I gotta admit, when I first heard of Nellie teaming up with Baron and Whoo Jackson and aiming for the playoffs, I laughed. Hard. Now I agree, it was smart to give him his money and let him lead the Warriors to another upset. “Ballerina” Nowitsky is scared already.

Thoughts, Russ?

First. And I’m glad this silliness is done. Nelly deserves the money. He’s most responsible for the playoff run, which earned the Warriors more than enough revenue to pay the man.

Pfah. That’s what I get for writing anything longer than “first.”

I met an American guy in an airport in London,we got to talking about basketball and the Mavs,he told me that he once saw Nellie at a karaoke bar singing “I’ll be Your Baby Tonight”.Whether I believe him or not is a different story, but a great image nonetheless

Was it Mark Cuban you were speaking to? And if so, did you punch him in the face?

I’m not happy for Nellie at all. I find that so manipulative and destructive to a team long term. Of course, it was him who got them to the playoffs and into the Mavs heads. But man, why doesn’t it matter that just because you can get something it doesn’t make it right to get it.

Wasn’t Nellie’s original contract to do the best he could? Why is doing your job to the best of your ability grounds for a massive raise after one year? And where can I get a job like that?

he should’ve negotiated bonuses in his initial contract.. like x more regular season victories gives me an x amount extra pay, or a playoff bonus, etc.

Hisham says:
would he have negotiated a pay-cut if he did worse than expected?

If politicians could be as free-minded as Don Nelson has been as a coach…

I love Don Nelson like a drunken uncle, but I hate this. Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Andris Biedrins, Monta Ellis, Al Harrington and Matt Barnes all need to get in there and demand raises too. Because, you know, they may have had something to do with the Warriors playoff success as well. Disgusting. I hope when Baron misses 30 games and they go 40-42 and miss the playoffs this year Nellie gives the money back. Jerk.

I know Nellie’s been grumbling about a new contract, but it does make me wonder. He signed a contract. Didn’t he know what his second year salary would be? Why grumble now?
