The Warriors lose it at the line, the Jazz win it with big plays
One game last night, and Russ and Mutoni were all over it. The Warriors couldn’t close it out at the free throw line, Derek Fisher played heroically with all that was on his mind, Memo hit a big shot, Deron Williams hit the big shot, Fisher guarded Baron on a last second attempt to win it. Overtime, where the Jazz pulled away.
The NBA Playoffs can be very exciting, and last night they were. Most of the series have been just eh, but every Golden State game has been thrilling, even the blowouts. Utah has a 2-0 lead, a reborn Andrei Kirilenko, Deron and Boozer playing as Charles Barkley would say “fammtassstiik”, and the knowledge that if they can win one of two in Golden State, then the series is pretty much over. The Warriors have their home fans. Neither one of these teams has lost a home game in the playoffs thus far. Both venues have been giving away t-shirts in the team color, picking up where the Miami white out left off last year.
Golden State had the game won but couldn’t finish, much like game 5 at Dallas. Will they live to regret that? Time will tell.
I really just want to jump on to the praising Derek Fisher bandwagon. The Dee Brown injury (ouch!) gave it that added element of Hollywood drama, and Derek somehow was able to do his job very well with thoughts of his daughter and family on his mind. Derek Fisher’s daughter’s health is more important than a silly little playoff game, and you have to love the happy ending last night. Especially for Derek taking the opportunity to use the platform to talk about retinoblastoma and advising people to get checked. All the best to the Fisher family.
Tonight there is a playoff game that will feature neither the Warriors, nor the Jazz. Bulls, Pistons… entertain us.
LOST WAS TOO CRAZY AND AMAZING AND CONFUSING AND FRUSTRATING AND SHOCKING TO DISCUSS IN A PUBLIC FORUM.

I think the Pistons should rest Chauncey, Rip and Webber for the rest of this series and the next one. Sheed and Tayshaun can probably sweep both the Bulls and the “uncoasting” (holla Reggie!) Cavs. No chance of being entertained tonight.

I guess Derek Fisher’s God is more powerful than the Gods that the Warriors pray to. Missing 3 key freethrows? Not cool. Warriors do not lose at home.

Game 2 was most important to the Warriors because the Jazz do not know what they are about to experience in Oakland with the home court crowd. they will get used to it by game 6. Warriors need to grab 3 in a row.

you need to change the title to “free t-shirts that are not the same color as the road team’s uniform = undefeated at home.” I still haven’t got over the stupid idea to hand out red t-shirts at the raps’ home games when the nets were wearing their red uniforms. worst marketing idea gone wrong I’ve ever seen.

Retinoblastoma, is tough shit. Really awful thing to happen to anybody. Fisher showed some guts to play through that, but I think he should take some time off and be there for his girl. He might regret not doing afterwards.

By the end of the weekend the Warriors can very well have the series tied up 2-2. The Jazz fans need to realize that the Warriors could/should have won both games 1 & 2 in Utah. I feel like if the series is 2-2, then Utah will have the pressure on them big time in game 5 because the Warriors will be fired up going back to Mormonville. If the Warriors win game 5, then the series is over because game 6 in Oakland will be the most ruckus venue to ever witness a professional basketball game!

I find it very funny that so many people are saying that the series could be 2-0 Warriors if they were only able to close out. Um, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t closing out a BIG part of the game? Hell, if the Rockets were only able to close out, the Warriors wouldn’t even be playing the Jazz to begin with. The Warriors fans need to realize that the Jazz are a very good basketball team.

DubsGonDoIt says:
Russ, Warriors fans realize the Jazz are good. Do you also want Warriors fans to overlook the fact that we’ve lead at the end of the fourth in both games. In game 1 if S-Jax hits the 3 & in game to if Pietrus hits either of his free throws or Baron hits his second…whe’d be up 2-0. The Warriors fans, just like the team aren’t just going to lay down & say the Jazz are a better team. We are right there in this series.

