Patrick Patterson Day 4

Being on TV, going uptown and playing with OJ.

While he spends a week in NYC preparing for Saturday’s Jordan Classic, Patrick Patterson is sharing his thoughts with slamonline. Click on the Jordan Brand logo at the top left of the slamonline homepage to read Patrick’s diary from all week. Today is his last entry in advance of tomorrow night’s game at Madison Square Garden.

As told to Ben Osborne

So today, me, Kyle Singler and Gary Johnson got up and walked over to tape Cold Pizza. It went pretty well. They put make up on us and everything, but it was cool. Then we drove uptown to Rucker Park and shot around a bit. We played like four games of knockout and I didn’t win once. Donte won a game, and Eric Gordon, Derrick Rose and Chris Wright won the others. I’d never been to Rucker before. It was cool, real historic. I kind of thought they would’ve added extra seats on the side since it became so famous, but as it is it just has a very historic look.

After Rucker they took us over to Gauchos Gym to scrimmage. My team was up like 20 points in the first half, but the other team came back and tied it and the game ended in a tie. We didn’t want to let it end like that but they were like, save it for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the game. At the Garden. I’m definitely very excited for it.

So people want to know what it was like to play on the same team as OJ? Well, he is a dominant player. Made things a lot easier for me so I didn’t have to do everything. Despite all the publicity he got and the people talking about, ‘there’s not gonna’ be enough balls to go around,’ or ‘there’s gonna’ be a lot of ballhogging,’ it was never like that. I think he averaged about 25-28 points a game, plus 12 assists. So it was great to play with him.

As for the college choice, it’s not coming today or tomorrow at the game. I’m going to take this thing all the way ’til May and just enjoy the process. I’ve been talking to Jai [Lucas, another top unsigned senior in town for the game] and we’re both enjoying it. Thanks.

PP - you’ve said something very wise… “what’s best for me”. Now, with that in mind - I ask you to consider something… “what would your life be like IF you couldn’t play basketball?” Whether by an accident of fate, or just that the years have caught up with you - the day will come when you put down the “rock” and move to the next stage of your life. That’s the time when the history, tradition, and life long legacy of one school overshadows all the others. When you put on the Kentucky Blue and White you are adopted into a family like no other. You see them everyday at school in Huntington. You’ve seen them on internet message boards from every corner of the globe (16,000 online at one time). It’s not just a school choice, its a lifetime choice. And when you look at all the great UK stars that have preceded you… they all know the warm embrace that awaits them when they return to their “Old Kentucky Home.” There’s only one name that means basketball - Kentucky

Mark says:
Patrick,
I don’t know if you actually already know where you want to go to college or not. However, you are the one that stands to lose the most by waiting all this time. Why? Look at this scenario.
Let’s say Timbuktu University is one of the schools on your short list. Say TU only has one scholarship left, or they only have one they can give to a guy that plays your position. Recruit X plays the same position as you. Recruit X may be TU’s second choice, but they would still be happy to have him.
Recruit X tells TU that they have two days to decide whether or not to sign him. TU could decide to wait and hope they get you. Or, they could go ahead and sign Recruit X because they would rather have one sure thing than risk getting you and ending up with nothing.
Suddenly TU would no longer be an option for you. It wouldn’t be because you chose against them. It would be because you made no choice at all.
You could end up finding out that you would have really liked to go to TU but it is no longer an option.
So the question is do you want to be the one that narrows your list of schools and gets to chose or do you want your choice to be made for you because you can’t or won’t decide?
While I am an ardent fan of one of the schools on your list I am not crazy enough to think that I can sway your decision as to which school you will end up at. I do however think you should decide before the decision is made for you.

Apr.20 at 8:15 pm

AirForceOne says:
Double-P. Are you concerned that putting off a decision till May could be harmful?? A couple of thoughts for you….One, the schools you are looking at may not wait for you. They run the risk of not being able to sign anyone as the talent pool is eaten up. You may wind up being on the short end of the stick and not get the Florida, Kentucky or Duke that you want. The other concern is how this is going to affect your image with fans and the media. It is very possible that you will be perceived as a prima donna with a self-only attitude….and you have to face the fact that fans and the media can have a HUGE influence on your overall package. It does not matter if you have superb skills, can jump over a billboard and dribble with your feet….if you are not liked, it becomes very difficult to bring your best game out. Career wise, you will be much more marketable if you are perceived as a team player who CAN make a decision.
Good Luck.

