talent. I love Jose Calderon, Chris Paul, Drew Gooden, Dwight Howard, Josh Howard; the list could go on and on. I don’t see why that is of any importance, but do with it as you will.
Nov.14 at 2:51 pm
white hot eboy says:
Dan, take your Lebron talent crush and imagine him on the sidelines for a large portion of the season. Do you expect the Cavs to be competitive? If you are intelligent, which I’m sure you are, you would say to yourself “boy, the Cavs are gonna suck” but know that once Lebron returned, things would be better. That’s were I’m at right now with the Heat.
Nov.14 at 2:54 pm
Myles Brown says:
12th place is better than 15th.
Nov.14 at 2:56 pm
Dan says:
Listen Eboy, I understand what you are going through; growing up, I was a HUGE Chicago White Sox fan and I loved Frank Thomas. When he went down injured, I said exactly what you are thinking in regards to the Heat. I know that a Lebronless Cavaliers team would be pretty horrendous, but I was just poking a little fun at you and your love for the Heat. BUT, in saying that I don’t believe Wade has the same sort of ability as Lebron to carry his team. I am sorry, but he just can’t do it.
Nov.14 at 2:57 pm
white hot eboy says:
Myles, I’m glad your Lakers love and my Heat love share the same spot in the conference standing’s ladder.
Nov.14 at 2:59 pm
white hot eboy says:
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, Dan. He did carry them to a title just over a year ago, so I’m not sure if you’re accurate with your assessment.
Nov.14 at 2:59 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
The Bulls aren’t missing anyone of note, we STILL suck, and I’m not hoping for players on opposing teams to suffer season-ending injuries. Low blow.
Nov.14 at 2:59 pm
H to the izzo says:
Eboy:Just be happy your football team are doing well…oh wait
Nov.14 at 3:00 pm
white hot eboy says:
Cheryl, If I have to continue this without your input, your queen status is DEFINITLEY going to Holly.
Nov.14 at 3:00 pm
Myles Brown says:
But I can still take solace in the fact that we haven’t lost to the Bobcats. Twice.
Nov.14 at 3:01 pm
white hot eboy says:
I didn’t mean it, Russ. It was just an example of what injuries can do to a team. Especially when it’s the best player on a team. I wish Joe Johnson wore a Heat uniform.
Nov.14 at 3:01 pm
Dan says:
Woah now Eboy, I wouldn’t go so far as to say Wade carried them to a championship. I have to draw the bull$!t line somewhere, and you just crossed it.
Nov.14 at 3:01 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Aren’t the Bobcats missing some key players this year?
Nov.14 at 3:02 pm
Myles Brown says:
Sean May is key to the team’s morning Krispy Kreme runs.
Nov.14 at 3:02 pm
white hot eboy says:
No one hears me. The Bobcats are good, probably better than the upstart Hawks. Actually, by standings, they are twice as good as the Hawks.
Nov.14 at 3:03 pm
Bryan says:
MORRISON.
Nov.14 at 3:03 pm
Myles Brown says:
And Adam Morrison organizes their Halo tournaments. That’s key too.
Nov.14 at 3:04 pm
neaorin says:
It seems that Primoz Brezec is MIA this year.
Nov.14 at 3:04 pm
white hot eboy says:
Dan, don’t go there with me. D-Wade won the last 4 games of that series on his own free-throw making merits. With minor contributions from Zo and Posey.
Nov.14 at 3:05 pm
Myles Brown says:
And Bennett Salvatore.
Nov.14 at 3:05 pm
H to the izzo says:
How are the Bobcats still fuctioning without their donuts and XBOX tourneys?
Nov.14 at 3:06 pm
Myles Brown says:
Gerald Wallace brought that piff. That seemed to calm everyone down.
Nov.14 at 3:06 pm
Dan says:
Alright Eboy, I’ll chalk this one up to you being dillusional from the absolutely dissmal start the Heat are off to. If you want, we can have this discussion once your beloved Wade is back from injury and the team is still playing poorly.
