Last Week in Las Ligas
From Spain to England, it’s more beautiful than Italy…duh
Deportivo 1 - 0 Mallorca
Zaragoza 2 Espanyol 1
I watched this one live. It was a pretty good match, save Raul Albiol nearly accidentally killing Santi Canizares. Can’t hate on the rojiblanca for not winning this one. They had a few nice spurts, but were no match for a Valencia side that is in form at home. Though when Mista scored, I did wonder if I was the only one that thought Sean Penn had scored on Rod Stewart.
Racing 1 0 Getafe 0
Recreativo 2 Villarreal 1
Sevilla 0 Real Sociedad 0
Just five points from their last five games now. Get a grip ! At least Jose Marie Del Nido’s has shut his trap about the club being the best in the world for a couple of weeks. Saturdays night’s date at Real Betis has now become a must win if Sevilla are going to both keep up with Barcelona and stop Valencia overhauling them.
Celta 1 Nastic 1
It was about time. About time for that classic gesture of Spanish disgust, the pañolada or mass hanky wave - the greatest mass hanky wave in Madrid since they lost 5-1 to Zaragoza back in 1999.
OLIVER:
Fairly straightforward week in the Premiership as Man U and Chelsea both pick up maximum points, while Liverpool and Arsenal screw up all the good work they have done in the previous few weeks by drawing at mid table clubs
Results
Wigan 1-0 Portsmouth
Liverpool takeover- US billionaires George Gillet Jnr and Tom Hicks, who between them own hockey teams the Montreal Canadiens and the Dallas Stars, purchased Liverpool this week. The move has been greeted with surprising warmth by scouse fans due to the owners free spending past and promise to make Liverpool one of the most free spending clubs in Europe (Hicks was in charge of the Texas Rangers when they signed A-Rod to his historic $252 million deal) and their willingness to listen to ‘Pool supreme Rafa Benitez and star players Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher-

International Friendly
The most interesting friendly of the week was this encounter between the two glamour countries of world football
Brazil 0-2 Portugal (at Emirates Stadium, London)

Performance of the Week-
Morten Gamst Pedersen – Great performance against Sheffield United, topped off by a cracking free kick that flew into the top corner in injury time, after he had hit the opener as well!
Goal of the Week-
Unprecedented double as Morten Gamst gets this award as well- for the stunning, clutch free kick to take the spoils against Sheffield Utd

POI-
Aaron Lennon- the man England most certainly misses when he’s out- and the heir apparent to Beckham’s right side of midfield- he’s a bit quicker than Becks’s mind- ok…a lot quicker

Jake, Aletico needs to keep its grubby hands off Mikel Arteta. That would be the end of our friendship.

Ive watched a few German games this season and the quality of play seems to have gone down since the early 2000’s. Maybe it was just the game I saw… although they havnt really made an impact im Europe of late either. haha yeah it wasn’t a good time to mention Palace was it. But hey. One day we’ll find a new Wright & Bright to take us back to the top!

James says:
They do play FOOTBALL in germany yes. Not very well in my personal opinion though. And Crystal Palace isnt a place Ryan (well it was in the 19th century, but then it burned down)

Just having fun with you James. My team has Palace’s ex-best player, so I’m well familiar with them. Hell, any team that used to employ Mr. Incredible as its manager is OK by me.

Arsenal v Bolton tonight was a awesome game and if anybody caught it u got a treat Arsenal missed 2 penalties and the game had extra time- Gunners won 3-1 in the end and 1 Bolton player was sent off (should have been two) awesome game!

Damn those nefarious Americans. Fooling me with their acts. Im never going to believe another word you say Ryan. Oh and Andy Johnson is a bit of a hero. Shame he left though, the judas.

Being a Palace fan, and knowing some incredibly annoying Gunner fans, i have to say I am happy Arsenal won. Why? Because Bolton are the most god-awful boring team ever to grace the Premierships fertile fields. At least in the past Jay Jay used to provide some joy with his tricks. But no longer. Anyway….