Apr.20 at 8:26 pm

NathanJ says:
Agreed, this has gone on far too long and PPat should decide on a school or watch as his potential slot on each of his choice schools’ roster gets eaten away by more decisive talent. If he keeps stringing universities along like this, they will either forget him and go elsewhere for a rosterspot, or he will eventually commit to a school whose fans have already developed an antipathy for him because of this process.
Good Luck, anyway.

I just think he is trying to let us down slowly but i’m the only that seems like he is doing this I guess? Well pat good luck tomorrow at the game, shine for me dawg, I’ll miss you being U.K. wearing that blue and white that would look good.

Dude, man I think it is awesome you are doing this thing and having some interaction with the fans. I’ve been keeping up with ya this whole process and its been crazy. You dominated the USA vs. The World game. I think you dunked on half the players and a great performance in the McDonalds All-American Game. But Ima go ahead and throw my 2 cents in. Duke is the place for you. Coach K will teach you more than anyone can. McRoberts is gone and you and Singler and the other boys could start another Dynasty down there. Its not too awful far from home and you know the cameron crazies are gonna love ya. Hope to see you ballin for Duke on ESPN. Good luck this weekend.

College is an important decision– take your time. You’ll know who wants you most by whether they give the scholarship away to someone else. Yeah, maybe you’re being a bit of a tease, but its your life & we know that you’ll make the best decision for Patrick, not for anyone else. UK fans are just hoping that you feel the love from us. We all wish you the very best, wherever you go. But, it would be fabulous to see you wearing the blue/white UK uniform.

Hey Patrick. Hope you’re enjoying the selection process alot. You’re an amazing player, and it’s wise of you to take your time to find out what school you will excel at the most. I hope when you come down to it, you choose Duke University. No other school combines terrific basketball, a family atmosphere, top notch academics, and a hall of fame coaching staff who will be there for you no matter what. The Blue Devil Nation would absolutely love to have you. But good luck in whatever school you attend, and in a succesful pro career.

Got UK. You can start now. Billy D and the other guys are lying. At Florida you will have to compete with the other 5 star players. They will take away some of your much needed press. At UK you will be the focus 100 percent of the time.
Best of luck.

Main Woardie says:
I like TJ’s line of thinking. Elton Brand (max NBA contract, number one pick). Carlos Boozer (six year, 68 million with the Jazz). Shelden Williams (fifth pick in the NBA draft, ended his NBA rookie season averaging 12.8 PPG and 11.8 RPG over the final eight games when he got some solid minutes). Patrick Patterson (game resembles the above three in so many ways, gets to play with guys such as Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, and Taylor King who have just raved about the opportunity to spend time with him throughout the All-Star circuit). Just sayin’.

PatPattersonFan4Life says:
Pat, there is something very serious you should think about when considering Duke University. Think about all the elite post players who got screwed over going to Duke just in the last decade. McDonald’s All American Chris Burgess, forced to transfer due to Elton Brand getting all the playing time. McDonald’s All American Casey Sanders spent his whole career riding pine behind Carlos Boozer. McDonald’s All American Michael Thompson rode pine and then transfered. McDonald’s All American Shav Randolph was a lottery pick if he had gone pro out of high school; but he was forced to bulk up and play Center and after a couple years he was willing to go undrafted just to get out of Duke alive. McDonald’s All American Eric Boateng rode the bench and then transfered. California Player of the Year Jamaal Boykins rode the bench and then transfered. More elite big men have transfered from Duke in the last decade than have actually turned into good NBA players. Remember that when you read about the elite big men (Greg Monroe, Samardo Samuels, etc..) that Duke is recruiting from the high school class after you. If you go to Duke, you are more likely to end up transfering or riding pine than actually having an elite career. That is not the case at Florida or Kentucky. If you choose Duke, I will hope and pray you are on the short list of big men Coach K hasn’t screwed over.

