Ron Artest arrested

Ugly.

By Sam Rubenstein

It’s hard out here for a fan of Ron Artest. The charge is domestic violence. This is not good. We’ll see what the deal is when more information becomes available, but it’s becoming harder and harder to defend him. Very upsetting and disappointing.

What a twat. Maybe some goldigger is sucking him dry, but this is Ron Artest. (Maybe that was her rationale, thinking the judge would take one look at his name and not even bother listening to the denfense.) What a complete and utter twat.

Dallas J. comment of the day. I wasn’t expecting to crack up laughing reading the comments to this post. And as mark jackson would say, “c’mon ron artest, you’re better than that: you can’t hit (or whatever) a woman, you don’t need this sh*t. Hopefully, when all the facts come out, this incident won’t be as ugly as it seems

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
I remember someone posing the following question not long ago on this same forum: How long before Ron Ron finally cracks up what with the current situation in Sacto and all? I guess now we know the answer, sadly. It is also probably safe to say that the Ron Artest Rehabilitation Project is officially on its last legs.

i couldn’t read the link (to lazy to go through bugmenot) but i’ve always liked ron ron. I just hope he didn’t hit a woman or something cause that will change my perception of him in a big way.

The details are absolutely amazing. Apparently she threw a pot that shattered the windshield of his Hummer. GOOD TIMES.

Mar.6 at 12:30 am

Bill Biehl says:
I just read the report and there is nothing saying that he hit her. He shoved her, and stood in the way of her getting to the phone (she was going to call 911). I’m not taking Ron’s side, but the bitch did throw a pot at his hummer, breaking the windshield (hummer vs. pots and pans. Winner pots and pans). You guys are always so quick to judge him without knowing the whole story. True, i dont know the whole story, but i know SHE had something to do with all of this as well. The real loser is the three year old baby that was witness to all of this.

Mar.6 at 12:42 am

Russ Bengtson says:
Well, I think if Ron hadn’t been involved in so much other stuff in the past, more people would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Mar.6 at 1:00 am

Mike says:
The real loser in all of this has to be Artest’s agent. No team is going to offer Ron Ron a lucrative long-term contract now. 10% of the veterans minimum is how much?

Phil B. says:
I know a little bit about this sort of case, being a California lawyer. If it’s true that his wife had “injuries” and these were visible, then Artest will likely be charged under Penal Code 273.5. This crime, injury to a spouse, is a “wobbler,” meaning the charge can be either a felony or a misdemeanor. If the DA charges Artest with a felony, then there will be pressure on Artest to plead guilty to a misdemeanor. But if the complaining witness can’t decide whether she wants to testify, then the DA will try to get Artest to agree to a misdemeanor conditional plea (which means he pleads guilty, but does not get sentenced, and if he stays out of trouble for six or twleve months, and - perhaps - takes an Anger Management class, he will be allowed to withdraw his guilty plea and the case will get dismissed). If Artest is charged with a misdemeanor, then the charges will likely get dismissed because Artest and his wife will cool off and realize that a conviction will ultimately mean less money for both of them. The bottom line is that unless Artest’s wife testifies against him, the DA will not have a good case, regardless of what actually happened.

He’s done. As a serious ball player with a serious playing future, you may as well stick a fork in him. He’s done. Yes, its a shame, but personally I’m sick and tired of ball players in the spotlight acting irresponsibly and SEEMINGLY not having any accountability for their shit. Ron Artest isn’t gangsta. He’s a millionaire, who amongst other millionaires has alot more ’street’ in him than many in his peer group. That doesn’t make him gangsta. I’m not gangsta and i’m no thug, but I know both well, and they don’t know Ron Artest. Gangsta is nothing to be proud of. Promote modern day ‘thugs’ from the safety of the suburbs at your peril, because when this shit spread out to your area, you’ll be sorry. Many neighborhoods are living in fear right now to the point where you can’t even let your kids run out and play anymore, or even go to the store without some threat of drama. And I don’t want to hear shit about he’s just ‘keepin it real’ - fk that, keep it right. I’m no Whitlock up in this piece (that brothas got issues) but at the same time, all this fake-ass posturing when you know better has gotten old quicker than Britney Spears career.

