Breaking News: Trade! Indy and G-State
Li’l Dun gets moved…
We’re hearing this gets officially announced today at 2:00, but here’s the details:
Indiana trades Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Josh Powell to Golden State for Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, Ike Diogu and Keith McLeod.
Fire up the facial expressions in Indy! Love this for the Warriors…not sure for the Pacers. More later in The Links…

first!!! this trade sucks for the pacers..i guess the legend thinks he can clone himself on lil dun or murph….NOT A CHANCE!!!!

Chris O'Leary says:
The Indiana Pacers: punk-free since Jan. 17/07. T-Murph and JO in the frontcourt is nice. Lil’ Dun will fill in for Austin Croshere as the Dawson’s Creek-type on the roster. Play some Paula Cole, someone. I don’t wanna wait…for my life to be over….

i just looked up the stats on these guys, and i just don’t understand this from the pacers point of view. you guys are going to have to explain it to me.

Chris says:
I think Indy management is trying to get JO to melt down and punch somebody. Indy is trading three of their main rotation guys in harrington, jackson, and sarunas, for guys the nellie wasn’t even playing that much. I guess this trade rests on the potential of former slam rookie diary writer Diogu

the trade is horrible on both sides. no matter who gets stephen jackson, they are losers. indiana essentially just traded ron artest and stephen jackson for dunleavy and troy murphy.

I get that the Pacers are going small-for-big here and are banking on the fact that Murphy and Diogy will be beasts on the glass in the East. That said, that’s still a TON of talent to give up in that trade. Harrington is a perfect Nellie player (you saw how Jamison thrived in that system and Harrington’s more polished on the break). Jasikevicius will be a good fit backing up Davis and hitting spot-up threes. I don’t think Jackson will fit at all, but you have to make this trade from Golden State’s standpoint.
I didn’t see a midseason blowup trade coming from either one of these teams, but Nellie teams will do this.

Josh Powell for Keith McLeod — blockbuster! The rest of the guys are just cap fodder.

jermaine o’neal has to be on his way out. otherwise, that’s too many bigs on one roster.

Think ahead. This is the first step to blowing up the Pacers. Indy got a bunch of trade fodder to add to a J.O. package to get some picks this summer. Trust me, there’s more to this trade for Indy than is immediately apparent.

I don’t like this trade for the pacers at all. I know Isiah Thomas has gotten alot of hate for his gm skills but Larry Bird is just as bad and you don’t hear anything about it.

I like the trade for Ike. Hopefully he’ll get some burn in Indiana. The guy can play but Nelly didn’t like him and prefered to play four guards and Biedrins. Stephen Jackson in Oakland… Stay outta West Oakland firing guns and whatnot.

Well, at least the Pacers cleared some cap room. Oh wait, that just got worse too. I expected better from Donnie Walsh.

I’ve never seen a team actually try to get worse season by season, but I’ll be damned if Donnie an nem aint tryin…Bring in Al, pay him a shit load, then trade em…Nice…
Hopefully JO gets traded too. He doesn’t deserve this kinda “star treatment”…Now whether he’s an official franchise guy anyway is a totally different convo (he aint), so I guess its better late than never. This was like a NBA2k7 trade with the user trade override turned on…

Jeff Reguilon says:
I’m really trying to figure out how Mully got rid of those embarrassing contracts without Isaiah somehow getting involved. I’m also stumped as to how this trade makes sense for Indy, unless they’re really desperate to up their American White Guy count.
Jan.17 at 4:07 pm
Russ Bengtson says:
Even Isiah wouldn’t have made that trade.
Jan.17 at 4:10 pm
Jas says:
The trade is beneficial to both teams. The Pacers get a solid center in Murphy, a good backup in Diogu and Dun will be, at the very least, a decent backup to Danny Granger who should be thrust into the starter’s role. The Warriors get a quality 4 in Harrington. The only thing I don’t get is why they traded for Jackson since they already have so many wingplayers. Sarunas should fit in well, provided he gets playing time on a guard-stacked team.

Shiz says:
Russ: That’s a pretty powerful statement…

Joe says:
Ike and Nelie weren’t ever on the same page. The W’s also realized how moronic they were for giving Dumbleavy that money.
Athletic runners is what Nelie wants and last time I checked T-Murph was the exact opposite. Now if he can get rid of Foyle and get something workable, I’ll give him the genious title.
Jan.17 at 4:40 pm
Bryant Reeves says:
Richardson, Pietrus and Wooooooooooooo! on the same team? Someone is going to get shot. At least the Pacers didn’t take Foyle…
Jan.17 at 4:42 pm
Willie says:
Warriors get more athletic, stronger, and clear up cap room. Pacers get whiter, slower, and take on more money. But hey, they did get Diogu who is a beast down low. Now if the “shooting” guard can stay out of trouble, the Warriors actually have a shot at the playoffs.