I am not a Booster, I am a Florida fan. Currently, our program is the second best in the nation behind Kentucky. I know that I can’t recruit Pat to Florida, so I am telling him where the best place to go is… Kentucky. It’s closer to his home, so his folks can see him play and it has a better coach and more fans. I would love to see him come to Florida, but if he is serious about doing what is best for him - he needs to go to Kentucky. I am willing to sacrifice the needs of our school to help the young man do what is right for him. ;)

TD from TN says:
For the love of all man kind…..DO NOT GO TO DOOK!!! You are too good of a ball player to have WOJO teaching you how to post up. K does not have much of a record in regards to low post players as of late. I believe your best option is with FL.

Apr.21 at 9:38 pm

JKwo says:
Caleb, I agree with the UK article about contacting recruits, but whoever is doing the final editing on that giant NCAA rulebook needs to get his ass fired. A booster is, of course, typically described as someone who financially contributes to a program. According to that article, a bylaw allows for anyone “who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution’s executive or athletics administration to be assisting in the recruitment of prospects.” to be considered a booster. So, if that’s the definition of booster, than coaches and their staff fall under the category of boosters. And if boosters can’t contact recruits, then by transitive property, the coaches and staff can’t contact recruits. They should have some lawyers look that over.

Apr.21 at 9:49 pm

Gplayer says:
Patrick, take a good look at dook’s record with big men. They’ve had a few decent guys, but not recently. (Shavlik, McRoberts, Sanders etc.) They have Wojo as their big man coach, LOL! The guys that have actually ended up good (Boozer, Brand) left EARLY!, I would take a hint from that. If I were you, I’d go to UVA first (still in the ACC with awesome facilities, Leitao is a great motivator). Secondly, either Florida (weather, girls etc), Kentucky third, b/c Gillespie will be a great coach and can really recruit).

The opportunity to learn from true greatness is a rare and wonderful thing. Playing for Coach K at Duke is the ultimate dream. Ask 100 people which is the best school between Duke, UK, UF, and even UVa. 100/100 will say Duke. If all you really want is to be “the Man” at a lesser program and never get beyond the first round of the NCAA tourney and then turn pro after 1 year, then go to UF or UK. Some people are afraid to become great. Some people accept the challenge required and seize an opportunity when it presents itself. Which are you?

Coach K is the best developer of big men????? What are you smoking? He’s had more busts than all the other coaches put together. Look at how many McD’s he’s had and name me how many have gotten better under his coaching. Most that turned out decent didn’t stay very long and the ones that did were that good when they got to Duke. He’s a great motivator but not a great teacher. If PP goes to Duke he stands a very good chance of spending some quality time riding the pine because K doesn’t play very many players and he’ll have Singler, Lance Thomas and Henderson all starting before him even if he is the best out of all of them. PP, if you want to set picks all game long for Singler and Scheyer than go to Duke. If you want to develop YOUR game, go somewhere else!

Wes says:
Patrick, Duke has all the great assets for a star player such as yourself that is necessary to become a great person, player, and leader. Duke easily has one of hte greatest academic programs in the nation so that if something unexpected arose then the information you learned at such an established university will help carry you much further past your basketball career. We have the greatest fans in the nation who support their players no matter what. Take a look at Greg Paulus this year, he did terrible early in the season, by having more turnovers than assists, the cameron crazies continued to support him and he has greatly excelled in the end of the season becoming an obvious team leader and our best player. We also have a hall of fame coach that obviously knows what he is doing just by looking up into the rafters at cameron indoor and seeing those 3 national championship banners. No other school has this combination of excellence. Florida has just as good athletics but not as good academics, kentucky is very unstable, and UVA-i dont see any national titles there

Apr.23 at 4:02 pm

Patterson a Blue Devil says:
This man knows is the back of his mind what he wants to do. Kentucky is quickly falling off, they havent been very good for quite a few years and who knows if Gillespie is worth anything. Florida is ballin in everything right now, but lets face it, how long does it take to get from West Virginia to Gainesville, wayyy too long. So the obvious fit is Duke. Like BC said, it isn’t too awful far from home. You are on ESPN ALL THE TIME. Last year Duke had the most players playing in the NBA, so all that about them not producing pro talent is wack. You get to play for coach K, and Pat you know, not too hate to much on Zoubek, but you would be starting and you would be the anchor of this team. Go to Durham and shine bro.

