Cooked Salmons

John Salmons was a Sixer, then a Raptor…and now he’s a free agent.

by Lang Whitaker

One day ago, we knew something was fishy with the trade between Philly and Toronto, which would’ve sent John Salmons to the Raptors in exchange for a second round pick and cash. Today we know why: After thinking about it for a while, Salmons decided Toronto wasn’t for him.

The other team that had been jocking for Salmons was Phoenix, but with Salmons looking to be good in the T-Dot, they used the money they’d set aside for Salmons for Marcus Banks. Adding to the incestuousness of the whole thing, former Phoenix guard Eddie House could end up replacing Salmons in Toronto.

What’s left for Salmons? The qualifying offer the Sixers had left on the table was rescinded, and he’s currently teamless and offerless. Although I expect that will change relatively soon.

I don’t know what John’s thinking, but he won’t find a much better fit than Toronto. The Raptors are going to play a fast-paced game with TJ Ford at the helm and his only competition at the 3 is Joey Graham. I think it’s a blessing in disguise for the Raptors, provided they don’t waste their money on Eddie House. Colangelo should put the spending spree on hold till next season when better free agents become available.

Bad idea for slamons. Hey Lang remember when ESPN and everyone said they didn’t like the Marvin Williams pick at #2 and that ATL messed up? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2526765 Looks like they came around a little bit…..after he was named MVP of the summer league. Worldwide Follower indeed…

Yeah, well said, Colin. I didn’t even hear anything about how Chris Paul (whom many thought the Hawks should have drafted) did at the Summer League. Might have had something to do with the fact that he was practicing with the US National Team. But if the #2 draft pick from last years draft can put up numbers against bench warmers and guys who weren’t even drafted, well that proves he’s a superstar.

Bet Salmons is feeling a bit “gutted” after missing out on the T-dot spot and Jones takes his money. Indiana’s guard ranks are slipping a bit with Johnson and Jones both going now…Guess they’re putting a lot of stock in Marquis.