Warriors fans DO realize that the Jazz are a very good team, the Jazz can successfully run with GSW (something Dallas couldn’t do), they totally DOMINATE the Warriors on the glass (something Dallas couldn’t do), and they execute 20x better than the Warriors (something Dallas couldn’t do). And even after all this, the Warriors had things tied up with less than a minute to go in Game 1 and in Game 2 were leading by 5 with less than a minute left. It’s not so much a thing of disrespect for the Jazz, but us Warriors fans know that it could’ve easily been 2-0 Warriors going back to Oakland; I think its more about people being so quick to write off the Warriors in this series when they should realize that it could’ve gone either way at the end of both games so far in this series.

Russ Bengtson says:
Guys, I’m not against the Warriors. I’m just saying that’s a lot of ifs and could’ves. The Jazz ultimately may not win the series, but there’s a HUGE difference between COULD HAVE been up 2-0, and actually BEING up 2-0.
May.10 at 10:58 am
DubsGonDoIt says:
Agreed, the Jazz played great & are up 2-0. They were able to play the Warriors tempo, dominated the boards, stopped the Warriors fast breaking & points in the paint. With all that being said why were the Warriors in position to possibly win the first 2 games? That is where I am at in my thinking. The Warriors got out played and still had chances to win, so I can’t stand people saying they’re finished. This series is still wide open & the Dubs have a great shot at winning the series.

Orlando could’ve easily swept the Pistons if they’d just been able to close out their four losses.

ALX8725 says:
Russ, I see your point…. Good point.
May.10 at 11:02 am
DubsGonDoIt says:
Ryan, Orlando being swept was completely different IMO. The Warriors going back to Oakland for games 3 & 4 does not equal the same prognoses as Orlando going home in that series. The Warriors are going to play with confidence, fire & passion. Orlando didn’t even show up to the post season.

One way or another, the Warriors will eventually learn how to close out on the road. Hopefully it’s in this series.. but at least they got off the bus for their road games(unlike Orlando.) For the dubs to be in position to win both games while being statistically dominated in rebounding, free throws, paint points, and whatever else you wanna throw out there is a hell of a testament to just how scrappy they are.. they’re not gonna lay down, and this series will go 7 games. I hope someone remembers the fundamentals of basketball, however, because before you dribble and dunk.. u have to grab a rebound. That’s probably the most frustrating thing watching the first two games… seeing the Jazz no-names off the bench running lay up drills off 2nd and 3rd oppurtunities.

Hey guys -
I’m a HUGE Jazz fan. I don’t have anything negative to say about Golden State. In fact, I think both GSW and UJ have the best sportsmanship around. I watched Williams and Davis talking on the floor and laughing with each other. It was a nice change from Houston. I also hope that GSW fans are not as cruel as Houston Fans. There is absolutely no reason to chant “UTAH SUCK” when obviously, they don’t suck as bad as Houston. HA HA HA!!!

MBOW32 hey man I appreciate your comment & I respect what you said & how you feel. However, coming from a Warriors fan, the bay is going to be all over the Jazz. We saw how the Jazz crowd treated our players (S-Jax & Baron in particular). I think Oakland will be as hostile as Houston towards the Jazz if not more so. To be honest I think they deserve it too.

I second what DubsGonDoIt just mentioned, we noticed plenty of Jazz fans giving Jax shit on national tv, and Baron too… we got their back when they come back home. I noticed in game one, Jax was fouled on a trip to the basket and his momentum carried him into the stands… he apologized to the fans that he ran into and asked if they were alright, one of the fans had a sign that said something about how “the league needs another $50k Jackson…” something something, etc. Oh yeah, and not only did Dallas fans rip off the whole “We Believe” thing the Warriors rightfully own, but Jazz fans too! Do Utah and Dallas fans alike have no creativity that they have to steal slogans from their oppponents??? BTW, “We Believe” was started because when it looked like the Warriors weren’t going to make the playoffs for the 13th straight season, us GSW fans rallied behind the Warriors and came up with the whole “We Believe” thing. Utah and Dallas have been in the playoff race all season, lame.

