Dwyane Wade is on the comeback trail

Slow down, Eastern Conference “contenders.”

By Sam Rubenstein

What was once a wheelchair inducing injury, might not even be a season ender. Dwyane Wade claims that he plans to come back this season. He must be motivated by the suddenly mobile and active Shaquille O’Neal, as well as the emergence of Jason Kapono, not to mention the return of Riley. The champs aren’t dead yet. I haven’t seen a player spring back to life this quickly since Steve Francis found out Jamal Crawford was done for the year.

I’ve been holding off on using this photo, but how funny is that trivia question? I assume the answer is 21, but I love that they had the audacity to make 32 an option.

Miami is hanging in there, and the better teams in the East still aren’t all that impressive.

Dwyane, come back soon. My whistle is getting rusty.

This will be very interesting

I really hope that DWade isn’t putting his career in jeopardy by coming back so soon. Riles and Shaq must be giddy, but maybe it is time for Wade to put himself above the team… In a team first oriented sport it is situations like this that should make the individual pause and put himself first.

Hold on “callin’ this a comeback”. He claims that the docs told him his labrum is already torn so he “can’t damage it further”. But, even he says he may not be able to return, and he’ll know more in 3 weeks or so. So, let’s see what rehab brings. Torn labrums are no joke. He may not be able to even hit the 21 free throws, much less attack the rim. Patience, people…

DBlizzy! says:
Yeah he should chill out, I know Shaqs window is closing, but he should think about the rest of his career. But this just seems like his charecter, he plays so hard when he’s out there, it must be killing him to sit out. Plus he doesn’t want the refs to forget about him.

The injured arm is not his SHOOTING arm! Don’t think he won’t be wrapped and padded to the hilt when he does come back and be a little less reluctant to try and draw UNNECCASARY contact. If he drops of 5-6 points a game from lack of free throw attempts, and Shaq continues to average 20-22 points per game the Heat are straight for the playoffs and as they showed against the Pistons on Friday, they are still the best team in the East! (Detroit really is going to regret not having the Fro once the playoffs start!) Shaq missed half of the season, Riley missed the middle of the season and D-Wade is missing the end and they are still looking at a possible 2 seed once they catch the Wiz. Not bad for a team that’s been counted out the entire season.

Mike says:
Oh shit, he’s just doing this to make himself look good and he better be careful cause it just might bite him in the ass. He’s just hoping to come back and get to the finals so that everyone will be talking about how tough he is. Tough?!? Go cry some more ya big baby!

mdshuai says:
shooting arm or not, tearing up either shoulder will mess up your shot. I got impingement in my left shoulder and I couldn’t raise my higher than halfway from my waist; that affected my shot. I still played, but it hurt like crap and I played like crap.

LaBrum James.

Co Co says:
He’s obviously been jaded by Shaq’s last couple of games. He should sit out the rest of this season. It ain’t that serious!

Does this mean Lamar has to strap it up now too?

Having this post run with a DWade T-Mobile ad smack in the middle of it is… awesome. It’s like Dwyane is looking at me while I read Sam’s post about him, simultaneously emailing me to tell me not to doubt him, and then smiling at his own handsome reflection in the screen of his very own SK3. It’s like he’s perfect. Superhuman, even.
F*ck you, Dwyane Wade.

I think he should sit cuz Shaq and Co were coasting letting him do everything. Why risk yourself for teammates that dont give their all when he does. ‘Nuff said.

Noyd says:
I still can’t believe he needed a wheelchair to be taken off the court….For a shoulder injury! What would have happened if he injured himself like Livingston. The Air Force would have scrambled an F-16 pronto to fly to Houston and pick him up right in the middle of the court. I respect his game, but that was a little over the top. No wonder his transition to NBA analyst on TNT during the All Star Weekend was so seamless, he knows drama.

Mar.5 at 4:00 pm

Mike says:
Wade should call up Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn and Allan Houston to see how rushing back from injury worked out for them.