Mar.6 at 8:23 am

Harlem_World says:
The point I was trying to make (I think) was that whether they like it or not, part of the job in being a NBA star is also being a role model. That shit barkley said years ago about not being a role model and that parents should be role models is all good for a family that has balanced parents - but for a kid coming up in a home where there is no male role model and moms is either too stretched to be a parent and keep a roof over your head, or worse still, caught up in drama herself? These guys ARE role models. You see them everywhere you look and aspire to be like them. You can’t shirk that responsibility. While I’m not saying it is Ron’s responsibility to fix all of our problems, it IS his responsiblity to send a positive message out to the many millions of kids who look up to him.

Mar.6 at 9:09 am

Ryan Jones says:
I don’t know about you guys, but I am not a role model. However, deestarbuckz is MY role model, because an Al Green reference is always welcome.

Sam Rubenstein says:
I personally feel that everything Ron Artest does is a sad cry for help. I hope he gets that help before he seriously hurts himself or an innocent person. It’s almost as if he’s going out of his way to follow in Mike Tyson’s footsteps.

» Ron Artest: Does That Make Me Crazy? - SLAM ONLINE says:
[…] The reason Ron Artest is in the news again today is because, rather predictably, he’s in trouble. Word broke yesterday that Ron Ron had been arrested and charged with domestic violence. Today more details are being reported, and some of it is pretty incredible stuff. Putting this together as best I can… • At some point on Monday morning, Ron Artest got into an argument with a woman. The woman is believed to be his wife, but in domestic violence cases the police do not release the name of the person making the allegations. […]

Thanks Ryan…
I really hope that this is what it takes for Artest to wake up. How many passes does he get? Maybe whatever it is that sparks in him isn’t going anywhere.

Tim says:
whats funny is everyone saying hes done now. me and my buddies have this theory that players improve when they beat their wives or get in shit for drugs are are alcoholics, i mean jason kidd beat his wife, and some of the best goalies in hockey have either beat their wives or have been major drug users, look at the cowboys dynasty and the old raiders, how about babe ruth. just because hes a fuck up doesnt mean hes done hes a world class athlete and he will come back. i have faith in ron ron, he might be crazy but hes crazy good as well. so im sticking by artest, im saying he snaps and carries the kings.

Mar.6 at 3:40 pm

Harlem_World says:
Sam, you know what, you’re probably right. He is getting to that Mike Tyson level of ‘in need of help’ - but most people can’t/won’t see it. For the record, this incident hasn’t shocked me, but from a basketball perspective, do you really think you can roll with Artest (as an owner/coach)? If I were his coach, I’d probably go down as a new school black Bobby Knight for choking or slapping him.

Harlem_World says:
Do I need to add, it might be one of those ‘Melo’ type slaps though? (stick and MOVE…then move some more)

CASHVILLE says:
Being his girl she should know that this dude will fly off the handle and Ike Turner her ass if she gets out of line. I don’t condone his behavior because I believe the only time you should hit a woman is if its a life or death situation, knife to the throat or some gunpoint type of sh*t. Coming from a guy with baby momma drama, I’m like Chris Rock, “I wouldn’t hit a woman but I’ll shake the sh*t out of her ass.” Just kidding! It’s like some crazy bitches are begging for you to beat their ass but you can’t let your emotions get the best of you. Woosa, Woosa. I would say that as long as he stays the player he is, he should have no problem getting second chances but you still have to worry about that community and role model thing. Where I’m from we got this guy named “Pacman” who is turning the city upside down and they’re showing no signs of releasing him, so someone may still give Ron Ron another chance.

Mar.6 at 5:19 pm

Cameron Wood says:
Cashville what joint you bust out of?