Apr.23 at 4:34 pm

Bystander says:
Duke, Florida, Kentucky.. Duke is in great shape with their guards this year. It seem they need that one last PF, since the depature of McRoberts. Florida still has the two-time winning coach. So does Duke. Talent is a lot different than coaching, and since talent is leaving Florida, it will be rocky to rebuild. Kentucky has a OCD coach. Spends his night watching reel by reel of game coverage. With the right players, he could make a dent in the media. Overall, I think Duke would be the best choice for success and preparation. I, myself, am a Texas fan, so.

Apr.23 at 5:07 pm

DukeDevil91 says:
Patrick,
Duke is need of a true post defensive and offensive presence. Barring Lance Thomas gaining 20 lbs. of muscle and him growing about 1 more inch and his skills drastically impoving, you’d see imediate PT and be part of a great legacy. Elton Brand and Carlose Boozer certainly aren’t bad examples of big men who have come through Duke.

Apr.23 at 5:42 pm

PatPattersonFan4Life says:
Notice how not one single Dook fan will even comment about all the elite big men busts the last decade. Not one single Dook fan will discuss Boykins, Boateng, Thompson, Randolph, Sanders, and Burgess. That is 5 McDonalds All Americans and 1 California player of the year that Dook and Coach K have totally screwed over in the last decade. I’m not even counting McRoberts who saw his draft status drop each season since high school, and went pro this year just to avoid falling completely out of the first round next year. Dook has had 3 elite big men become successful in the last decade (Brand, Boozer, and Shelden Williams.) Meanwhile 6-7 elite big men have been flops. The numbers don’t lie and that is why not a single Dook fan will talk about it. It’s simple math Pat. It’s a 2 to 1 ratio of flops to successes in the last decade for elite big men at Dook. Do you really want to entrust your future to a school and a coach who screw over 66% of the elite big men who go there?

Apr.23 at 8:00 pm

Wes says:
yes but look at the situation each was in, Boykins was playing behind shelden williams who was an all-american so thats pretty hard to take his spot, boateng was an obvious project due to his raw talent but lack of knowledge of the deeper interworkings of basketball, Randolph, he was behind a much much better shelden williams and i personally have no idea y he declared for hte draft because he simply was not an outstanding player in college, sanders, yeah he was playing behind two great players, one of which his jerseys was retired with sanders playing behind boozer and battier who are currently pretty good NBA players, Burgess was playing behind Brand who as PatPattersonFan4 Life said on here is doin pretty darn good in the NBA, now patterson, we lose our only decent big guy, patterson can easily outplay zoubek for the starting spot for hte next 2-4 years, so if patterson does go to duke he is nearly garunteed a starting spot for as long as he is at duke

Apr.23 at 8:16 pm

Jay for Duke says:
Why do fans of other schools try to be negative about Duke in recruiting? Don’t you guys have any positives about your own programs to focus on? Come on, UK and UF have outstanding programs that don’t have to resort ot that stuff. If you want to look at the facts though, former Duke players collectively earn more than any other programs former players in the NBA and world wide for that matter. So while every program has some failures (yes Duke has had its share), I’d say that they have a pretty darn formidable pro contingent.

Apr.23 at 9:52 pm

Jacob Ray says:
I am glad that the Duke fans have spoken and I realy understand Wes and his point. And the last article I read said that if Duke gets Patrick Patterson that they have a shot to go to the elite 8 and the other Programs they will ethier make barley make it or not make it so which is the better choice Duke UK or UF come on Pat please come to Duke we need you

Apr.23 at 10:04 pm

Jacob Ray says:
Yes Duke has had some few screw overs at the big man spot, but which team has been the most consident in the last of years 1 national titles and 5 of the last 7 ACC chapionships

Apr.23 at 10:09 pm

Jacob Ray says:
And I don’t want to make any UK and UF fans mad but Duke is the best over all a great school work and the best fans in collage basketball. And Patrick if you come to Duke we can go realy deep in the tourny and win the Duke-Carliona battle

