Cleveland’s Long International Nightmare Is (Almost) Over

Sasha Pavlovic ended his holdout and signed a three year deal with the Cavs.

(Seriously now, Varejao, enough with the silliness.)

having recently educated myself on sports economics and contracts and their absurd amounts…do any of you in the US really think Sideshow deserves $9mil for his part? Gooden dont even make that much and they crazy for him. I think dude diggin himself a deep hole and his dumb hair aint gonna keep him afloat.

I disagree Best Yet. I think Sideshow has done very well for himself. But the most recent contracts signed - Duncan and Sideshow - show the huge gap between players when it comes to signing contracts. Duncan is willing to take less in order to get a better cast around him whereas sideshow wants to get as much as he personally can make.

TD is interest in team legacy, Sideshow is like a kid in a candy store.

And for the record, I couldn’t spell Sideshow’s real name hence my constant use of his amusing nickname.

Tim Duncan has restored my faith in athletes by seeing ahead and realising that winning is far more important than an additonal 10 mill. I understand Sideshow has to make his money (unlike Duncan he hasn’t been earning big numbers for his entire career so now feels he has to get his) but it’s incredibly refreshing from Duncan. Couldn’t ever see Vince Carter doing the same…

I didnt wanna attempt spelling it either. I see your point when you say he’s done well for himself, but he’s still in the earlier stage of his career. To me, he still has alot to prove. As for TD, he’s humble. He sees bball as a game, a priviledge. He’s always been loyal to SAS and knows by taking less cash for better support, SA will continue to enjoy their glory years. They will take care of their #1 asset.
As for some others…

well let’s see, T robot had already been in the league for 10 years and a max contract under his belt, and he’s gonna have a job in the nba until he decides to call it quit. varejao was in the league for 3 years and a rookie contract under his belt, and does not have a job in the nba.
i’d say they shouldn’t have the same contract negotiating mentality.

[…] The Cavs are on the verge of coming to terms with Anderson Varejao, now the last holdout from the squad that represented (albeit poorly) the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals last season. […]
