David Stern to Seattle: We’re Not Coming Back
As Clay Bennett and the people of Seattle continue to battle it out over the Seattle Sonics’ future home address, David Stern has kept quiet (for the most part) about the ugly situation, a decision that has angered many in the basketball community. Yesterday, the Commish spoke out and his comments did little to lift the spirits of Sonics fans:
“I’d love to find a way to keep the team there,” Stern said, “because if the team moves, there’s not going to be another team there, not in any conceivable future plan that I could envision, and that would be too bad.”
In other words: Find a way to keep this team here, or you’ll never have another NBA franchise again.
If there was ever any doubt as to whose side David Stern is on, consider the fact that he’s attending Clay Bennett’s induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame as Bennett’s “presenter”.
To their credit, Sonics fans have put up a valiant fight, but for the moment, their team looks good as gone.

I can’t imagine the NBA without Seattle Sonics. Stern needs to consider the legacy the league would be leaving behind. Let Oklahoma start their own franchise.

i agree with captain usa except that the league ould do with contraction rather than expansion for the next decade or so but then again if stern is looking to get the nba to be more popular in red states then there are fewer places it makes more sense to move a franchise OUT OF than seattle, and fewer it makes more sense to move it TO than oklahoma city but yes it’d really be too bad

LA could always use a third team. Then when Kobe got sick of the Lakers drama he could just suit up for the LA Sonics, cause lets be real here it’s 2007 and no one still wants to play for the clippers.

If each of Shawn Kemp’s kids put up a decent percentage of their monthly child support from now til next summer, I’m SURE they can build a new arena out there… use your heads people!

hahaha Hoop Dreamz. I was gonna say they could just give Shawn Kemps kids construction hats, have them build the arena, and then have them suit up for gametime.