Hey Mike find your own dam name, I called this one first!

Mar.5 at 4:34 pm

Tommy Patron says:
I am now officially terrified of DWade coming back for the playoffs. If he got protected with that many calls before, what is going to happen now that he’ll be getting the “star heroically playing with a severe injury to try to help his team” calls? I hope every team he plays runs screen-roll every time down the court with his man. Let’s see him fight through 40 screens a game.

Mar.5 at 4:36 pm

Ryan Jones says:
Merci, Marcel.

Mar.5 at 5:03 pm

Noyd says:
Agreed, Ryan’s comment was disturbingly funny, because it seems completely reasonable. In the words of Banya, “It’s gold Jerry, GOLD!”

Dwade for prez

Sherri says:
lol @ Ryan & Tommy, since last season wade has done nothing but create sympathy for himself from the media, the analysts and the writers, during the finals last year was the sudden flu and tummy ache BS, now tht something real has actually happened he wants to come back and create a little more sympathy for himself and his already symPATHETIC team, gimme a f*ckin break MR.WADE, i was hoping he would choose surgery so no more do i have to watch heat games on my league pass where he gets more calls then a 800 collect number, and get more whistles then Juelz Santana, if you know what i mean. + SAM.R WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN GOOD?????

Mar.5 at 5:50 pm

Sherri says:
Dwade for prez for the FREE THROW SHOOTING CLUB!!!!

Mar.5 at 6:19 pm

Troy Dallas says:
DWade needs to CHILL. Sorry to break this to him but even if he does comeback, Miami won’t even make it to the NBA finals so why even risk it? Just sit back let your shoulder heal, and comeback next year when you’re at 100%

Mar.5 at 6:33 pm

Boyd says:
Yeah, I don’t know what he hopes to achieve. Then again, Jordan had a broken foot all year in ‘86, the Bulls weren’t gonna win shit, and against all advice he came back for the palyoffs. The Bulls got served by the Celts, but he did have that 63 point game that is still in the record books. I’m not saying at all that that was D-Wades thought process, I’m just saying great players can’t sit when they think they might be able to contribute. Lets just enjoy the next three weeks where Shaq actually has to earn his money and drag his fat ass up and down a basketball court at a competitive pace.

Mar.5 at 6:34 pm

Clay says:
Ryan, aren’t you supposed to be a fan of the NBA and the players that are in it? That’s what I thought… how ’bout you shut the fuck up and enjoy the fact that the east might be competitive if wade suits up again.

Mar.5 at 7:04 pm

Tee says:
Once again,it is still not definite that he will make a comeback. He’s willing to give it a shot. I hope he does comeback. He is what the NBA needs!

Mar.5 at 7:25 pm

Paniscus says:
Man, I hate watching Wade shoot free throws as much as the next guy, but he should take a book out of the Spurs-Duncan playbook and sit the rest of the season out. And my vote for best comment has to go to Mr. Joey Crawford.

Mar.5 at 8:12 pm

David says:
Isn’t it kind of typical for Wade to seem really hurt and then suddenly come back and play well anyway? I’m sure that story kept occuring during the finals last year and each injury only seemed to slow him for one or two plays. Maybe this is just the same thing on a more serious/bigger scale.

Mar.5 at 8:12 pm

Reggie Evans says:
He’d better wear football pads if/when he comes back, bc his opponents will be aiming for his shoulder everytime they make contact.

Mar.5 at 8:41 pm

Schmitty says:
I don’t think he should come back but if and when he does I hope he doesn’t rush into it

You just got me all fired up again about the playoffs last year, and the pathetic, horrible, one-sided officiating towards D-Wade. You shouldn’t have posted that free-throw trivia thing.

TAKE YOUR TIME DWADE!!!!! im sorry but the heat arent goin anywhere even with shaq playin the best ball in a while…he needs to fully heal and come back next year…the heat will be a force to deal with next year…