Apr.23 at 11:06 pm

Sum1 aint thinkin straight says:
Man I don’ care where he goes, but I just read what PatPattersonFan4Life said about Duke, and personally I hate Duke. You are very uneducated man. Atleast they can get some McDonalds All Americans, Kentucky can’t get nothing. He would atleast have some decent players around him at Duke. Florida has had one good signing period in its whole history with brewer horford and noah. Thats where it stops. Nick Calathes will be the biggest bust of any 5-start recruit ever. He is terribly unathletic and is terrible with making tough passes. He has been dominated in all of the All Star games. So Florida hasn’t had a chance to get many All Americans. Duke is a powerhouse, the reason they have busts is cause some of these guys arent good enough to play there. I hate Duke, but Patterson needs to go there. One

duke suck…there best player is josh mcroberts and he isnt that good..we played against him in high school and beat them in the first round in sectionals my freshman year..he will need to expand his game..he cant dunk on everybody that gets in his way like he did in high school and tried to do in college..duke history in players isnt that good..look at leatner..he was one of the best college players but a bum in the nba..you need to think about a school who has a good guard who needs a big man..i think memphis need one since dorsey is graduating…i think??…good luck on yo decision.

Apr.24 at 4:00 pm

hooper#4 says:
On hooper #3’s comments, first off you are porbably full of it about beating McRoberts and second off, are u saying it is Duke’s fault that they made him one of the best college players ever and that he wasn’t a big time guy in the pros. That sounds a little difficult to make someone a failure in the next level up after making them dominant in college. Laettner avered 12.8 points in his career and an all-star appearance so everyone needs to quit hatin on him and Duke. Lets look at Antwawn Jamison, another great from a certain school down the road, 19.8 ppg in his career and only one all star appearance, not too better. So chill out on Duke, they have been dominant for the last 10 years.

Apr.24 at 5:20 pm

Jacob Ray says:
Well first Josh is leaving Duke and 2nd the reason they are going to be so good is because of there rercuiting class and if they get Patrick Patterson they will have the best class in 2007 if we do not get him we still have the 3rd best rercuiting class but we need but that means that will not have anyone to fill josh’s spot and we will not go as far in the tourney
GO DUKE

Apr.25 at 12:08 pm

hooper#3 says:
why would i lie about beating mcroberts..its not like i said i beat him one on one..he’s 6′11 and im 6′2..he would dunk on my ass..lol…his team wasnt that good though..they were ranked in indiana of course but you made it seem like they were ranked in the top 10 in the nation..josh is a good player and all but he is one dementional..thats all i was sayin..and duke always recruit mcdonald all-americans so why havent they won a ring in a min?????????i really dont care wat college you pic pat..just make yo decision that would lead you to a great career..thats wat we all want rite??im sure we all would rather be a hall of fame in the nba than in college..once again, good luck on yo decision though..

Hooper #4 how do you say dominant for the last ten years Id say North carrolina unfortunately has surpassed Duke in the ACC over last 5 years I dont car for North carrolina or duke BTW. And this last season duke looke rediculous. Days of 2 or three dominant schools is over Indiana is gonna be a bit stronger this yeqar there working there way back up. USC out of some freak of nature actually has recruited fairly well over the last couple of years. Florida’s tandem made alot of noise. Anyways star recruits dont win games by them selves they need to work together and thats how you win games not trying to be the star. Laettner should not have been in the game to make the last second shot that beat Kentucky as he obviously intentionally stomped on one of our players with the intent to injure him. Doesnt mean that someone else wouldnt of made the shot but shouldnt of been him.

Jacob Ray says:
What I am saying if he goes to Duke that they will have one of the best rercuiting class in the nation. But if UK gets Pat and Jai they will have one of the best rercuiting classes too. they will be a better team if they get Pat at tourney time than UK but it all depends on what they do. GO DUKE

Apr.25 at 5:04 pm

Go Maryland! says:
I think hooper#4 made some great points. Duke has been dominant for the last 10 years for sure. Basketball experts were starting to say that the Duke UNC rivalry was fading there for a while when Duke was whipping them every game. Go look at the record. And now Duke has one bad year, and everyone is all over them. Everyone needs to lay off. If i’m not mistaken I think UNC didnt’ even make the tournament not too long back, and Kentucky has had a hard time getting in for the last few years too. So props to the Blue Devils even though i hate them. And Caleb, you sound like an idiot talking about Laettner shouldnt have hit that shot. Thats ridiculous. Ask them Kentucky fans how they like him. I live in Kentucky and thats all they talk about. Go Maryland!

