The D.A.Y. of 41 boards by Tyson Chandler and David West
While CWebb is taking Detroit to the top (of the East)
Late last night… bathroom rug slipped… my face… the toilet… down goes Fraizer… blood… Felt like a Dikembe elbow… if only I had listened and put the toilet seat down, I would have hit a softer surface than porcelain… ouch.
NEW ORLEANS 109 MILWAUKEE 101 2OT
David West also was hurt last night, sitting out the last 9 minutes of the third quarter with numbness in his right hand. But the numbers don’t tell that story. The Hornets shot 37% from the field and 5 of 20 from three. Chris Paul was way off going 3 for 17. Howeva, their domination on the boards, especially the offensive glass was thorough. They had 31 offensive rebounds, getting 18 of them from the Tyson Chandler and David West combo. Tyson had 22 boards and David had 19, while as a team the Hornets pulled down 71 to the Bucks 49. This was the second straight OT win for the Hornets and they are now 4-0 on the season in overtime games. Ruben Patterson had another huge night with 28 and 16 while Mo Williams poured in 30 in 50 minutes.
DETROIT 93 LA LAKERS 78
Is Chris Webber the difference maker? The Pistons seem to be having more fun and CWebb looks revitalized, passing the ball like he did in Sactown as Detroit almost seems to have an identity now. They even played some defense, but a lot of that was sloppy play by the Lakers. Kobe had one of those off nights, especially against the triple team, and the Lakers were never in the game. They hate going to Detroit. The Pistons have now won five in a row and taken a 2 game lead over the Wizards for the one seed.
SACRAMENTO 86 CHICAGO 77
The Kings are getting back to their winning ways as well. But first, the moment of the game: Tyrus Thomas on a breakaway for the dunk, where he could have thrown down the likes of what you see in a dunk contest. He turned his ankle and missed it. Thank you Mrs. Karma! The game itself was not a masterpiece. 33% shooting for the Bulls, who controlled the glass and still lost. Kevin Martin led the Kings with 29.
Once again, R.I.P. Anna Nicole Smith. If you’re in your late 20’s like me, you remember her from her Guess Jeans days. She is a legend.

Kobe having an off-night against the Pistons is terrible for Toronto. Now he’s going to bounce back and slay the Raptors like an asteroid slamming into the Earth 65 million years ago.

Sam Rubenstein says:
you are correct about the rug. And Mutoni, maybe 30 years from now they’ll vote that incident as the greatest moment in the history of my bathroom.
BREAKING NEWS: apparently I knocked a candle off the toilet too, and there is broken glass on the floor. Did I not mention that I went to my friend’s art opening which had an open bar last night?
Feb.9 at 10:54 am
nic says:
seriously, lose the rug and the candle. take a stand for personal, post-open-bar-art-party safety sam! (or, you know, just capitulate and put the seat down. whichever, really.) oh, and my fantasy team is currently named ‘john paxson is a god’ but if nothing happens in the next week im going back to last years ‘hodges daishikis.’ so there.

One more UPDATE: Just checked my phone and Lang sent me a text message last night that read “I think Ty Thomas just broke his ankle” which is interesting because
A) That might have been the noise that woke me up and sent me to the danger zone
B) I mentioned the karmic payback to a man who said he would only do the dunk contest for money and now probably won’t be in it because of an injury he obtained during a game when he messed up a free of charge dunk. Then it was I who felt the karmic payback of not putting the toilet seat down, which could have been triggered by Thomas’s injury and the resulting text message.
Fascinating.

the best part of Tyrus’ miserry is he still gotta pay the fine. So if his ankle is broke, he wont even get a chance to makeup the amount of the fine.
Who’s going to be his replacement?
Feb.9 at 12:00 pm
Cub Buenning says:
Chris Anderson seems to be the likely replacement………
Sam, your toilet yarn, reminds me a tad of that Curb episode with the seat up, and Larry peeing at night while sitting down.

