NBA 2K7 is just real enough
Yesterday we saw a game that was trying to be too real, but now here’s one that seems to be getting it right.
Yesterday I whined about the over the top plotlines portion of NBA 07 featuring the Life video game. Now I’m here to tell you about a game that seems to be getting it right. NBA 2K7. Once again gametrailers has the video. Watch it.
Wow. Other than choppy or overcomplicated gameplay, my biggest beef with basketball video games over the years has been that they stopped giving guys signatur moves. Back in the day - and I’m talking Bulls vs. Lakers - every All-Star had a custom move. For example Jordan was the only player that could do the up and under on the baseline move and Karl Malone was the only guy that could put one hand behind his head when he dunked. Games started getting away from that, and if a guy’s dunk rating was 90 and up, then he could do whatever came with the game’s repetoire but nothing signature.
In this clip, you see Vince do an unmistakably Vince dunk, Shaq doing the stomp back upcourt, Rip adjusting his face mask, LeBron chewing on his nails, a Tony Parker floater, a Big Z hook shot, and there’s more than that.
Looking good 2K7. Looking real good.

2K has always had better Basketball games, and in the case of 2K5 a better football game too.

i really hope you guys start giving 2k7 more love on the links. i swear, most ppl just know about nba live and stick to it for the brand, though 2k is clearly the king. you guys gotta give out more love to the underdog. can’t wait till we start seeing flagrants/technicals in games (thinkin of sheed & ron ron).

I still refuse to buy a Playstation 2 or any modern game system for fear that it would absolutely take over my life.

the free throws aren’t fucked up at all. every player shoots the free throw the way they do in the game and you have to release where that player’s wrist would snap. it’s genius. shaq does his crazy lane-violation free throws, it’s just gonna be hard hittin em with grandma-shot rick barry or fall-away karl malone in hall of fame games. 2k is the greatest. i’m marking off the days on my calendar.

Yo, I never saw this article. It’s May 1, 2007, and I’m still playing 2K7! I got plenty of other games, but I’m just too fascinated by this game! 2K got it together. I can’t even play Live anymore, it’s like a cartoon.