Mar.6 at 5:26 pm

Cameron Wood says:
how many “timeouts” will the league and the community give ron artest? He wouldnt be the first athlete to assault a woman but how many athletes are going to do the deed and get away with it because of their profession?

Mar.6 at 7:31 pm

CASHVILLE says:
I don’t mean to sound like the chariman for “Beat A Bitches Ass Inc.” but stuff like this happens to us regular folk everyday. For example, your sitting on the couch and your phone rings. She picks up your phone and sees its one of your side hoes and all hell breaks loose. Once the police arrive, the house is a mess, property is broken and someone is claiming they got hit. A lot of he say she say and somebody (more than likely the guy) is spending the night in county. The guy in this case just happens to be ole Ron Ron. No one knows what went on inside that house that night so don’t be so quick to judge. As big as he is, he could have been playing patty cake with her and slung her across the room.

Mar.6 at 7:32 pm

Chris says:
Cameron, i don’t think anyone’s saying Ron should get out of any punishment he deserves because he’s an athlete. But i think someone will give him another chance to play in the nba and i don’t think that’s unfair. I could be mistaken, but i don’t think the average guy would lose his job for getting arrested for domestic abuse, especially if he was in a field that required a specialized skill and was still performing.

Mar.6 at 7:41 pm

Valarie says:
Note to Bill Biehl: if you’re an average size female (say, 5′4″ and 125lbs), and a 260lb man shoves you, it can be a very scary thing. But you’re probably right about waiting until the whole story comes out before racing to judgment.

Mar.6 at 10:50 pm

Danny W. UK says:
If a 3 yr old girl threw a pot a my car windscreen. I’m not saying I’d slap the little bitch, but I’d be mighty pissed. If my wife threw a pot at it, I’d be throwing her after it. The ironic thing is, she’d then have to clean it up and use the pot to cook me some food. ;-)

Mar.7 at 12:00 am

Bill Biehl says:
I understand that Valerie, but my thought was how much of what Ron did was provoked? If she busted out his window with a pot, she deserves to goto jail too. Throwing a pot at a car is in no way self defense. I am not a fan of Ron Artest, he’s a good basketball player but i question him as a man. A real man can control his emotions and vent his frustrations in other ways.

Mar.7 at 12:53 am

Cameron Wood says:
if the woman smashed the car window then it will be in the police report and she will slapped with destruction of property. hitting a woman is never right. i love how movies and all that hoopla plays up the ideals of “hoes” and “smacking bitches”…well guess what, you do it and get caught, youre likely to be in a court room. and when you are saying that, shit happens…doesnt cut it. Cashville…are you ron ron’s attorney?

Mar.7 at 7:04 am

Jefferson says:
Ron Artest is married to his high school sweetheart. They are both young, so they fight. Hopefully, especially for the sake of their 3 children, they’ll learn and in time get it figured out. BTW, Ron’s dog Socks was removed NOT because he had no food, but because he was afraid of the Bulldog who was dominating the food. And regarding the brawl 2 and 1/2 years ago — the fan who tossed a full cup of beer and ice into his face started the brawl, not Artest. Artest was assaulted and honestly, I probably would have gone after the guy too. NOTE: When football players get into trouble, FANS look the other way. Baseball & basketball players are demonized. DOUBLE STANDARDS!

Redrum says:
ok.. knowing how much of a pin head artest is, I am betting my ipod that his woman is not the brightest tool in the shed either.. yes, she might have been a whiny little b…c and provoked him, BUT under no circumstance you hit a woman (unless of course she is aiming to physicaly harm you…)

Why don’t all you CRITICS OF ARTEST go find a new blog on O.J. — or a new blog regarding the many pro athletes that have been accused of rape and other horrible crimes. Ron & his wife have some things to work out and deserve some privacy. Let the courts decide his outcome. Besides, who made you his judge and jury? You weren’t there, so you don’t know what happened and more importantly — YOU DON’T PERSONALLY KNOW ARTEST — so quit acting like ya do!
