Shareef Abdur-Rahim Talks ’96 SLAM Cover Shoot (AUDIO)

Back in ’96, SLAM was able to get rookies Ray Allen, Kerry Kittles, Stephon Marbury, Marcus Camby, Steve Nash, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O’Neal, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Kerry Kittles, Kobe Bryant and more of the legendary draft class together for one of our most famous covers ever. With Kobe hanging up his Nikes for good, there are no members from arguably the greatest draft class in history left in the NBA. Collectively the crew left a mark on the game that few other classes have been able to touch.

Earlier this week, Abdur-Rahim joined the “Brown and Scoop” podcast and was asked about being a member of the class and if he had any memories of the SLAM 15 photoshoot.

“[The class has] become legendary due to the body of work of the guys from that draft,” said the 12-year vet. “For it to still be relevant 20 years later is awesome. [The SLAM shoot] was a casual thing. It was around draft time and we were all doing photoshoots and I don’t think any of us thought that we’d be taking a picture that would carry on the way it has. Every person in that photo has, in one way or another at some point, been productive and displayed their skills at a very high level.”

‘Reef also told old Kobe Bryant stories, playing in Vancouver and his Future Foundation. Peep it above.
