There were three covers for this issue. Magic Johnson, Damon Stoudamire, and Jerry Stackhouse. Damon and Jerry were promising young players but neither of them was Magic. He came back out of retirement as a bulky power forward, missing a goatee but still with that smile and his legendary handle intact. Other than getting suspended for bumping a ref and ending his playing days with a first round playoff exit, it wasn’t the worst return to action by one of the greatest we’ve seen. By refusing to let it rule his life, Magic continued to be an inspiration for people with HIV to never give up, even if some NBA players (men that mail) were nervous about him bleeding on them.