No, Nadav, the chick from the helicopter is probably going to end up being the real Henry Gale’s (the black guy whose identity was stolen by the villian Ben) daughter. The little girl that young Ben was digging on could be Rosseau, or some of the boards have been saying.
The Detroit series has been a good one (not great like Spurs/Suns, but fairly exciting), but for some reason I’m just not into the Cavs/Nets. And these are the 2 that come on at a decent hour for AWJs. I know LeBron is King and all and his skills are off the charts, but he is so all-business that I am not enjoying watching him. There’s something about him that doesn’t make me excited to watch him play. I really am not sure what it is…

Cheryl: I hear you about not getting excited for Cavs games. Lebron is an amazing player who does amazing things, yet the games fail to live up to the hype. I place the blame squarely on the NBA’s hype machine. Cavs games are hyped through the roof due to Lebron’s “marketability”(not sure if that’s a real word or if I just pulled a Reggie Miller). When the reality fails to live up to the unrealistic hype, it’s not Lebron’s fault. He’s focused and businesslike in a fashion that is similar to Tim Duncan. It’s a bad thing that Drew Gooden is the most exciting player on the Cavs, even though Lebron does things that are ridiculous. Stupid marketizationism. I’m getting unrattled.

Ok. I admit the fans for EVERY NBA team can be giant assholes. I would have to say that the players have better attitudes than the fans do. I’m not going to criticize ANYONE from the Warriors because I think they are terrific players and show a tremendous amount of sportsmanship. I was happy to see how well the players from Warriors & Jazz were getting along on the court. I am a JAZZ fan and will cheer for them until the end, but if the Warriors happen to beat them, I will be cheering for them to win the title.

I decided that instead of commenting about the Utah Jazz’s 10 point overtime win over the Golden State Warriors in an exciting game 2 lead by Deron Williams and the Carlos Boozer, I decided to comment about something more important: Derek Fisher’s dramatic and inspiring return to the team after his game-one absence. Fisher, a former Golden State Warriors for two years, missed game one of the series due to personal reasons, which he did not disclose, except for saying that it had to with one of his four children. Jerry Sloan spoke to Fisher a few hours before the game and did something that he did not have to do: leave Fisher on the active list for the game. Although Fisher was still in New York at the hospital he still hoped to help out his team as soon as it was possible for him to do so. The game started and soon enough reserve point guard, Dee Brown, landed awkwardly on a teammate and suffered a neck injury leaving them with only one point guard on the roster. In the early third-quarter, Fisher arrived at the arena. Deron Williams drew his fourth foul with just under 5 minutes to go in the third-quarter and the Jazz had no other true point guard to replace him. Right on cue, Derek Fisher came out of the tunnel in full uniform. The crowd of 20,000 gave him a loud standing ovation as he came straight from the tunnel to the scorer’s table to check into the game. His defense was badly needed on Baron Davis. Deron Williams hit a game-tying floater with 4 seconds to go and then Fisher’s lockdown defense helped force the game into overtime as he forced Baron Davis into a tough shot that would he missed, which could of won the game for Warriors. In overtime, Fisher who had not practiced since Sunday, hit a big three-pointer and two free throws which helped build a 10 point lead for Utah, as overtime came to an end with the Jazz being victorious. Fisher had inspired the Jazz to the win. As the overtime began to come to an end, Fisher looked up and pointed his hands to the sky as he was playing the entire game with a heavy heart and his mind focused on something other than basketball. In an interview on the court after the game, Fisher told the world that his 10-month-old daughter, Tatum, had treatment on a rare form of cancer that was lodge behind her eye. Luckily enough, for the Fisher family they discovered the disease before it spread throughout the body. Fisher said that he did not know he got through the game and he said that he was speechless about what he had been through. Fisher also said that the operation on his daughter was successful. This really puts basketball into perspective compared to the other more important things in life. I find it inspirational that Fisher came to the arena right off the plane, and came in to help his team win the game despite the fact that his daughter’s life had been in jeopardy only hours earlier. I cannot even imagine how many things were going through his mind throughout the game.

Those two games were tight. If Pietrus would have hit one of those two missed free throws, I think the Warriors would have won game two. Oh, sorry Russ, I guess free throws are a BIG part of winning and thus, I should not even speculate on that. I was going to mention that maybe Phoenix would have won game one against the Spurs if Nash did not crack his nose but hey, I guess showing up is a BIG part of the game. Perhaps we should never analyze what teams could have done and should have done to prevail? But isn’t that a BIG part of the analysis? The point is that these games were really close and could have gone either direction. GState will finish better at home as they have done all season. Yes, the Jazz are good.
