Chris Mullin Coming Home?

by Marcel Mutoni

In the minds of the New York-area editors and writers, it’s only a matter of days before Isiah Thomas is unceremoniously handed his pink slip. As a result, we’re getting daily speculation as to who’s going to replace him and try his hand at rescuing this train-wreck of a franchise known as the Knicks.

Everyone from Donnie Walsh, Jerry West, and Jerry Colangelo has been mentioned as being in the running for the job.

Today’s candidtate is New York native Chris Mullin. From the NY Post:

Golden State GM Chris Mullin is expected to emerge as a top candidate for the Knicks GM job if Isiah Thomas eventually is fired from his dual role as coach and president, The Post has learned.

Mullin, who has stubbornly hung on to his haircut from the 1950s (A decision I wholeheartedly endorse, by the way), is extremely popular in the Bay Area and has at least one more guaranteed year as Golden State Warriors GM.

By the time Isiah gets the boot, the city’s papers will try to convince us that just about every New York City basketball icon who ever lived is about to get hired. I can only hope that Kenny Anderson’s name will appear in the rumor pages before the dust settles.

Really Ken? I heard Steph. With a clause which allows him to get with interns without the details being released to the world.

I’m with Ken, as we speak Bassy is being tutored by the greatest GM in pro sports…According to Forbes anyway.

Berman doesn’t have sources outside of Steph, Steph’s assistant and Berman’s kids. The NY media is obviously bored. Either way, I’m sure Sunday’s editions of the Daily News will have Lupica waxing poetic about Lenny Elmore and by Friday, Pete Vescey will nominate World B. Free for GM, Fly Williams as head coach and Marbury will get benched for James “Speedy” Williams……………the last option of which I would be 100% in favor of and that’s not even a dig at Steph.

Kenny Smith would be perfect man for the job. He’s already a part time commentator. So he knows the team really well.

I guess this means that the rumor about the ‘Romping With Marbury’ internship program being history is true. But Chris Mullins is perfect, welcome home! With rumors flying that he will soon be an ex-Knick, Stephon Marbury’s groundbreaking Madison Square Garden internship program, “Romping With Starbury,” appears in peril. The program arranged for women 21-and-under to have fun with Marbury in the backseat of his SUV. “This is a sad day,” said the Knicks’ president and coach, Isiah Thomas.

Long live the wiffle!!!! As a lifelong Big East fan, I would like nothing more than to see Mullin back in the Apple. His first action should be the long overdue hiring of the one and only Mark Jackson. That would be a dream pairing. As a lifelong Celtics fan, that would breath much needed life into the old school rivalry of Celts-Knicks. With gray hair in hand, I still remember the classic days of King vs. Bird, and the competing chants of M-V-P at both the great Gardens (or GAH-den, as we say)! This would bring the Eastern COnference back full circle. All we need now is Moses and the Philly boys back!

Wasn’t Mullin considered a bad GM for a while too? Does trading Troy Murphy and his clone for Whooo! erase that?
