Gilbert Arenas Fights Funny
You might recall that Arenas missed an EA Sports event in Vancouver because he couldn’t catch a flight out of DC (something about not having his passport). The thing is that Gil couldn’t get out of the country because he was giving his girlfriend the cold shoulder because of an argument they had. Dude literally went on strike from his girl and spent a week living in a gym:
I think all men should do this when they have a disagreement. This is Relationship 101. When you have a fight with “the other,” don’t answer their calls and don’t answer their pages. That usually gets the point across that you’re not talking to them. So, I held out for seven days. I went on strike for seven days and stayed at the gym for seven days. I slept in the gym. They got nice couches in there and it just kept me in the gym working on my knee and stuff.
So, back to the EA event, I didn’t have a passport or driver’s license to actually go to Canada because I was on strike and I didn’t want to go back to the house because she kicked me out. She kicked me out of the car on a Sunday, I had to wait till the following Sunday to talk to her again. Now we’re good.
This, more than anything else I believe, is why people adore Gilbert Arenas: He’s not afraid to show his humanity. At the end of the day, he’s just a dopey, funny dude with problems like you and I. Oh yeah, he also happens to be able to hit 35 footers with ease.
(By the way, Gil wants you guys at the office to get cracking on his next SLAM cover with his own SLAM shoe.)

The cold shoulder is not an effective solution. The key is to find someone you can get along with without having to give the cold shoulder. Let me know if you succeed in doing this, I want to know how.

wait, did you really not copy past this? So we was on 16th and Constitution and she kicked me out of the car and I had to walk all the way to the gym. It was probably a mile, but I had on smaller shoes. You know, I wear 13s, but I had on 12s because they matched the outfit I was wearing so my feet were hurting and I didn’t have any cab money to take a cab and that all played a part.

The cold shoulder is usually an ineffective tool. She’s usually just letting you think she’s gotten over whatever the problem is until she recharges her battery enough to bring the sh*t up again when you think everything is all good.

There’s so many great details to this, but my favorite is the part about him wearing a whole shoe size too small to match his outfit. So when he walks to the gym it physically hurts him, not just his pride. When he tells us about stuff like this, there’s something so satisfying about seeing Gil win in the end.

I love Gil for reminding me that just because they make it to the NBA, it doesn’t mean they are different than us. Or wait, actually, it means they are totally different than us because if my guy spent a week at the gym NOT answering my calls, he could thank me after he won MVP because boy would be living at the gym for a lot longer than a week! you need to update your blog. But I will say, I’ve gotta agree with you on the Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye picks. I used “A Change is Gonna Come” for an assignment in journalism class the other day. We had to pick one song to have on repeat to reflect our lives. That was mine because, whether things are going good, or whether they are going bad, eventually, a change is going to come. I would have had to put some Miles Davis and Otis Redding in there rather than Van Morrison.. still, a good list though.

I can’t see him staying at the gym for 7 days either. I know the Verizon Center is plush, but it is not home. That’s the story he probably told her, but I am not buying it. If a woman has two kids, a man with a boat load of money, and a nanny, then she can clean the d#@$ car. What else is she doing? It’s not like she has a career. Gil is funny, but he tells entirely too much of his business.

The whole story sounds pretty dum. What he’s saying is he abandon his kids for a week. Because he wanted to prove a point. Missed his flight to Canada that was already paid for, because he didn’t want to go back home for his passport. That was a slap in the face for EA Sports.

A relationship out of convience. He’s stuck with this girl because she had 2 kids by him. It’s all about his millions, he doesn’t love this girl. Because if he did he wouldn’t announce to the world how he dogged her for a week. He even dogged his 2 kids in the process.