Nov.14 at 3:07 pm
Cheryl says:
I’m here, I’m here! Listen, all you’s… Talk to E and me in February. After Shaq gets his divorce thing over with, Ricky learns the offense and Ron’s in a Heat uni. Otherwise, shut the f*k up!
Nov.14 at 3:08 pm
Cheryl says:
How’s that, E?
Nov.14 at 3:09 pm
white hot eboy says:
Dan, I like you. You should be here more often. It’s always nice to add another wise-ass to the mix who can’t decide on what team or player to root for. Plus you’re Canadian, so your basketball knowledge is formed around the history of the Maple Leafs and their mediocrity.
Nov.14 at 3:09 pm
white hot eboy says:
Blunt, Cheryl, not so sure if it’s accurate, but blunt. Glad to see you, too.
Nov.14 at 3:10 pm
Cheryl says:
The Queen is here! The Queen is here! Long live the Queen!
Nov.14 at 3:10 pm
H to the izzo says:
Not rooting on anyone really saves me the pain
Nov.14 at 3:11 pm
white hot eboy says:
You’re smarter than you let on, Izzo.
Nov.14 at 3:12 pm
Dan says:
The truth is, Eboy, I like you too, but I am the furthest thing from a hockey fan there is. Sorry if that dissapoints you, but your smart-ass hockey remarks don’t bother me.
Nov.14 at 3:13 pm
Cheryl says:
Okay, on the serious tip, this team is struggling to score. However, teams are not scoring 100 points on them, which says a little something about team defense. Eventually, Riley will be forced to let the youngster, Cook, play and score for this team. DWade’s return certainly doesn’t guarantee perfection from a team thrown together, but they certainly will be there in April.
Nov.14 at 3:14 pm
white hot eboy says:
That sucks, Dan, because I love hockey. Not quite at a basketball level but equal to my love for football and that’s pretty high.
Nov.14 at 3:15 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Shaq can finish up his divorce stuff whenever he wants, he’ll still be 36. Or will he be 37 by then? And I’m pretty sure Ricky has never “learned the offense” anywhere. Why start now?
Nov.14 at 3:16 pm
Dan says:
You know Eboy, I have wanted to enter into one of this discussions countless times, but the truth is I am so busy with school that I seldom have the time to do more than read the posts.
Nov.14 at 3:17 pm
Bryan says:
Everyone knew when the heat won the title that they were gonna fall off.It was very much discussed about how old they were and how they were built for one season , why are we so shocked now?
Nov.14 at 3:17 pm
white hot eboy says:
Cheryl, since not many of out posting breathern care or see the Heat on a regular basis, Riley milking the shot clock each posession to keep the opposing touches to a minimum is part of the reason some of these guys are struggling to get their shots. Ricky is the perfect example of a guy who has never had to play big minutes in a slow-down game. It doesn’t suit his game. That’s an issue that is up front right now.
Nov.14 at 3:17 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Although I suppose anyone can learn the Heat offense since they don’t seem to actually have one.
Nov.14 at 3:17 pm
Myles Brown says:
I’m not.
Nov.14 at 3:17 pm
Cheryl says:
Okay Russ, you got me there, but Ricky can score in “buckets” and we need him as a deterrent to doubles on both Shaq and Wade. If he can be that at least, then I think we can close our eyes a little to the not learning the offense thing.
Nov.14 at 3:18 pm
Myles Brown says:
Shocked, that is.
Nov.14 at 3:18 pm
Donn says:
Would you trade Haslem for Artest?? Don’t know to much about their contracts but outside of Wade and Shaq, Haslem is the only guy on this team that has any trade value…
Nov.14 at 3:19 pm
H to the izzo says:
Eboy:If the Heat were to play a run and gun basketball,it would probably be uglier than Greg Popovich
Nov.14 at 3:20 pm
white hot eboy says:
Dan, come back in when you can. The water’s fine. Shia, shut the fu*k up. Contribute to the Knicks rebuilding situation. Fill out a Knicks City Dancer outfit and tease Eddy Curry in the locker room.
