W.I.N.N.E.R.S.
and a rare correction
Getting this out of the way cause we’ve got better stuff coming that might take a little tweaking. It’s Friday, Fri-day, however you want to say it. This weekend is extremely loaded for me and I’m looking forward to it. Game 7 of McGrady’s latest first round purgatory, the boxing match, BOWLING AT THE PORT AUTHORITY, riding my bike 42 miles through the 5 boroughs on Sunday, crashing a high school reunion so I can be the creepy old man… lots of fun.
One piece of business to take care of. I was wrong about Dirk being the first MVP (if he were to win it) to get knocked out in the first round. My research was flawed because I didn’t realize Moses won two of them with Houston. In my defense I was an infant when he was winning MVPs. And what MVP changes teams the year after he wins it, huh? But still if I made anyone look bad for putting false info out there, I’m sorry.
Oh, and Ron Ron is not going to jail. That’s good news for whoever his cellmate would have been.
UTAH: Andrei Kirilenko. Nice to have you back Omega Red.
GOLDEN STATE: So many ways to go. Baron was as heroic as the bearded Leonidas. Matt Barnes stepped up again. But it was the poise and veteran leadership of Stephen Jackson, not to mention the three point marksmanship that kept the Warriors together. Also, their fans were amazing but I feel like I’d be kissing up to give them another award.
And yes, Dirk played like Xerxes.
Have a great weekend everyone!

“POISE AND VETERAN LEADERSHIP OF STEPHEN JACKSON” wow, pretty sure that has never been said before

Sam, that is the BEST analogy of BDiddy and NO-WIN-SKI I’ve seen yet. NO-WIN-SKI, the improbablly tall, mildly gay, seemingly unflappable giant from another land, against the smaller, bearded, huge-hearted old WARRIOR (I said it) who with his fearless, never say die group of Warriors (boy this is too easy), stands up to the giant’s forces and ……well at least it wasn’t a moral victory for the Warriors like the 300!

Sam - As fruity as Xerxes was in 300, there is one small difference. Xerxes won!

Leonidas lost the battle to Xerxes but the Spartan WARRIORS won the war! It’s easy to forget that Xerxes wins because of all the laughter in the theater directed at him.
But in this classic photo from a year ago: http://www.themightymjd.com/2006/06/22/the-focus-of-a-champion/
it looks like Dirk borrowed Xerxes’ nose ring for his ear.

Dirk looked pretty fugged up on the pic from the MJD. Man, he is getting a lot of sh*t talked about him, if you thinks it’s bad nationally. It 50(X) worse in the Dallas area, dude is getting skewered.

Damn, you guys sure loved 300 didn’t ya? The references have been gathering for a few weeks now. Interesting. For the record, enjoyed it too, though the one on one fight in Troy still makes my day. Dirk must be rolling in his grave..

Sam, as reported by TNT last night, Wes Unseld was also knocked out in the first round during an MVP year. Also, he won rookie of the year that same season. Just the facts!

Simmy Sosa says:
I am still not sold on Dirk being the MVP of this season. If you look at what the Suns did with Nash on and off the court, you’ll see that they lost the majority of the games he didn’t play in. Also, I know the MVP is given for the regular season, but how can you give it to Dirk after he was a ghost practically this whole series?
May.4 at 4:51 pm
allenp says:
Moses averaged like 24 and 17 when he lost in a best of three series. He should never be compared to Dirk, ever.
May.4 at 5:46 pm
KMG says:
I’m with Simmy Sosa: The MVP votes have nothing to do with the playoffs, but if they haven’t been cast yet, the Dallas ouster is enough to secure a spot on Nash’s shelf for trophy #3.

Are the Lakers going to take Snoop back? You can’t just jump on the bandwagon of a divisional rival when your squad gets bounced fromt the playoffs. Shame Snoop.

Coach snoop can do whatever he wants! I wouldn’t be surprised to see the whole laker team at that game they needed to see what a playoff game looks like just as a friendly reminder!

Dirk still deserves the MVP of the regular season. 67 wins? Sounds like them 69 wins Bulls. Dirk keep ya head up young one. Ya’ll acting like there’s been a repeat champ in the last 4 or 5 years. Like any dynasty, the process is never overnight or created in two seasons. Give GS credit.Look out for that Cavs vs Warriors finals matchup. Remember where you heard it first. Cavs in 7. Lebron Finals MVP. Solid.
May.5 at 4:51 pm
J-Bird says:
hate to break it to you but, the Cavs arent that good
May.5 at 9:53 pm
DarKnight says:
Cavs without Lebron = Lakers without Kobe = NBDL As bad as the East is, and as great as Bron is (almost beat the Pistons by himself last year!), they could actually legitimately make it to the Finals - where they’d lose in no more than 5 games to San Anton.

Can anyone help me out here? Years back there was an article on Amare in highschool, do anyone know which Slam it was in (whose on the cover?) wanna go back and check for it in the stash. thanks.