Apr.25 at 7:43 pm

Jacob Ray says:
AS you probly know that I hate Maryland but I hope you get Jai so UK does not get them both and you make good since about Duke they have one off year and people dog them about it well and they start to turn into Carliona fans well that sucks and I hope you guys get Jai. GO DUKE

Apr.25 at 11:35 pm

Robert says:
Patrick, are you and Jai going to the same school?
The weather in Florida is beautiful all year round, lots of hot beaches and clubs within a couple of hours of Gainesville. You know, Titletown, USA.
I got a great education at UF and make six figures a year (not in sports). Regardless of your decision, best of luck to you, young man. Keep your head on straight, stay out of trouble, and make your dreams come true!

Apr.25 at 11:58 pm

Robert says:
P.S. Enjoy watching the NBA Draft when 3 Gators go in the top 10. That leaves a lot of playing time at a school that has had a lot of publicity the last two years…

Apr.26 at 1:23 am

hooper#3 says:
the only reason i get on duke is becuz they’re suppose to have the deepest recruit everyyear…they say they only recruit mcdonald all-americans…so why is it so hard for them to win it all..when was the last time duke won the championship?????????anybody remember????they should win it every other 2 years AT LEAST.. thats all im sayin..

Apr.26 at 12:34 pm

Pat Is Dominant says:
aight guys this is gettin kind of annoying looking at all this. But the facts are Duke is a great program, you can’t hate on them. And back to the real deal, yea you would get a lot of playing time at Florida, but they are also going to suck losing their whole team and especially with that new Calethes kid. There will be playing time at Kentucky but they will be struggling once again. Duke will be on its way back up. AND there also playing time there. So go to Duke and start on an already GOOD team. Pat! you’ll be on ESPN every other game probably. Can’t wait to see you playing infront of the crazies. Later

Apr.26 at 5:25 pm

Wes says:
the reason we havent won a championship every other year is that there are other great schools that have great recruiting classes too, we dont get all the recruits we want, and gettin a mcdonalds all-american doesnt garuantee hell be great, but as i recall we have the record being being in the top 25 in the nation for the most consecutive weeks that was ended this year on our “down year” which by the way i really dont consider winning 20 some odd games a down year for any other program, in fact for many schools winning 20 games is a goal

Apr.26 at 6:58 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
Bs for one No one in Kentcuky Likes laitner so BS. He stomped a kentucky player in the ribs taking him out of the game similar to the matcus Vic stomp on a lousville football player but withought cleates and being ont the back of his rib cage.

Apr.26 at 7:03 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
Marcus VIck Stomp Second If kentucky gets the addition of a Jai lucas with Legion signing The will have a tone of depth at the Guard spots next year it would be Ramel Bradly Joe Crawford, Jai Lucas, Jodi Meeks, Alex Legian, Derick Jasper, and Michael Porter.thats five outstanding guards and someothers that will be solid contributers later in there careers. So with a PP and Perry stevenson and Jared carter on the inside we would have good things happening just my thoughts. Later

Apr.26 at 8:31 pm

Go Maryland! says:
I know idiot, thats what I’m saying. Ketucky fans hate Laettner and thats all they talk about. All they do is cry about Duke and Laettner. So props to Laettner and you need to quit even talking on here. Go Maryland!

Apr.26 at 9:20 pm

Go Maryland! says:
I’ve been keeping up with Pat for months and months now, DUDE make a decision. haha. You’re killin us. I think Duke would be the best fit for you man….and just another thing someone needs to stomp on this caleb guy cuz he’s and moron.

Apr.26 at 9:31 pm

Jacob Ray says:
I have been keeping up with you for a Very LONG time and its been crazy. Frist the rumor that you were headed off to UF made me very angery been then I read and that was a rumor. Duke has been the most consented place to go since the 1900s and 2000s. well hope you come to duke. GO DUKE

Apr.26 at 9:46 pm

Jacob Ray says:
And if you were to stay at Duke at least another year you could be playing with Greg Monroe and if you some of you guys don’t know him you will trust me. the number 1 prospect of 2008. And that would be a awsome team if everyone stayed for next year’s team.
GO DUKE

Apr.27 at 2:11 am

Caleb Stratton says:
GO Maryland perhaps you could pull your head out your arse go look at the film of the stomp and tell me he didnt intentionally Injure our boy that year in the tourney that was a foul that should of resulted in him being ejected from the game. Bottom line Laettner was a guy that reguardless of talent was a jerk and unsportsman like.