Slobodan Chutzpah says:
Russ: oh yes, he would’ve. Don’t underestimate the good Dr. Reverend’s ineptitude… I like O’Leary’s Dawson’s Creek theory concerning Dunleavy. That really seems like the most logical explanation for the Pacers’ motives. Or it could be that they are looking to create a sort of Hoosier Dumb & Dumber with Murphy and Lil’ Dun. Why? I have no idea. Their real reason, though, might have been Diogu. He’s averaging 7.2 points on .530 shooting in 13.1 minutes, along with 3.7 rebounds. That’s pretty scary. Nelly’s motives, on the other hand, are clear. He loves big trades and hates both Murphy and Dunleavy.
Jan.17 at 5:50 pm
Mike says:
This may have been covered already, I’m too lazy to read all the posts.
This trade is the classic “addition by subtraction” move on the part of the Pacers. Getting rid of Stephen Jackson was the most important thing. Who knew that Whooo was crazier than Artest? This seems like the move to make if the Pacers truly want to play an up-tempo game. JO can play down low in the halfcourt with Murphy to space things out and Dunleavy Jr. to run around making awesome faces. The Warriors get good, experienced pieces. Too bad one of them is Whoo Jackson. At least he didn’t end up on the Knicks (knock on wood).

boston's finest says:
hey golden st was trying to move murphy for some time now? why i dont know because he was ballimg. i recall whenever he came to boston years ago, he and walker were going at it HARD. murphy scored then talked maaad shhh. walker scored, he’d do his lil wiggle. i think this was the year the C’s made it to the eastern finals. after that season, i had much respect for dude because he can ball up. and his stats were on point. i think indiana will be okay w/ him but dunleavy? he’s never showed up since he left duke/ why is he still in the L? that goes for adonal foyal as well. stephen “shootout” jackson, in oakTown w/ b diddy and jrich? doesn’t golden st. have enough swingmen by now?
Jan.17 at 5:54 pm
William says:
This trade is looking really bad for the Pacers.
They’re taking more salary commitments, less scoring, less talent, creating jam at 3-4 position (Jermaine, Troy, Granger, Ike Diogu, Dunleavy), subsequently blanks the 2-spot, leaving Mel Daniels as the only off guard, and they’ve been banishing him as if he’s shooting guns in the offseason.

Lang Whitaker says:
I believe you mean Marquis Daniels, since Mel Daniels played in the ABA in the ’60s and ’70s.

While I LOVE this drade for the Dubs, I am worried about our frontcourt depth. With Foyle injured, all we have backing up Biedrins and Al is… Patrick O’Byant???? Ummm, yeah. Hope he got TONS of experience and improved his game in that two-week stint in the D-League. It’s possible…
Jan.17 at 7:12 pm
Stuie says:
This was a trade just to get rid of Stephen Jackson. The team was loosing because Two of their main starters had mental issues. Thats also why they traded Ron Artest. Now they may not be getting the best players in return but at least the pacers have a chance to gel now. I think if the chemistry is there they should do better than when they had Jackson. Lets call this the post Jackson/Artest era. Too bad they can’t get rid of Jamal Tinsley. They would be great if they did. The Pacers should of traded Tinsley and Jackson right after they traded artest and we could of skipped a couple of bad years.
Jan.17 at 7:16 pm
Booyakasha says:
Well this trade might not be so bad. They get a good post player in Diogu. He might be undersized, but he can do more than rebound and tip in, which cant really be said about foster. Dunleavy is an quick 3/4 that can pass and might actually turn into a solid player if he gets more agressive on offense, and murphy to me is a softer version of nocioni, which isnt bad at all. Hopefully this trade will make pacers games less boring. Actually scratch that. with L’il Dun and his facial expressions pacers games WILL be less boring.

The only way this trade makes sense for the Pacers if they are ready to call it quits and see what they can get for J.O. Because if they thought he was pissed before, ” Oh man.”

JO once said he likes Brad Miller of his mid range jumper. Murphy is that type of PF that could open up the paint for him. I would give an upgrade on front court. Granger, Dunleavy and Tinsley as backcourt, not too bad. I don’t see it a much downgrade for the Pacers, if they’re healthy. Chemistry-wise, I strongly believe in Carlisle, he’s a very good matchup coach.

This trade sucks for both teams, everyone in this trade sucks, Al Harrington is terrible, Mike Dunleavy is worse, Stephen Jackson is inconsistent, and Troy Murphy is constantly injured and can’t play D. The Pacers win this trade because they got Ike Diogu.

i love this trade. probably coz i’m a warriors fan, but also, i think Whoo was made to play in oakland. the two white boys just don’t fit in the “hoodness” of oakland. i think it’s a personality trade. murphy and lil’ dun are def not great talents, but they are good players that can do better rick carlisle’s half court system. i believe it’s a better trade than most make this out to be.
Jan.18 at 5:29 pm
John says:
I think it’s a great trade for all involved. Al Harrington was unhappy and wants to run, he gets that.
Troy Murphy was unhappy and needs a halfcourt offence, he gets that.
Dunleavy couldn’t run with the Warriors and needed a slower tempo, he gets that.
Jackson doesn’t really fit, but he needed a change and he gets that.
Good trade all round.
Jan.18 at 5:51 pm
albie1kenobi says:
lost in all these is Sarunas Jasikevicius (i had to look that up). i believe he’ll fit much better in nellie’s quick pace offense, and he’s known for his range, which is what GSW sorely need. i’d say both clubs are on the right track, though pacers’ are gonna need a lot more work.

When I first saw this trade on espn.com I said, damn the Pacers just got Al Harrington who they signed to a long term deal and I thought he and Jermaine O’Neal played well together despite the critics. Harrington, Jackson, and Jasikevicius will probably be better suited playing under Don Nelson’s free lancing style. Dunleavy, Murphy, and Diogu should fit in with the Pacers half court style but I think they should trade Lil Dun to the Clippers for Corey Maggette staight up. It’s a decent time to be a Warriors fan and on paper they look pretty good; I wouldn’t be suprised if Jason Richardson gets dealt before the trade deadline.