Nov.14 at 3:20 pm
Dan says:
Keep Haslem!!!!! He is a very talented player who compliments what little talent Shaq has left!!!!!!
Nov.14 at 3:22 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Marbury for Williams and Dorell Wright, yes or no right now.
Nov.14 at 3:22 pm
Dan says:
Thanks Eboy, I’ll be sure to join in the fun in the near future.
Nov.14 at 3:22 pm
white hot eboy says:
Since Shaq’s two opening game eggs, he has averaged 18 points over the last 4 games. And lest we forget how shi*ty he made Amare. Kill that he’s finished talk. Not dominate, yes, done, not quite.
Nov.14 at 3:23 pm
Cheryl says:
Yeah, I think Haslem is untouchable right now. Even for Artest. It wouldn’t make sense to get rid of the soul of the team during a period like this where so little is going right. UD’s play has been the one bright spot. Eboy’s namesake is the other.
Nov.14 at 3:23 pm
Myles Brown says:
Marbury should go to Golden State. If he can’t fit in there, maybe the Church of Scientology has a team.
Nov.14 at 3:24 pm
Bryan says:
Seriously though am I the one who opened the f*ck floodgates? It’s been very hostile here the past couple of days.Agreed Izzo , Jason and Ricky are the only people on the team capable of moving at a speed faster than a brisk jog at this point.
Nov.14 at 3:24 pm
Dan says:
Will they throw-in a few lessons for Shaq from Isiah and Marbury on how to meet bitc. . . I mean, women?
Nov.14 at 3:25 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Penny, Shaq and Dorell Wright for Marbury and Curry?
Nov.14 at 3:25 pm
Cheryl says:
He just seems a little sad, eboy (Shaq, that is) There’s no fire there. Riley hinted that he’d like someone to step up and call a team meeting. That says to me that Shaq’s not mentally into leadership right now. Surprised ‘Zo hasn’t stepped into that role, however.
Nov.14 at 3:25 pm
white hot eboy says:
Cheryl, Haslem’s not moving. And Eboy’s health is critical, because he is playing really well right now.
Nov.14 at 3:26 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Stack Jack, Boom Dizzle and Steph on the SAME TEAM? You want Nellie to start–uh, keep drinking?
Nov.14 at 3:27 pm
Bryan says:
The sad thing Russ is that the Knicks would make that trade because they’re more concerned about being in the news than good basketball. They would love to be able to say “WE HAVE SHAQ AND PENNY” in a headline, which would be good news in 1995, but in 2007 not so much.
Nov.14 at 3:27 pm
Co Co says:
Okay, Eboy last thing, If the Hawks lose Joe Johnson and suck the rest of the year it will just be business as usual. However, if the Heat are supposed to be one of the elite teams in the East, then shouldn’t they at least accidentally win a few games without Wade. They’ve been horrible! My Hawks are coming for you next week. Tonight we have the Bobcats and I’ll have a full game recap later. By full game I mean the final score.
Nov.14 at 3:28 pm
white hot eboy says:
We do realize that there are 76 games left n the season, right. I’m not worried. Everyone else is just loving the record. The only team in our division that poses a legit threat is Orlando (Sorry BET)and if they plod through a point in the season, well make up the games we are losing now.
Nov.14 at 3:28 pm
Donn says:
I love Haslem’s game myself….Went to watch the Heat when they came to Oakland pre Wade shoulder injury (DWade is a lot quicker and faster in person) and Haslem is just so solid. He does a lot of the little things and he hustles his a** off… but i’m just saying, it looks like the Heat need to do more major moves to shake up their team…They might have to move Haslem for that to happen…then again, having Artest on the Heat still wouldn’t guarantee anything but how fun is going to be with Artest and Tricky Ricky on the same team in South Beach…instant roller coaster…
Nov.14 at 3:29 pm
white hot eboy says:
Co Co, I love you, but I had no aspirations of the Heat being elite. Good enough to be in the playoffs, yeah, but not elite.