Apr.27 at 11:16 am

Go Maryland! says:
And one of the best college players ever, end of story. Go cry about it like the rest of Kentucky. Pat go to Duke and tell Jai to come to Maryland!

Apr.27 at 11:17 am

H to the izzo says:
Are you losers serious

Apr.27 at 11:35 am

Jacob Ray says:
Well I am sad to say it but it looks like that Patrick Patterson is going to UF with Jai but I am still hoping he comes to Duke but it looks more and more like UF but I hope not maybe the in home vist will go good on april 30th with coach K to chang his mind but who knows. Just maybe. GO DUKE

Apr.27 at 1:25 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
Anyways to step away from all this other crap give me some thoughts on the text message ban that will go into effect august 1rst

Apr.27 at 4:17 pm

H to the izzo says:
I personally think that its bull if a recruit has made up his mind he needs communication with his coach

Apr.28 at 1:29 am

Caleb Stratton says:
Saddly the principle is A High school player can text message a coach but the couch cant respond via Text. Couch would have to respond Via Email or something

Apr.28 at 12:28 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
Well it is true that like Patricks moms cell provider doesnt offer unlimited text messaging in any plan so she just wrote them a 500 dollar check for the fact that patrick had 4000 more text messages then the plan allowed

Apr.28 at 4:38 pm

Caleb is a whiner says:
Well I’ve never seen anyone be such a little baby. But I go to Carolina and I wanted to remind you that we dominate you every year and for the sake of my ACC brothers at DUKE heres a little clip that make you go back into your closet and cry. Much respect to the Dukies

Apr.30 at 11:00 am

The next Duke great says:
Pat dude, Coach K is coming to visit tonight. Hope you enjoy the visit and you can figure out exactly what you want to do after it. Coach K needs ya man! Come start for us and play on ESPN all the time. Holla!

May.1 at 11:47 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
Great Leattner hit one great shot then Was mediocur every day after that. You notice that Kentucky was An underdog then and Quite honestly. Laettner has played on six NBA teams and still has yet to be a Solid player for any of them. So although that one shot got him into fame there is no other achievement that is worth mentioning. You want a star that BEat Kentucky Look at Dwayne Wade now he has something to bragg about. Laettner Stomps Timberlakes Ribcage hurting him and Gets a slap on the wrist foul. Cause of course Coach K has the refs in his pocket 90% of the time or better.

May.2 at 1:01 am

WHAT!? says:
Dude, Laettner also went to an all-star game. And why are you even talking about Dwayne Wade. He went to Marquette. What a terrible comment. Thats like saying look at Lebron, ok whats your point. Its Dwayne Wade. Tell me a star in the nba from kentucky. Look at Boozer and Deng dominating in the playoffs man, i don’t see no Kentucky guy ballin. And blah blah about coach K, grow up man. You have zero intelligence.

May.2 at 1:10 am

Amazed says:
I’ll have to second this guys comments. That was a very dumb thing to say Caleb. The only Kentucky guys are Chuck Hayes, who gets outplayed by Shane Battier. Teyshawn, who is on a great team. Antoine Walker is terrible and was dominated by Luol Deng. Chris Duhon is there, Grant Hill and JJ Reddick are there. Who else does kentucky have, modammed, you’re a joke man.

May.2 at 3:34 am

Caleb Stratton says:
Hey Whiner guy that insults me i guess that you dont recall Duke breaking Hansboroughs knose with the intentionall punch what a bitch cant even take up for your own players you insult your school.

May.2 at 9:09 pm

Caleb is a whiner says:
Dude you’re ridiculous. I grow up and get over stuff like that. You’re talkin about something that happened over 15 years ago….get over it. Duke has you’re milk. Duke will probably take Patrick Patterson from you and then you’ll be crying about that for the years to come. Pitiful, kentucky is terrible.

May.3 at 11:42 am

Go for #4 says:
Pat, come to Duke, you know you have the best chance to win a national championship there. This year yall can go deep, if you come, and still have a chance, and then next year yall would probably be the favorites. Lets make it happen man!

May.3 at 11:59 am

Ryan Jones says:
I honestly cannot believe you people are still posting on here.