Well Sam at least you didn’t suffer concussion. One day at work I had to sneeze, I turned my head down to avoid sneezing on the monitor, and as I let the sneeze out my head slammed into the desk. I was knocked out cold. One of my co-workers said she heard the bang and came to my aid; She found me slumped in my chair. My head still hurts when I touch the spot that hit the desk.

I got a bad feeling the bulls are going to package Deng, Duhon and change - which would be a bigtime mistake. Contrary to the mainstream, Deng should be untradeable at the Bulls. He’s their only legit 3 man. Nocioni is effective but he is so unconventional, I don’t see his game developing much further than it is now, plus he’s near 30 already. Deng is just 21 and developing every year. I think he’s an All-Star for a few good years and can hold down that spot for the Bulls on both ends of the floor.

after the intro, i thought the games were inconsequential. i just strolled straight down the comment field to find if sam’s alright. apparently not, he use the word “howeva” in the bucks/bugs recap. my gf’s suggesting moving in. this episode by Sam is maybe a warning sign for me.
oh and ain’t karma a… uhh… lady? (i don’t wanna say bitch for fear of repurcussion)

How hysterical was it when Chuck lit into Ty Thomas: “I’m just glad the young fellas alive, cuz if you don’t catch a shot of the bench, you wouldn’t know he was alive or in the League”…As Kelso or Fez from That 70’s show would say, “buuuurrrrn!!” As far as the ankle thing, hey what can you say. Life’s a bitch. If you don’t sweat talk her every now an then, and act like she matters, she WILL fuck ya shit up…Lesson learnt young bull…At least he didn’t get his wardrobe ripped apart and set on fire…or his car keyed…like…uh…my…homeboy…yeah…thats it…

LOL! The day I got my key back was the day I got my balls back…but that’s just me, dealin wit crazy ass jersey girls…-shrugs-

Here’s video of the Tyrus Thomas injury: http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2007/02/do-not-anger-basketball-gods.html
I wonder if he turned his ankle cause he was feeling the pressure to come up with something creative to win the fans over. The basketball Gods strike again.
My whole “adventure” was worth it cause last night was fun and the pain went away pretty quickly. It defintely had Curb elements to it.
I had passed out before I could watch any more Lost.

Question of the D.A.Y.?
How do you feel about the boi Fiddy’s “Funeral Music” video? You’re the biggest basketball writing, website blogging, Dipset fan I know of. You didn’t speak on Cam calling out Curtis on the radio… now the video is out there. What’s the deal?

The video is hilarious until you realize he’s hurt. That first shot behind the backboard is surreal.

KMG says:
Unfortunately, the only drama in the Bulls/Kings game was the Tyrus Thomas injury. This was unquestionably an ugly game to watch.
Feb.9 at 4:06 pm
Sam Rubenstein says:
I can’t believe it’s taken this long for Cam and 50 to bump heads. I think 50 is crossing into the DMX zone of old rapper craziness. At the end he says his beef is with Cam, and not anyone else from dipset, and Cam is definitely at the stage of his career where he doesn’t care about his music.
I hope Hell Rell goes back at him.
Feb.9 at 4:07 pm
deestarbuckz says:
Fiddy is trying to undermine Cam’s status in the ‘Set.

That video of Tyrus Thomas is classic. The last thing I’m going to do is feel bad for him. F-ck that kid. I play hoops nearly every day without getting paid for it, and occassionally actually have to pay to play, and I twist my ankle all the time. AInt nobody crying for me. What a spoiled little sh-t.

Drolfe, CP3 was 0 for 10 before hitting the tying layup at end of regulation. and also, why do you think chandler and west combined for 18 offensive boards?

watch out for Detroit, they are coming and they dont need CWebb for crunch time cuz they got Billups anf Rip, so CWebb and Rasheed wont feel the pressure (they cant handle, remember the Lakers series for Portland and Sac?)and will play a lot better.
