Kobe is the third best player on this USA team. Carmelo is easily our best international player and Lebron’s game is a perfect complement. Kobe looked ordinary against Mexico last night and his broken ankle play ranks right up there with MJ/Iverson’s, but the difference is Iverson is a legend and a Hall of Fame player. I’m sure Bodie will have an excuse of how our “stopper” got broke down.

Kobe didn’t look good last night, but he sure looked better than every one on the Heat roster.

If scoring is all it is, then yes, Carmelo is our best international player. He throws himself inside and gets to the FT line. Though I do have to say it’s amazing how Bill Walton points out Kobe’s mistakes and acts as if Carmelo isn’t forcing things out there at times. Melo doesn’t even look to pass in halfcourt. Kobe had a bad game against Mexico and here come the haters to discredit his performance in the tournament otherwise.. He and JKidd have been the keys to this team. JKidd on offense, Kobe on defense.. without those two, Melo and LeBron would look just as they did on previous USA teams.

I think Kobe’s overdoing it a bit on the defensive end (hence his getting into repeated early foul trouble) for effect, but better to overdo defense than not do it at all. Melo’s great–and the best low-post scorer in international ball, for what that’s worth–but Kobe Bean Bryant is the best overall basketball talent in the known universe. Period.

Russ, you’re losing it! I think the site problems leaked into your mind. And Bodie, as long as you realize that your boy sucked, it makes all your asinine Heat playoff win talk all the more amusing. Remember, 27-4. You know the deal, young man. Tonight, USA 115 Puerto Rico 93.

Please name better overall basketball players. Kobe can defend 1-3, shoot from outside, slash and finish at the rim, stop-and-pop from midrange, and (yes, like it or not) pass. And I’m not even a big Kobe fan, I just watch an awful lot of basketball.