May.6 at 1:08 am

Caleb Stratton says:
Amazing
Who is Tayshaun prince Ya friggin idiot ok bah.

May.6 at 1:12 am

Caleb Stratton says:
whiner
Hansburough got his knose brok 15 years ago?

May.7 at 12:23 pm

hooper#3 says:
why not indiana…. i think d.j. white is entering the draft…and you gon have eric gordon there..or memphis, they can use you and you got derrick rose there too..im tired of hearing about duke this..and duke that..or not only duke but all the big major colleges that are suppose to be great programs but get their ass handed to them by mid major programs..lol..go to duke if you want a great career in college..but go somewhere else that will carry on to a great career in the nba..if duke will do that than go there..i really dont see duke goin to the final four anyway with you or without you(no disrespect)..but no one fears duke anymore like they use too..

May.7 at 11:11 pm

Caleb Stratton says:
I want to say that Indiana is a respectable school and Flarida is respectable also my personal team i support is Kentucky. It appears from the word here that Jai narrowed his list to 3 schools oklahoma state Flarida and Kentucky so it looks like He wont be in the ACC atleast . I am tired of most all of the ACC schools myself.

May.8 at 12:15 am

Caleb is a whiner says:
You are soo dumb dude. I’m talkin about the laettner thing, dude you are such an idiot.

May.8 at 12:28 am

Duke Boi says:
Alright to end all the yappin and bad-mouthin about Duke…I want everyone to go check this link out… http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2862455&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos1 Its from ESPN.
So now everyone can quit talking. Duke is the number one program, where is kentucky?..way bak at 7. So just give it up. It even discusses yalls obsession with Duke having no NBA talent.
If you haven’t heard, Pat is coming to Duke, where he will dominate and as others have stated, will play on ESPN allday long, for ESPN’s number one rated program..DUKE.
Hail the Blue Devils.

May.8 at 12:31 am

Another correction says:
Tell me a mid major kickin Duke’s ass. OOOO VCU, a one time great story…anymore? And I distinctly remember watchin Duke beat Indiana…again. Memphis…always overrated. They don’t play anykind of talent. If Memphis was in the ACC they would be barely over .500, and thats a fact.

May.8 at 12:09 pm

lol...#3 says:
you say memphis is overrated…duke is way overrated..they got out the first round…to VCU..i dont remember when they got out last year but they should’ve went to the final four..or even won the championship..and yea duke beat indiana..you want a cookie or sumtin..lol..VCU beat duke..im just tired of everyone talking about how good duke is when there are like 50 teams better then them..what a horrible performance this year..i hope pat goes there and i want to see if ya make it to the final four..witch ya wont..and duke should always be number 1 or 2 in the ACC..wat were they this year???????????????????..im pretty sure memphis will beat duke last year and this upcoming year..but i done talkin on here..

May.8 at 4:21 pm

wow says:
sorry Duke can’t continuously be the best #3, sorry we have fell short to your expectations, we have been a number 1 seed 8 out of the last 10 years. And every team has once got knocked out by a nobody. Duke did beat Georgetown this year if I’m not mistaken.

May.9 at 9:40 am

Thatguy says:
Come on guys… anyone with a brain could see that duke got out 1st round last year because of the worst matchup possible for them… besides, duke has been dominant the last decade.. if you dont agree with me, Im pretty sure the whole ESPN network does so you can look at that

May.9 at 12:45 pm

#3 says:
all of that is true..and they have been dominant..but i’d rather be on the florida team whos known for being dominant for those two years and won two rings than a team whos only been dominant for ten and have nothing to show for it….once again..i dont hate duke as a program..i hate it when everyone commit to going there..like they need duke needs that many players or sumtin..duke doesnt need that many all-americans on there team..i mean yea its a great program but damn…theres about a hundred other colleges they can go to that is well known also..and if you really good you can make any team you go to well known..i will take that back when i said duke suck on my first comment cuz they dont..its just we expect too much from them since they always have the best recruit..and your rite they did have a good record..but honestly…dont all ya think that duke should have won at least 4 championship in the last decade by now???????????????…AT LEAST 4..

[…] I don’t mean all Kentucky fans, or even most of you, just the short-bus riders who posted on the Patrick Patterson diary pages we ran to preview the Jordan All-American Classic a few weeks back.
