MICHAEL JORDAN is still alive

But Bernie Bickerstaff’s job security is not

By Sam Rubenstein

In a move that people probably won’t care much about in any way, MICHAEL JORDAN, who is a part-owner of the team, has announced that Bernie Bickerstaff will not be the head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats next season. With Jordan calling the shots, Bickerstaff knew he would no longer have a shot at moving on from coach to front office shot caller, much like what Larry Bird did in Indiana. Sort of.

What this means is that MJ is talking to the media about his basketball job again, something he has not done since June. And oh yeah, Bernie is invited to stay on board with the mystery consortium that owns the Bobcats. Bob Johnson? Nelly? MJ? Who can keep track anymore.

Bernie Bickerstaff was not doing the greatest job of coaching a team with pretty low expectations. Gerald Wallace is having a good year and the Cats claim to be interested in making him one of the big pieces of their future to go along with Okafor, Morrison, Felton… wait a second. This team has a lot of talent and they are in the East. Good bye Bernie!

Let the coaching search begin. Doug Collins is available to team up with MJ once again.

First! And Jordan is the MAN!

If MJ can lure some veteran leader/scorer to mix with the young ‘Cats, they might be able to make some noise! They will make a run at Vince and that could be a step in the right direction. Carolina connections everywhere!

Sparker says:
vince would be poison to a young team like that. questionable worth ethic, no visible desire to do anything but ride on his rep, content to put up numbers at the team’s expense. the guy couldn’t even get it up for a contract year. ugh.

MJ comes back for one more run, becoming the first player-coach since the 1980s! In related news, hell has frozen over, the leafs have won the cup and Isiah Thomas got a contract extension as a coach…

Mike did a bang-up job hiring coaches for the Wizards—I can’t wait to see how he fouls up the Bobcats.

I agree with sparker, Vince would be a bad influence on the Bobcats. Maybe Scottie? That might work.

why isn’t charles oakley a bobcat?

Cheryl says:
Is Paul Silas or John Thompson, Sr. available? Both have done well with youngsters and big men alike. Neither may be the coach to take the team to the finals, but to the next level from expansion, I would think so.

Love Mike, but what’s up with him pulling his pants up past his belly button? (see pic above) He’s always done that, and its getting even more grotesque the older he gets.

Tom Izzo!

Can’t we just contract (retract?) the bobcat franchise? does anybody care about it? anybody? Shut down the Bobcats & the Grizz to make it even, and throw all the players under contract from those two teams into a ‘retraction’ draft. you’re telling me that wouldn’t make the league better?

Rodney says:
I can see it now: Hello Doug Collins! Then Jordan does a couple of layups and makes a dunk, and thinks he can run with the young guys. Gets a deep thigh bruise in a scrimmage from a Karl Marx book in Adam Morrison’s waistband. Then he puts himself in the starting lineup and trades Gerald Wallace. Argues with Collins during a timeout in the BETCats/Sonics game over the Jordans Ray Allen wears that night, fires Collins and Jordan becomes player/coach.

Mike says:
The Bobcats need to first off sign VC to a deal, then trade for Rasheed, Stack, and Jamison. Keep Jeff Mcinnis around as well as the other UNC youngins and look at that team right there, its got dynasty written all over it!!!

Mar.13 at 5:04 pm

Mike says:
Oh and Bring in Dean Smith as head Coach! If that dont get VC motivated then nothing will..

[…] • Not much surprise that Michael Jordan announced Bernie Bickerstaff won’t be returning as coach for the BETcats. Bernie’s assembled a nice team down there, but they don’t seem to play very well for Bernie. […]

KWAME BROWN????? ANYONE?? KWAME???

KMG says:
When you have a young team like the BETcats, you need to have at least two hard-nosed veterans in the locker room and on the court…address that (and work on the defense..oh, and get rid of Brevin Knight…sorry Brevin) and watch this team consistently make the playoffs for the next ten years.

I heard Scottie Pippen needs $$….Jus sayin

Love Rodneys post. Awesome. Collins would be crazy to take a job with MJ again. He has an easy life working for TNT and working with Jordan he’d be back on sleep deprivation pills and anti-depressants, plus he’s probably lost the gimp mask required for him to be Jordans bitch. I don’t know who he’ll hire. Hey, what about Charles Barkley, that would be funny as hell. I hear the ‘mound was looking for a bball operations job. Would be great to see Charles physically beating young rookies on the sideline for missing a layup. Or for calling him fat. The two of them would blatantly, bet, and lose the franchise on a game of craps that was goin’ real bad on a drunken weekend in vice city. Ha ha.

Rome says:
I wanna see Jordan coach a team myself. I just think it would be a good character study, to see how young men react to playing for him. Also would having him sitting on the bench help them get more free agents, these guys cant tell MJ no to sign with their team.

Ron says:
I like Cheryl’s idea of Paul Silas. He’s coached in Charlotte before, and I think he was given a raw deal in Cleveland. He could be a good fit for the BETcats.