Nov.14 at 3:30 pm
Myles Brown says:
Any team that makes Stephen Jackson a Captain deserves Stephon Marbury. I think it could work. Those guys would keep him in check-it’s not like pushing around KVH-and he could contribute in that uptempo aggressive offense. Off the bench of course.
Nov.14 at 3:32 pm
Cheryl says:
The only elite team in the East right now is Boston (right now reiterated). Detroit lost to Portland last night and Chicago’s struggling too. The east has flip flopped so far this season (only 7 games in, mind you.) Anyway, I gotta get back to work.
Nov.14 at 3:34 pm
white hot eboy says:
Bye, Cheryl, I mean Queen Cheryl. I’m glad my threat of Holly taking over the throne got you back in. I’ll need to remember that for future reference.

Nov.14 at 5:12 pm
Bleek911 says:
D Wade fills almost every hole this current roster has, although a capable small forward is needed. For this team a Rasual Butler would be better than a Ron Artest for the simple fact Butler does not demand shots. Wade gives them 25-30 points a night, 8-10assists, 10 freethrows and opens up all the shooters more effectively than Shaq threw drive and kicks. Wade is probrably the best finishing guard in the NBA so the Heat always have the option to run with him on the court. Wade will also get O’Neal better looks as he will instantly be the most effective post entry passer on the team. The biggest issue for this team has been rebounding the ball. Every loose ball ends up with the opposing team unless Haslem is in the area. Daequan Cook should flourish once Wade is back but cannot be relied upon in the playoffs. Dorell Wright can be effective off the bench as can Hardaway but neither are NBA starters at this point. Wade completely changes this team when he comes back.

Nov.14 at 11:10 pm
gdongdon says:
Yeah..I have to agree with the general consensus..the Heat are quite the sad bunch! They’re absolutely nothing without Wade, and even with him, they’re hardly anything. And sorry to say, but Shaq is SO past done. He’s shifted from the role of superman to robin, but I think it’s time for him to don the role player’s cape.

I hope that Shaq will pull a Starbury on Pat Riley.

Miami WILL make the playoffs, even with their slow start. And Shaq not doing well still plays better than most centers in the league. So keep sleeping on Miami. They’re gonna start sneaking pass all the teams now that Wade is back!
Nov.16 at 3:55 am
Kevin says:
i started writing it in the summer and just never got around to finishing it.. but, i think Shaq should call it quits after this year.. i see them missing the playoffs if Wade misses any more games, and even if Wade is superman for the rest of the season, they’ll squeak in and lose in the 1st or 2nd round at best.. the rule changes over the past few years have made it really difficult for Shaq to thrive.. the game is promoting speed and movement now whereas Shaq has always been primarily a power player.. he never really had the touch around the basket quite the same way an Olajuwon did, and he never had the mid-range game of a Ewing or Robinson either.. he used to have the quickness and explosiveness to hide the fact that he really couldn’t shoot outside of 10 feet but thats disappeared.. so even though i’m a huge fan of Shaq and i think his legacy in the NBA will be held on to for decades to come, i think its time for him to say farewell.. put it this way, even if Shaq is able to stay out of foul trouble to play for 30-32 minutes a game (which is respectable at his age), i picture him averaging 15 and 6 while hovering around .500 from the free throw line.. if he had a really strong nucleus around him, and he only had to be the 3rd or 4th option, i can picture him making an impact.. because in key stretches, esp early in the game, if Shaq has it going, there’s still nothing you can do as an opposing team except for double him.. gets you lots of open jumpers. problem for the Heat this year is.. Kapono’s gone, Posey’s gone, Eddie Jones is gone.. Davis is capable but he’s more of a slasher & shoots off the dribble, and Smush Parker has good shooting games once every 3-4 games at best.. :/ to close this off, i’ll admit that i’m a huge Heat fan but my expectations for them this year continue to get lower and lower and lower.. it was close last year, but now i think i can say this with utmost confidence - Mourning is a better center than Shaq at this point. Jason Williams does look to be in decent shape this year though, his shot isn’t falling that consistently yet but there seems to be more of a bounce in his step from what i’ve seen..
