Jon, this is not the first time we’ve done regional covers. It’s not the 5th or 10th time, either. We do this a lot, just like a lot of magazines do, and until we can actually design individual covers for individual readers, we’ll make the regional picks that make the most sense. In the meantime, if you’ve got friends anywhere in the US, hit ‘em up, they can probably find one for you.

He along with Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins have the Bay Area buzzing with basketball fever, which as you guys know has been lacking for over a decade. Wow, too much to catch up on here, but I’ll try to cover it all…
-For starters, we’ve ever only sent one cover to all subscribers because we’ve only ever been able to send one cover to all subscribers. “We,” meaning the editorial staff that decides who actually gets the covers, have no ability to change that fact becuase it’s a financial issue decided by our publisher — it’s prohibtively expensive, I’m told, to do multiple sub copies. Sorry, that’s just how it is.
-Also, no matter how much many of you Canucks hate Vince, he’s undeniably more well known and liked over the whole scope of our readership than is Chris Bosh. CB4 is a great player and from my brief interactions with him seems like a good dude, but he’s plays in a market that’s off the radar to the majority of our readers, and he doens’t have much in the way of a marketable personality. VC, meanwhile, plays in the largest market in the league and is perennially one of the leading All-Star vote-getters. If you don’t like him, I’m sorry, and I understand, but from our perspective, how is it not obvious? So, no, it wasn’t an insult, and no, we didn’t mess up. You don’t have to like it, but it shouldn’t be that hard to understand.
-gilbert, you make no sense, but we just did a Gilbert cover that was pretty fresh, you lunatic.
-Boing, you DO make sense, as always, but I have no idea about those headbands. Because I/we have no involvement with sh*t like that, I assume they’re cheaply made and poorly distributed and you probably shouldn’t bother. Sorry
-I know the NOYZ was screwed up, BET. It wasn’t when we shipped it. Sometimes we suck, and sometimes the plant that prints our issues sucks. This one’s on them. (And for the record, if it sounds like I’m blaming everything on everyone else, I’m not… exactly. We as an edit staff made the decision to put Vince on all the sub covers, but only because our publishers/distributers tell us we have to make it. And while we screw up plenty on our own — like leaving Gasol off the top 10 list a month or two ago — NOYZ was correct when we shipped it to the printer. Honest)
-Lamar Odom is not now nor ever has been nor ever will be an MVP candidate. Wow.
-Last thing: Anthony, so you know, SLAM gave birth to XXL — if ever find an old copy of XXL from the first few issues, compare it with a SLAM masthead from the same time, and you’ll notice any of the names being the same. XXL is our people, their offices are literally 5 feet away from us, and by this point they’re like twice our size (more fans of bad hip-hop than good basketball, I guess). But we were first, so it is in fact not like we copied the past/future concept. We were doing multiple covers before they existed.

And about XXL and the previous staff… Thank you guys (whoever is left) for briefly making the most ‘real’ hip hop mag the USA has ever produced. Until it became awful, I found that mag instructive about how good hip hop transcended commercial/underground or rapping/r&b boundaries.
